Lilith to me is still a very questionable character. Linda Goodman believed Adam and Eve were actually Satan and Nephtys. They are Twin Flames that pretty much helped to screw up evolution.

But don't worry, forgive them!

Lilith wasn't as bad as she has been made out to be lately.

According to some traditions, she was the first wife of Adam. She evolved on her own and was not made from any part of Adam. She was the first person genetically advanced enough to "recieve the Holy Ghost" or, in other words, to have a human consciousness. Her understanding of "The Ineffible" made her reject the mythology of local religion of the time and come to a new understanding about the nature of God. Those around her (both human and God) decided she knew too much and declared her anathema. Still, she went on her way and was not destroyed. A number of stories were told of her after. Some say that Lilith, not Eve, was the mother of humanity. As an Archaeologist, I can say scientifically that all Mitrochondrial DNA now in the human genome came from one woman who lived in Africa hundreds of thousands of years ago. That doesn't mean she was the only one contributing, but hers is all that has survived.

Yet Isis is also considered the real mother of the earth. Unless they are the same person?

Well, here are some musings though I'm not saying that I'm 100% on them ... just some flutter-by thoughts.

Assuming Nephthys is Eve then that would make Set, Adam. Lillith couldn't be Isis, of course, because Isis would be our Earth's mother. If I recall correctly, Linda hinted at the fact that "Adam & Eve" also occurred on another planet. Anyhoo, if that's the case, Isis and Osiris have our world under their care through all their incarnations. Seeing as how Isis' soul broke in two when Osiris was cut into 14 pieces, and is thus destined to come back as 2 women every time he does ... then what if Lillith and Eve are both pieces of Nephthys? Isis and Nephthys are supposed to be sisters, just as Osiris and Set are supposed to be brothers. Perhaps, their burdens are bound together, thus binding our worlds (both couples') together as well. I think it is also noteworthy that for a lot of our history, the Eve myth held sway and now a lot of "feminists" are leaning more towards Lillith mythology. Perhaps the answer would be in the proper blending of both the paradoxicl personalities. Supposing the macrocosm mirrors the microcosm and vice versa, then when each woman balances those aspects within herself perhaps Nephthys' soul will also be reconciled, and also help to reconcile her with Set. Then perhaps this would lead to Set's own reconciliation and his atonement for his deeds. Maybe their newfound peace, love, and light would then help Isis and Osiris in their plight and ours. After all, what are the King's men without the Queens' women?
Too far fetched?
Just some thoughts anyway

I've always thought of the Lilith story as Jewish myth used to illustrate how they felt women should not be, ie; strong-willed, enjoying sex (the main dealio with her I thought is that she wanted to be on top and Adam's manly ego didn't particularly care for that so he asked god for a new wife - and voila! Eve).

I've also read that Lilith has also been associated w/ mythical succubi -

This was taken from a Gilgamesh Prologue found:
"...a dragon had built its nest at the foot of the tree
the Zu-bird was raising its young in the crown,
and the demon Lilith had built her house in the middle...
Then the Zu-bird flew into the mountains
with its young,
while Lilith, petrified with fear,
tore down her house and fled into the wilderness"

And the Jews got many fundamental pieces of Judaism from their time in Babylon/Sumeria, namely the concept of Satan (from what I've read before that they had no concept of Satan seperate from god - when bad things happened, God was smiting people, or it was the people that were evil, not an evil diety). If that is true, than it would make sense that the concept of Lilith too came from that.

I agree with you Eleonore, I've asked some woman which one do you feel you're more like Lilith or Eve and their answer was always that they have both of these women in them.

But if Adam asked God for another woman how does that work. The first Lilith apparantly came as his twin they were connected by their backs. So Lilith was his equal. And Eve was taken from his rib which to me indicates that God basically pulled out Adams heart to create Eve and he's been angry and trying to get it back ever since.

I wonder who Adam's true love really is? If God created them seperately how could they be the same person? But it does seem like they are. One is immortal and one is not. Lilith mated with Satan so maybe this indicates how Eve can become a Godess like Lilith have her true power with the light and dark side. Their 2 halves joined together. Maybe that's the secret to immortality.

