I did a self-help quiz once. The idea was that you should fill in all the circumstances of your life up to the present. That would remain a constant and then you should return to the quiz at intervals to fill in how certain things had changed for the better. At first everything went as planned. I recorded things that changed for the better in present time. Then I began to want to change what I had written about the "changeless" past. What a surprise!------------------ It's never too late to have a happy childhood. IP: Logged |

It's a wonderful isn't it? We call it recapitulation. By doing this and taking it very seriously it enables us to see past events more clearly without all the emotional delusion. It also gives us a moment's pause where we can accept our behaviour without judgement. We acknowledge it, and then release it's hold before it fully entraps us forever. I believe past traumatic events hold us until we decide to release them. We hold on to them like camels store water in their humps. The idea of recapitulation is the sincere examination of people and past events with a sense of detachment. It's sounds too good to be true I know, somehow though it does work. It changes unwanted feelings and desires in us and makes us feel less fragmented and more whole. We give bits of ourselves away far too easily without thinking. Then we are left hurt and angry. We are always less hurt and less angry when we are properly informed. After all we all have a choice about how we react to past events. I prefer not to hold on to excess baggage. It's way to heavy a weight to carry around and it stops you enjoying the now. It's never too late to have a happy childhood! Gia IP: Logged |

I've just been speaking to my sister on the phone from London. She phones me most days whilst having her lunch break and sometimes whilst she's sitting on the train bored out her mind on the journey home from work.Anyway, we started to reminice about various childhood events. She seems to think it quite obsurd for me to believe I had the perfect childhood. Now I didn't say easy, I said perfect. There is a big difference. We lost our mother when I was 9 years old. So please understand life was not always a bunch of roses. We were four girls left basically on our own to figure things out. We did. I maintain it was a happy childhood. Nope I'm not in denial. Let me try and explain. There is no doubt that parents have incredible power to influence the inner life of a child. The loss of one and the absence of another for very long periods made us all self sufficient. It made us all what we are today and importantly who we are today. I have three sisters. We are all so different. We look different, have different personalities, made different choices, have very different lives. We all endured, driving on different roads regardless of the same history. I think every family has a history, every person in it has a tranfiguration and eventually a personal destiny. I truly believe with all my heart that we all need to reclaim what was lost to us in imperfection and learn to love it for what it was, imperfect. We have the power to sift the creative from the destructive and to be happy if we choose. It's sad to see people cut themselves off from their own spotaneity. When we carry great weights of longing for what never was, something odd happens. It's really quite peculiar and when you do the recapitulation you see so clearly. It becomes a cycle of repetition. I'm reminded of the story about the straw that broke the camels back. How could that be possible? How on earth could a straw break a camels back? Well, I learned to see most clearly, that when you carry an extreme weight of pain and hurt around with you, it is difficult to hold your ground. You become totally drained and exhausted, anxious and empty. Until even a slight gust of wind can knock you down dead! Sorry to be so blunt. I'm no guru in waiting that flashes about fancy words. I'm your typical Sag! Just thought I'd tell you all what I told my sis. on the phone today. I had the happiest childhood. Yes, it's never too late! Gia

It is about buying yourself a journal and writing down everything that ever happened to from your earliest memories on. Including relationships, events, hurts, joys, friendships, arguments, everything. Be ruthless, even if it's a memory like meeting someone rude on the train in 1962 or something. If you remember it is beacause you have associated with it somehow. If it happened write it all down. You may work backwards if you like. Explore the feelings and examine the emotions that those memories bring, then release the energetic holds they still have on you. It is a very hard and lengthy project and can take months to complete. You may cry as you release. Be warned I never said it was a easy, however you'll be a different person when you finish. Oh my goodness, so much lighter energetically, free of excess baggage and more complete and whole. Gia IP: Logged |
