i was watching the history channel and it was a documentary on the mayan's and in their calender it says the world may end December of 2012. Does anyone have knowledge of what that date means, what exactly was their message to mankind? i've always been overwhelmingly interested in these things.

In Zecharia Sitchin's latest (and last in the series collectively called "The Earth Chronicles"), he explains the meaning of the Mayan Calendar ending in 2012. It's a must-read for anyone interested in mankind's prehistory. You may need to read one or two of the previous books first to get a better understanding if you are not familiar with this topic.
