What are people's thoughts on Rudhyar and Esoteric Astrology (either the book, or the discipline itself)?

Haven't read it. Maybe someone here has.

What did you think?

"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll

Hi Randall,
Rudhyar has gone where no astrologer did before. He is integrating everything:

Planets, Sabian SYmbols of PLanets in each house, Lunation birthdays, aspects of progressed chart, transits to progressions, past life by seeing new mooon before the birthday, cycles of Neptune/Pluto or Uranus/Pluto, PLuto-Mercury interpretation, NEptune-Venus, Jupiter-Saturn and so on.

I thought I was so smart but I feel very insignificant and humbled after reading his works. Have to re-read many times to see if I "get it" like he wanted us to.

Some of my inferences from Rudhyar's works:
[Note: MY inferences. I could be wrong in these too. Rudhyar's works are tough reads.]

1. To know the sum total of our spiritual self at age X years, just see the Natal Chart X days from birth.

2. To know our fated events at age X years, just see the Natal chart aspects X days ago from birth along with the Transits/Aspects on those planets X days AHEAD of the birthdate.

3. The chart during the birthday tells what the present year will be like for the Self.

4. The Lunation chart from Lunation birthday tells what the present Lunar month will be like for the Self.

5. Mercury and Venus have subtypes depending on their position from the Sun. These have important bearings on the character.

6. Retrogrades imply self imposed difficulties. Retrograde Jupiter is the self imposed difficulty between opposite sex parent figure. Retrograde Saturn is the self imposed difficulty in relationship between same sex parent figure.

7. Pluto is the higher octave of Mercury for the mind and higher octave of action represented by Mars.

8. Neptune is the higher octave of emotions for the Moon and higher octave of acceptance of worldly occurances governed by Venus.

9. The next planet will have the effect of the mythical Prosperpine as opposed to Vulcan or Pan-Horus.

10. Sabian Symbols are very important for each and every degree of every planet. They are invaluable for aspect interpretation between planets.

For the most part, I'm not an Alice Bailey fan (the whole India/Krishnamurti/Maitreya thing was a big mistake on her part imho)and I'm ashamed to admit I know very little about Rudhyar. Although I have run into the Sabian symbols and they are beautiful and enlightening in the extreme.

LOL Aselzion! However, hidden in all that verbosity is some very special insight. I intend to summarize Rudhyar's essential insights someday.

Greetings...

IQ...

ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, what, oh yeah, ok I'm awake again. Seeing his name always induces a deep coma!

Yes, I agree, he had a lot of insights, but his way of putting the ideas across.. can we say pompous, stuffy and BORING!

Now, I have read the works of people who were friends and students of his, and they have made the material much more readily acccesible... and on occasion, entertaining!

As for Alice Bailey... zzzzzzzzzzzz

She was another one with some good information, but not ALL of it is reliable and useful. As with any channeled material, it had to come through the filters of the Individual... and another one that's hard to read thru. Not for the faint-hearted, to be sure.

If any of you are insomniacs, I highly recommend either author.. they are better than narcotics, and certainly not as addictive!

In the Light...

The Opinionated Astrologer