And if Isis' soul broke in two, I can understand and relate to this as a woman. But how does Osiris' being cut into 14 pieces relate to a man. How can I see this in a man today.

. Seeing as how Isis' soul broke in two when Osiris was cut into 14 pieces, and is thus destined to come back as 2 women every time he does ...

every time he does meaning every time he comes to earth she will come back as two women? So a man's true love will come as two women. That would make sense.

The story has obviously been tampered with. Adam is Satan and he has had various incarnations. For instance during the Byzantine Empire he was said by some to be the incarnation of Emperor Justinian while Empress Theodora was the incarnation of Nepthys. These two rulers together were responsible for removing so many great truths from the scriptures that we know today. Empress Theodora has always fascinated me.

StarLover...the story has most definitely been tampered with. If you read the ancient texts from which the Bible and some other religious documents have been taken, you will barely recognize some of them. Fortunately, we do know who changed these texts, when they were changed, and why they were changed. Unfortunately, many of the originals were lost. Those who decided to make changes usually burned every copy of the original they could find and killed anyone who supported the things written in the originals. Finds like the Pistis Sophia, the Nag Hammadi Documents, the Dead Sea Scrolls, some Essenic works, etc. have returned copies of many of these originals to us in fairly recent years. There are still problems, however. Many religious based groups refuse to allow Archaeologists to examine parts of some documents which go against their current doctrine. A really good example of that is the Dead Sea Scrolls. We have only seen a fraction of them. Also, there is lots of stuff in the Vatican that we are not allowed to see. The worst part is that so many texts were burned...some quite recently. When the Pistis Sophia was discovered in an old monastery in the desert, the people there were regularly using similar ancient documents as fire starter.

"Seeing as how Isis' soul broke in two when Osiris was cut into 14 pieces, and is thus destined to come back as 2 women every time he does ... "
I was referring to the old legend about Isis being reborn as both Osiris' mother and lover. One example frequently cited concerning this legend would be Mary the Mother and Mary Magdalene in regards to Jesus, although I don't mean to open up a can of Christian worms with this.

The stories have all under gone vast changes.
I think the movement towards a more empowered feminine figure such as Lillith (sans the lies and alterations) is a cultural backlash at the suppression of womankind's true powers and purposes, etc. Hopefully this will balance out. It really is remarkable in light of the same similarities which have faced women for so long (on the flipside with Isis) between being a man's mother (symbolically, for most of course) and his lover.

I don't necessarily think that the same rules apply to all women as do to Isis and probably Nephthys. If I recall correctly, after Osiris was cut up into 14 pieces, the legend states that all our souls (both men and women) were divided likewise. Supposedly, our soul pieces can incarnate in different people at the same time ... though you don't necessarily have 13 missing soul pieces all at the same time, of course. Everyone is different, and chooses/needs different things. I believe this also relates to the Saturn Seven Cycle, because it is thought that at those times your scattered soul pieces can choose to reunite, or you can choose to send more out, etc, among many other things. But I digress entirely ...

I certainly think that the Lillith myth has undergone various "trimmings" over the years. I remember reading somewhere, perhaps in a World Religions/Philosophy class, that some time in Egypt long ago (I'm absolutely awful with dates), women were revered and respected above men for their ability to conceive and bear children ... this had apparantly been the custom for a very long time. Supposedly, once the men finally figured out that they had something to do with it, then all that power and respect was revoked. However, I do think that they misinterpreted their "participation" shall we say(?) in light of the Sophia legend, etc. Anyhow, aside from that, I think that making Lillith a demon and "God" giving Adam a new and "less equal wife", etc, is just another example of how men in power strove to strip women of their rights and particularly, their powerful sexual attributes. I wonder why many supposedly religious/spiritual men were/are so threatened by powerful women. On a side note, LOL, This may be inappropriate here, but I think it's also noteworthy that many men today no longer regard the "subserviant" sexual position (being on the bottom) as a threat anymore ... in fact, most welcome the power and freedom of sexually expressive women. I think that's a great step towards fullfilment for women (the acceptance not necessarily the position), though we must always strive for balance, of course.
Hope that made sense and didn't offend anyone.

