I've been lied to, betrayed, and cheated a lot in friendships. For a year I had been depressed because of it. I wouldn't eat or talk or do anything except sleep. My mom would always yell at me to get up out of bed, because I was wrecking my sleeping schedule. I just couldn't bear to deal with thinking about having to go to school everyday, having to act like I was just fine, even when the people I had loved more than anyone in the world tore me apart. Knowing that I couldn't cry and that no one would ever stand up for me.Finally I was able to get over it. I still had no friends. And then one day, this semi-popular girl who I had known since elementary, but had never said a word to, came up during lunch and sat next to me. Our first conversation was this: Me: Hellllooo? (Slightly critical, bit suspicious, questioning gaze) Her: (quietly) Hi. (moment of silence, me staring at her in bafflement, and her reading Breaking Dawn, face centimeters away from pages, long hair covering every inch of her face) Me: Why are you sitting here? Why not with your friends? Her: -shrug- Me: But....Whaaa-? Of course, you know! If you didn't, you'd be a zombie. No, wait; even zombies know what they're doing. You'd have to be brain dead. Her: (never once glancing at me) -shrug- Me: -Frustrated sigh- For three days it was like that. That one conversation, and then complete silence. But then I had enough of it. She was being secretive, disrespectful, and indifferent. Three of the things I despise the most. So, in that tone I use when I've had enough and don't intend to stop until I've got what I want, I said- Me: Why are you sitting with me! You have friends ya know, use them! Her: I don't want to sit with them. Me: Why not? (Keep in mind that every word I'm using is stressed, and has an edgy tone) Her: -shrug- I don't like them. Me: That makes no sense! You build friends by liking them! Her: They're not my friends. (Starting to look back at her book now) Me: (taunting voice brings her to attention) Aw, did you get in a fight? Did they buy the same shoes as you? How horrible... -pats her hand sympathetically- Her: (annoyed look) (indignantly) No. Me: Then what is the problem! Her: I don't feel like talking about it, 'kay? (Tone edgy tone as me now) (Moment of silence) Me: (calmer voice) Why are you sitting with me? I get you don't want to sit with your friends, but why me? There are other tables, with much better company than you're gonna get from me, sweet heart. (Last bit kind of sarcastically, very bitter) Her: -shrug- I dunno, you just seemed kinda lonely. Me: -sarcastically- Gee, thanks. Her: -shrug- (at this point, I'm getting ready to slap her, and break her shoulders) I don't know how, and I sure as Hell don't know when, but we became friends. There are a lot of things about her I wouldn't choose as my friend, and I sometimes think half of what she says to me is bull **** , but she's all I got. There are a few endearing qualities of hers. And we've grown quite close over the past five months or so. Yet I can't help but think that I really shouldn't trust her as well as I do.
I've never been a good judge of character, so why don't you tell me how you-if you can remember-met your best friend, and why you know they're a keeper? ------------------ "Maybe it's not my weekend, but it's going to be my year." IP: Logged |

Welcome!------------------ "All deaths are suicides, do you realize that? Every single one. The only distinction is that, with some people, suicide is a subconscious choice, and with others it's a conscious choice. Otherwise, those who commit suicide and those who succumb to accident, illness or "old age," die for exactly the same reason: belief in the inevitability of death." Linda Goodman IP: Logged |

Do zombies know what they're doing? I thought hey were just relying on hunger and instinct. Anywho, aim for the head!------------------ "All deaths are suicides, do you realize that? They are a keeper if you make them one. You can't expect them to stay if you center the relationship around yourself, you'll never keep a friend if you do that. Don't freak out over every little mishap (as I've done before, makes for a lot of fighthing) and, unless there is some recurring and really annoying behavior pattern, tolerate them. Everything's not always gonna be happy happy joy joy with your best friend, a lot of times it'll just be "meh" and sometimes you'll just be sick of their presence. But don't let anything get in the way. As long as you can be real around them, they're keepers. Wow, that was long. Not saying you do all that, but they're common things I've experienced.
