Hi purplezen,

Can I please lead you into Pilgrim's Progress? Just pop on over, these discussions will be over there. Aselzion is an expert on Kabala and Astrology.

Your expertise on Wicca will be very much needed in that forum.

starlover, I am by no means an expert, just a curious beginner who has read a lot. But I will head over to that forum.

Guess what, it's here.

Thanks Randall for moving the string!

Purplezen, don't be silly, you're more of an expert then me and I would really love if you could share some of your knowledge.

For one thing, why did you get into wicca in the first place?

To answer your question...I seem to have lost my faith in god (like linda is several parts of gooberz), and I know there must be something else out there. I have always been intriqued by nature, so why not let it help

What kind of nature magick do you prefer?

Some are called Green witches, Kitchen witches, Vodoo witches, Pagan witches, Druidic witches, and Christian witches.

Linda Goodman she was a Christian witch. I would prefer to call it Christo Wicca. But the sad thing about wicca is that it wants to be known as a religion but it should be known as a path of spirituality.

The fascination about wicca is that they want to take matter in their own hands. They're nature and animal lovers, which will help the Earth drastically. If wicca continues to grow then it will help repair the Earth to it's original state. Magick is important to them but only for the purposes of love and wisdom.

I love talking about wicca becuase it reminds of England and Ireland. It makes me think of the olden days with knights and chivalry, fairies and sorcerers.

Funny I said olden, which almost sounds like Odin.

I don't consider myself a witch, but I'd say if I did, I would be a green one

My brushes with wicca have been few. I know wiccans but have only been to one very small women's circle, and years ago, to a quasi-wiccan circle who called themselves MoonWomen. I respect the individuals, the practice and religion for what I know of it, but I don't understand a wiccan's sense of magic. At this small circle I attended last month (I went by myself, for the first time), before Samhain, we cast a circle, and at one point I did feel energy from everybody's outstretched hands, but we cast no spells and the invocations were casual. I felt like I had had a very nice, outdoor sharing with some women who were on a spiritual path, so it was very nice, but it also felt like a girly/Reiki experience too -- there was a lot of 'sharing' and my main energetic reference these days is Reiki, so I recognized the energy as such.

Has anyone else besides WychofAvalon (<-- she's a practicing wiccan, purplezen!) taken part in any group rituals?

Did I ever tell you my fear? One of my dumbest and irrational fears is about getting possesed. It's the main reason why I don't particapate in anything astral or medium related. I like talking about it, but when it comes down to it, I'm terrified of ghosts and poltergiest. Sometimes I can get really scared and not be able to sleep at night because of my imagination. I watched The Exorcist once and I couldn't get it out of my head for weeks. I don't know what it was that embedded this in my mind but I truly wish it would go away. It definitly interupts my desires of pursuing further down the path, but I guess everything has a good reason, and hopefully it will be conquered in many later years. Because of this fear, even with all my knowledge, I also have trouble performing rituals or magick spells which definitely removed me from the path of wicca. But it was my knowledge in Astrology that led me he here to LindaLand.

P.S. I blame it on my Gemini Moon.

That Gemini Moon... Ah, Starlover, you remind me... I've encountered them before, and while brilliant, there was a tendency to freeze concerning the unexplained. But you're right, as time goes by it shouldn't hold you back. Probably a GemMoon needs certain requirements in order to feel "safe" or in control of something in such a situation, which really, is perfectly fair.

My first mediumship teacher, an excellent and talented medium, was an Aries, and he told us that even in trance he never allowed a spirit to step in and fully take over his body to allow a message to come through. He always held onto part of his identity, and conciousness, so he was always "there" too while it was going on, unlike some people who totally step aside for a spirit, and come out of trance asking what happened while they were "gone". Mind you he attributed his mediumship style to being an Aries, as we are bossy, curious, controlling, blahblahblah. I did know a Pisces student there who had the opposite problem -- gave too much of herself too quickly and then had trouble coming back -- she had great talent but no boundaries, but she was fine because the teacher knew exactly what to do.