Eleanor...you have some very good insights.

StarLover and Tink...Last I heard, the Dead Sea Scrolls were being kept by a group in Israel. According to archaeology, ancient texts and teachings were changed or destroyed for one reason...to control the populace in general. Think about the days before TV, radio, or motorized transportation and consider how a government would try to spread their power and propaganda. It was very difficult to control people who were widespread and illiterate. The most efficient way was to get people to WANT to do what the government said. There was absolutely no seperation between government and religion. So by making people think that they would be tortured for all eternity unless they followed certain laws, they were able to control much larger areas and numbers of people than they could have any other way. You don't need nearly as many law enforcement officials if people think everything they do or even think will be held against them by an all seeing, angry diety. Also, about 10,000 years ago, perhaps the most influential change of all time happened to humanity...agriculture. Prior to agriculture, women and men enjoyed roughly the same status in most cultures. The reason for this was simple...they were equally important in everyday life. Although the role of men in childbirth was not understood, there were reasons that men were just as important as women. When a group is living a hunter-gatherer lifestyle, the norm is for men to do more of the hunting and women to do more of the gathering. That is becuase it is not reasonable for mothers with young children to be involved in such a dangerous occupation and only women can give birth. Agriculture started out with domesticating animals and then came domesticating crops. Women could then provide all the meat and vegetable products needed for survival. Goddess cults erupted everywhere. Men became lesser citizens, becuase they were not needed as much as before. But agriculture also created another change. People no longer traveled on seasonal hunting and gathering rounds. They became more stationary. Plus the concept of wealth developed. People who grew or raised more than they needed could preserve and keep it for purposes of trade, etc. This gave men the new niche they needed to become equal again. Some men started raiding the stores of female groups, taking not only the goods, but also the women and children as slaves. Then each farming group desperately needed men to protect them from outside invaders. Men's societal value went from hunters to warriors. This changed everything. Over the centuries, women were slowly and thouroughly disenfranchised. Agriculture made it possible for cities and then countries to develop. So that brings us back to the beginning of this post. These large governing groups had to control widespread populations and they turned to religion as their method. They hadn't forgotten their lesson about keeping women under control lest they usurp the power of men and they sure as heck didn't want people to think they could find God within themselves or through their own efforts. They wanted people to think they had only one chance to do God's will (as approved by the government/religious union) and if they failed, they would be whipped by demons for all eternity.

That is a greatly compressed version, but basically the story as I know it.

Thanks for the info, FishKitten. Alot of it sounds familiar but I can't get over the agriculture connection, although it does make perfect sense ... do you realize that a nation's true wealth is determined by it's agriculture? What a cycle!

As to the original post about Adam, sheesh, does he have a lot coming back to him!

Forgiveness is a virtue
hard to understand,
seldom found in woman
and never found in man.

lol Perhaps its not entirely true, but it has at least an ounce of truth to it.

Hi Starlover...I learned that through a combination of University classes and personal reading. I first heard of the agricultural connection in a class called Old World Archaeology. The religious part was included somewhat, due to the connection to the many temples that were discovered and the artifacts that suggested goddess figures and bull figures. Bull worship was huge. As you can probably guess, it also was tied to agriculture. The woman and the bull (heard animals) replaced the woman and the man. Thus the references in some texts that bull worship should be dealt with quite harshly. That part hasn't actually been changed as much in texts. Men have not been very happy about the bull worship from the first.

The subject of what methods were used to subjugate people throughout time was addressed more in classes like Archaeological Theory and Prehistory of Religion.

Of course, once the subject came up in class, I went on to read a great deal about it on my own. Plus I did reserch papers for all the classes. Writing and reading are also connected to agriculture, but that is another story. Are you interested in those kinds of things? I was just so happy to be looking at all the evidence that humans and nature have left behind.
