Here's the news re our latest situation........

K TERROR THREAT 'ON SCALE OF SEPT 11'

LABOUR Party chairman John Reid says the nature of the terrorist threat to London is on the scale of the September 11 attacks.

Asked if the deployment of troops at Heathrow was an over-the-top reaction, Dr Reid replied: "This is not a game. This is about a threat of the nature that massacred thousands of people in New York.

"I am not even going to take seriously those people who suggest this is part of some sort of game."

Dr Reid later played down the terror threat, claiming he had been misinterpreted.

A heavy military presence is still in place at Heathrow as London remains on a heightened level of security alert amid fears of a possible terrorist attack.

Scotland Yard has refused to reveal the substance of the threat.

Terror experts say it points to a possible missile attack on a plane similar to the one carried out by al-Qaida terrorists in Kenya last year.

I refuse to believe in Tony's Flying Circus. Labour is, now more than ever, looking dis-easedly paranoid.

Instead, I am expecting the miracle of PEACE.

Hi Miracle
We are all praying for peace
We can't ignore the serious possibility of attacks though - already there have been numerous groups of terrorists arrested here in the UK.

scary stuff, no joke about it. I am very afraid of a possible war and a possible attack back. here in USA , on the TV, they already awarned us to have food supply for at least 3 days and some other sh***, ready for a war. How truly disgusting is all this but we are just one of the "people"..no one listen to us
crossing my fingers for us on the 16th and afterwards
hugs from B.

Yeah, it was "recommended" that we have a three day food and water supply on hand, as well as plastic and duct tape to cover doors, windows, and vents (in the case of a bio or chem attack, I guess).
A couple interesting links: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A62062-2003Feb12.html
And copy and paste the following into your URL window:
javascript:void(window.open('http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/health/specials/preparedness/index.html','Prepare','toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scr ollbars=no,resizable=no,copyhistory=no,width=640,height=472,left=0,top=0,screenX=0,screenY=0'))
I'm not sure if it's funny, sad, or scary.

And I live in Northern Virginia (the area surrounding DC to the south); DC's "no fly" airspace that was implemented after Sept 11th has been doubled in response to the "Orange Warning". I hear helicopters quite a bit, and I'm pretty far out now. I can't help but wonder what it's like at my old place (the 12th floor of a highrise in Alexandria - in spitting distance of the Pentagon; if it weren't for another highrise, it would've been visible from my window). And my mom lives by the major Marine base near DC (Quantico), and she says that the jet jockeys and artillery men are having a field day.

Well, I'll be up in NYC this Saturday.
I hope ya'll Brits (esp you Londoners) are OK.

I think people should stop crossing bridges before we get to them. Please do not let fear and scary news items get to you. If you worry about terrorist attacks etc then the terrorists are winning! Inner peace is the most important peace as people around you pick up on your vibes..think of the ripple effect and imagine your inner peace and light is spreading rappidly around the world. And please, please dont be afraid!! Your thoughts should be on peace, not war!!!

I understand your point, RRR, but I don't think that most people are as paranoid as the media makes us out to be - just concerned.
That being said, I can't really blame those who are, though. It's kinda hard to stay upbeat when you see your own military deployed in your country and constantly hear choppers, jets, and explosions.

I understand your thoughts Cat , but I am afraid that the more paranoid Blair-Bush duo gets, the less trust I have in them.

I hate myself now for having voted Labour.

At first, Blair had no public support whatsoever to attack Iraq. It appears to me that they went on inventing arguments until the public became "convinced" (as they are) of the "necessity" to attack. Spreading panic is just a mean of persuading public of the righteousness of bombing Iraq.

I am afraid I am now absolutely confident that Mr Tony Blair and Mr George Bush are the greatest threat this planet has ever had to face.

RubyRedRam, I totally agree with you.

Love and Light to all.

I am still expecting the big miracle of Mr George Double-You changing his mind.

Hi Miracle
Are you now living in the UK? As the screen says Croatia.

When you say....
"At first, Blair had no public support whatsoever to attack Iraq. It appears to me that they went on inventing arguments until the public became "convinced" (as they are) of the "necessity" to attack. Spreading panic is just a mean of persuading public of the righteousness of bombing Iraq."

I can see where you're coming from and agree with what you say...
Except for one thing....
I don't think the public are "convinced" of the necessity to attack.
I live in central London and that certainly isn't the overall feeling here. Of course everyone wants to see an end to all of this but I don't think they want to go to war.

Hi Sue...

Yes, I'm a bit of a butterfly... I work in the UK, Finland, Italy and England (travel industry) - but I have recently decided to settle in Croatia. I am a British national. (I'd say English, but wouldn't want to offend the Scotts and the Welsh - there's enough confusion around!)

I, like yourself, have a feeling there is no support in the UK for an attack on Iraq. Partly, this anti-war sentiment is due to total lack of evidence that Iraq has WMD - the UN inspection even fails to prove Iraq has ever planned to produce weapons for mass destruction - let alone possess it! However, Bush and Blair are convinced an attack is needed. But not the public. Yet.

I believe Bush and Blair are wanting to go to war at any cost, using whatever "arguments" the public can be convinced to believe.

Given the lack of arguments, creating threat paranoia is next, for which (YET AGAIN) there is very little evidence or justification.

So I do hope, Cat, that in spite of the army circus everywhere the public remains convinced THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR WAR.

And "au contraire" to the above - arguments against the war are plentiful.

Heightened alert everywhere, it seems. I'm not stressing about it. I will be sensible and later today go get lots of bottled water and some canned food things.. but really I should have that stuff here in Los Angeles in case of an earthquake.

But even if there were an attack I won't spend my time before it worrying myself silly. It's hard not to worry.. but I'll force myself to think of other things and hope for peace.

I think right now I'm a little more worried about Korea sending a nuke to Los Angeles. I wanna move to New Orleans.

when you came into my sight i (had to) put on my shades cause I was blinded so much by the light that you spread and i´m sure it will grow forever and scare all the zombies away

How on earth can someone have a live grenade in their luggage?????????
Here's the lastest news.....

GATWICK TERMINAL RE-OPENS AFTER TERROR ALERT

GATWICK'S North Terminal has re-opened after a terror alert.

On hearing the announcement hundreds of people rushed to the shuttle train platform in the hope of being the first to get news of their flights.

A man is still being questioned by anti-terrorist police after a live grenade was found in a passenger's luggage at Gatwick airport.

The 37-year-old Venezuelan arrived on British Airways flight 2048 from Bogota in Columbia.

He was held by Sussex Police and was being taken to a central London police station to be quizzed by detectives from Scotland Yard's Anti-Terrorist Branch.

Police said the flight stopped at Caracas in Venezuela and BA said it also stopped in Barbados. It was not clear where the man boarded the flight.

The grenade was found as he went through Customs so explosives officers were called in and it was found to be live. It was not detonated.

Part of the airport's North Terminal was evacuated during the alert and outbound flights were suspended.

The grenade was believed to have been in the man's hold luggage, not his hand luggage, although that has yet to be officially confirmed.

A BA spokesman said an investigation is underway as to how his baggage had got on to the plane undetected.

Linda wisely said... If you mind it, it will matter.

And so it does.

Neverfailingly.
