For me, friendship means trust. I don't call someone a real friend until I've known them long enough to be able to rely on them. The people I hang out with at school are normally not my best friends. I just enjoy their company; my real friends I don't talk to so much, but I can trust that they're there.

So what are everyone else's thoughts on this topic?

I feel almost exactly the same way except I tend to get caught up in friendships with people who don't like me. The only real friends that I really have are the older friends that I do not talk to every week or month or sometimes a year but they are my best friends and I love them and trust them dearly even though I don't always show it. Honestly there are few females that I have ever stayed friends with because I later find out that they dislike me. I think that a lot of females are threatened by me because; apparently I have a Way about me, which I have observed on occaision(sp?), but I don't even look at guys who are attached, much less/more a friends' boyfriend, so I don't know why I have this problem with female friends. Anyway the only real lasting female friendship that I have is with a Leo female, and we all know that They are never threatned. ....and there's more.
I don't know how to feel about friends in general because I hardly ever have the same friends for too long they come and for some reason or other they are out of my life in a year or two.

Trust says it all.

i agree as well, except, well i find that i trust people far too easily, i can't seem to understand that people DON'T have good intentions....usually i trust someone immediately and find that they think i'm not trustworthy because i talk about things freely with anyone i meet. but i figure its their problem really, i've come to expect the least from "friends" so when i get more, well it's nice.

I have alot of friends. This year, I made so many of them. I'm going to a new school next year, and of all the friends I made, there's only two I'm gonna miss & I'll probably try keep in contact with. The others, I don't care about them enough. You can only count your real friends on your finguers.

Zerep, I have to agtree with the statement that you can count your real friends on you fingers! I don't really want tonnes of close friends... I think real friendship devalued if you spread it around to everyone.

But of course I love having plenty of hanging-out friends! They give me more flexibility in my social life.
