Do you realize that in this century alone Anorexia has actually been an epidemic afflicting millions and millions of people! How can they even call it a sickness or a disorder? Anorexia is an affliction that society puts on people! Anorexia is NOT an internal disorder it's caused by outside pressure and stupidity! I blame it on the Magazines and those dumb DayTime talk shows! Anorexia is not a sickness it should be called a mental affliction by outside pressures like the American Society. -Now we know USA is too blame for this one! IP: Logged |

I totally disagree with what u are sayin so much so that I feel very fired up about this! Anorexia is not a phase the people go through,it is not a sensational act for something to do or the cool way to be, it is a nightmare to experience and extremely soul-gutting to release yourself from. But in calling it an illness, it is as much of an illness as any disorder whether it be scitzophrenia or influenza or a closed third eye. I have great personal experience of anorexia and that is why I feel I can voice my distress. How can anyone say it is not internal? Is it not true that any disorder/sickness or whatever u wanna call it effects all three body, mind and soul? Then anorexia being the physical is the symptom of whats going on in the mental and even the soul. personal responsibilty means that society does not inflict when anorexia is a personal experience. It is more than just social pressure or STUPIDITY! I am offended at the word stupidity! It goes much deeper and has alot in common with autism I believe, in the sense that especially when children are anorexic, it is the only way to communicate intense and confusing feelings to the outer world when a person no longer feels they are able to communicate in such a social manner such gruelling and self-destructive thoughts and feelings not dealt with in the every day. Ironically, u say it is the American society pressuring meaning social, infact it is an anti-social way to behave and a way that any person who was happy and balanced would certainly not experience for their personal happiness. I understand what u think of when u say that magazines and daytimes shows put people under pressure, but near enough every person in the commercial world has read a magazine or watched day-time tv and yet not all of them are or have suffered from what is termed Anorexia nervosa. Please understand that there is a differnce between wanting to look good like the celebrities and dying from self-induced mal-nutrition. I apologise for my fire as I know I will not feel so good about what I have written here later. But here may be someone reading in these forums who is having serious problems with Anorexia. Quinne i understand where your coming from as i have suffered from it, i do not belive it is a phase that people go through but an illness and a mental disorder." in the sense that especially when children are anorexic, it is the only way to communicate intense and confusing feelings to the outer world when a person no longer feels they are able to communicate in such a social manner such gruelling and self-destructive thoughts and feelings not dealt with in the every day." i agree with what you say there as being anorexic for me was a way for me to communicate all my anguish to the world, but what i also discoverd was that people didn't care they called me an "attention seeking ***** ", no one actually came and said i know you need help and i want to help you, the only way my parents found out was when i went further and had bulimia and my mother walked in on me while i was bringing up my guts IP: Logged |

Dear Seraph. Thank you for your reply. I really truly believe eating disorders along with behavioural problems and mental disorders ( as they term them ) are not understood at all. I would like to write a poem, I know I'm always sending them in here and I'm probably boring people with them, but this is one I wrote when I was in hospital with Anorexia. I was 14 and 15 at my worst times and I was so enraged at how they treated young people like myself, I even appeared in a tv programme when I was in hospital to try and express this. My friend had got involved in it and asked me if I wanted to do it and I did. But anyway here is the poem, it might be a bit long... Lying in the bed next to me Dying was a woman as she said her prayer Lo Behold there was a medical page Telling the story of her victorious rage All her family gathered round to see the life lose touch of ground She drew her breath for the last time, the last time or the first time? And they said to me How can you want to take your life when this woman died fighting for hers And I said to them secretly in my mind Who was she fighting with? If she chose to live Then she chose to die So I sat there on the bed as challenged knowledge played in my head There's no more challenge here if u see It's still me! It's still me! Did she live with pain did she live with fear If her 'time was here' Then where was it of yore And where will it be yet? Did she forget to live with love?I hope u are feeling good now because it I know how hard it can be But it's good to see you here on this site and so great to meet you. Kiss and hug to ya!