But that's the purpose of sharing knowledge, info, and not studying metaphysics completely in isolation. Contacts with others are vital at some points. Although in some way it will always be a solitary path, we can't do it as well unless we encounter others who've also travelled the same way. We all need guides in the metaphysical wilderness.

As for wicca and magic, I have a wiccan pal I'm seeing tomorrow afternoon -- so if anybody can post specific questions today/tonight, I'll ask her. I'll ask her for tips for purplezen re: improving one's life, for example.

Being Gemini Sun, I know what you mean re being possessed. I read The Exorcist (like an idiot before going to sleep), then saw the film...and the movie in particular scared the daylights out of me! I was so frightened that for a while I had to sleep with a light on. Also having a Pisces Ascendant, I just absorbed it all too much, thus combined with my Sun...you get the picture. Am I mistaken, or do you have a Pisces Sun?

Anyway and however...I learned over time that as I became stronger in my own identity, these fears subsided considerably. I think (just my belief) that if our Spirit is strong within us, there is no room for possession.

I went through virtually the same thing you described, and it did take me years of exploration and learning to reach this conclusion. I agree with you about everything having a good reason; trust that and take your time, knowing that as you are ready you will progress on your path. Also, I agree with Lunargirl - - your path is your own to travel at your pace - - yet it is beneficial to share with others of like mind. Lindaland is a very good place for that. Take care.

Gemini, has always gotten me into trouble. Three or four years ago I remember getting into wicca but I felt that I wasn't ready, or I just couldn't commit to the rituals required. You see what my moon does to me? I got the jitter bugs and started feeling that entities would come knocking on my door.

I will talk for hours about these kind of subjects, but the unexplained is the unexplained, and I would rather not mess with it. I've told myself, time and time again, to get over it but it's hard convincing two fishes and two twins. I also can't do any trance like meditation because I fear leaving my body. This includes astral traveling. I guess it will be a matter of time. But do you have any tips?

Oh yeah, I have a Pisces Sun sign.

I hear ya, re 2 fishes and 2 twins, lol. Maybe in my case, my Scorp Moon has been the strengthening factor that's helped me overcome my fears...?

Most importantly, if you just don't feel comfortable exploring these things, it may be best to refrain for the time being. You can have faith that your Piscean Sun, with its beautiful sensitivity will guide you.

About astral travel: I was 15 the first time it happened to me, and I wasn't trying. Yes, it was pretty unnerving until I better understood what was going on and learned how to control it. Once I did though, it was amazing! Same thing with my exposure to "entities"; again, I wasn't trying...and again, I was scared - - until I read and learned and discussed it with others who had similar experiences. Now, especially when I sense the "entity" is a loved one who has passed, I am very comforted.

If you care to talk about any of this further, feel free to get my e-mail address from Randall. Whether or not you do, the best tip I can give you is to trust your instincts and go with them. Believe me when I tell you...most mistakes I've made were because I ignored my gut feeling about something and instead "over-rationalized" it, Gemini style. Take care.

BTW...just curious...what's your Rising Sign?

Cancer is my rising sign, I get very nervous about some things.

I don't appreciate my rising sign, my face tends to always show how I feel. So I get a lot of people saying, "Oh, why do you look so sad?" That boils me, I want to be a strong person not be mushy mushy. Arggh!

Luckily, I have Pluto trining all of those mushy signs.

I asked my wiccan friend about whether/how wicca can be used for self-improvement. Her first response: "Good question!"

Her more considered response was that being careful in one's intent and choice of 'improvements' to ask for, plus knowing how to properly ask for them in circle, went a long way toward improving one's life. She says wicca is a good way to ask the Universe for what one wants, and provides a way to put it out there.

I see magick as very simple. You need a lot of faith and a lot of desire. Those are the hardest parts. Everything else such as candles and pentacles are there to increase mood. As above so below is basically telling us to watch the stars for guidance. Astrology is the best way to know when to ask the Universe for more improvement in your life. Saying a prayer at the right astrological moment is another good way to make you're dreams come true. But you also have to surrender to higher forces (spirit) because we don't always know what's good for us (ego). I'm more toward protection spells. But I know it's not good to always be cautious so I have issues myself.
