Does mummification truly make one Immortal? Out of all the Knowflakes who have chosen to remain mortals for the time being, who would want to be mummified?IP: Logged |

Hi Spiritua Hmmm, I'm not too sure if mummification is the way to become immortal. I'm guessing that is one of the reasons why it was done... to try and achieve that state. Personally, I like to believe that ideally one can keep regenerating the body and cellular structure so as to make eventual mummification unnecessary... What do you think? IP: Logged |

I believe immortality comes from what one leaves behind in the minds of the living with things such as deeds (good, bad, heroic, controversial, etc.) (Lincoln, Napoleon., Caesar, etc.), music (Mozart, Beethoven, et. al.), literature (Twain, Poe, Byron), among other things, that makes one immortal. You're not referring, however, to the Soul, correct?Mummification? --nope, that's just a dried-up corpse stuffed with herbs. Personally, I'd rather not be remembered looking like that…ugh.

I've been reading a lot about ancient Egypt lately. I think ancient Egyptian beliefs and practices are fascinating. I often wonder what it would be like to be mummified, which is quite interesting since I wouldn't be alive to experience it, buuuttt....anyway, I thought this would be a good place to discuss it because Linda Goodman and many of the Knowflakes also believe in immortality. I believe mummification is as valid as any other theory of immortality. I don't know for sure whether it works, which is why I'm not ready to say "yes" or "no" yet. IP: Logged |

Hi Spiritua What were the beliefs re mummification? I haven't read about it so I don't know the thoughts/beliefs behind it.While reading this string I started to think about people who now are having their bodies frozen. Their reasons for doing that are that they hope to be "brought back to life" when a cure for whatever ailed them is found. So in a way they also are looking for some kind of immortality...well maybe immortality is not the correct word but hopefully you know what I mean. Hmmm do you think that is now the modern day version of mummification? Sue IP: Logged |

Gee, is there the chance that our soul would come back in a new body? Then, what would become of the frozen body? I assume that is why our dead bodies are naturally supposed to decompose, because we are not suppose to reinhabit them once the soul has departed once and for all.Where's my Kardec book...? No thanks, if/when I become a corpse I want to be used as fertilizer in my gardens... Then I can return as a rose or at least a turnip. The soul is already immortal, so I never understood why a specific body would be used for that immortality as we`ve had so many before that one. Or do they immortalize each one in successive lives. Maybe I`d better read up on it as now I`ve confused mys-elf. juniperb IP: Logged |

Juniperb Somehow I just can't see you as a turnip I agree with you re the body. I like to think of it as the overcoat we wear in this (or any other) lifetime. You can always get a new coat - it's what's inside that matters Sue IP: Logged |

Hi ! Peaceful here! Embalming is nasty stuff regardless and not too sound too tree-huggy but intime those chemicals leach out into Water supplies. NASTY STUFF Also if you have municipal water the blood they pump out goes into the system... Joda IP: Logged |

Ya Cat, I`m not fond of turnips , but green sprouts on my head and a round belly with long rooty legs surpasses an embalmed body stuffed in a metal casket and put in a concreted vault. I much prefer they use the plot of land as nature intended; growing food for the physical or flowers for the soul. juniperb IP: Logged |
