pffft
hardly slept and I am TIRED. Had some odd dreams earlier in the night but those are so frabmented now. This one I remember:

Was working at Random House but it was a temp job.. Executive Assistant like I used to be in real life for Mr. Vitale. It was my last day as a temp and I didn't really wanna be there. The other difference is that the offices were in the upper floors of the World Trade Center.

So I had another interview and I had to leave the temp job to go do it a 9am so I'd only been there 15 minutes or so. I was trying to gather all of my stuff so I didn't leave anything there but another assistant came over and asked me to help with some presentation.

I was really annoyed because I just wanted to leave but I went over there. It was ina room on the side of the building with tons of windows. They were watching a movie and I had to hand out some phamplets to the executives but the building started swaying violently. We soon realized it was an earthquake but the buildings lasted through it even though it was very big. I felt really disoriented.. very strange.. everyone else seemed to handle everything fine but I felt like I was on another planet.

I was upset so grabbed what stuff of mine was there, told everyone I was leaving and went to the elevators. I got on an elevator with one other man who was obviously homeless and a little crazy. I started talking to him, though, and he was grateful. I gave him some of my apple bubblegum.

Came out on the first floor and I couldn't remember where my car was parked in the garage beneath the towers or even how to get into the garage! So I went outside and a couple of the buildings outside had collapsed from the quake. There was a lot of chaos. I stopped to ask this family of women if they knew the entrance to the garage but they didn't and they pointed to the city busses that were taking people home but it was taking a long time because some streets were blocked and there were too many stranded people.

I asked if there was a bus going to Glendale but they didn't speak English very well and had never heard of Glendale anyway. There was snow on the ground and it was really cold. They were all in pink summer clothes.. even the young girls. I told them it was way too cold even though it had been 85 degrees the days before. I felt like I was the only person that coule see the magnitude of the quake and I was angry at everyone else who seemed to have a happygolucky type of attitude.

Then I went to look for the Glendale bus but couldn't find it.

Hi Wych - I don't pretend to have the expertise that Ra does in these matters, but a couple of things struck me right away. You were in the TWC and needed to leave by 9 am (the approximate time of the attack). Someone tried to detain you, and that annoyed you because you wanted to leave (you knew you shouldn't stay any longer). There was a wall full of windows and the building started swaying violently (like at the actual WTC). You were disoriented and had a hard time getting out and figuring where you should be (much like the people who were in the WTC, I would imagine). You tried to help someone less fortunate than yourself, even though you knew you should get out immediately (again, probably much like people in the WTC). Buildings began to collapse (obvious connection to the WTC). You tried to make sense of it all, but the people you found didn't speak English well and couldn't help you (people for whom English was not the first language were involved with the tragedy at the WTC). Snow was falling, even though people were not prepared for it (like all the ash and debris covered things at the WTC). The big difference is that in your dream, the problem was caused by an earthquake instead of terrorists. Since you live in Southern California, I would guess that you have learned to deal with the threat of earthquakes and that they probably don't seen terribly frightening (or you would probably move). Earthquakes are a natural event that you can understand and deal with. Terrorists are not. Perhaps this dream was a reaction by your subconscious to try to make some sense of the WTC tragedy. Since there is no way to really do that, your mind changed the whole thing to the result of a natural event that you can understand and accept. Then it becomes less frightening and you are able to get past it better. And maybe it took so long before the dream occured because it has taken you this long to recover even slightly from the state of shock that you (and all of us) entered into when we saw those buildings fall.

Again, this is all just a guess on my part, but this dream seems completely normal considering what happened on that day.

What do you think?

*hugs Ra!!*

FishKitten ~ I think you're right on a LOT of points and you pointed out some things that I didn't really notice immediately, too! I didn't even think about the time of morning and that's a great observation on your part!

A little background,, I lived in Manhattan for 13 years and I actually still have an apartment there that I own with my father on 11th street. I've been in LA for 4 years so I wasn't there when 9/11 happened but naturally it affected me more than I can express. I had friends down there in the area, etc. I've had SOOOOO MANY dreams of the WTC since then. Usually when I remember a dream I'd say that 80% of the time I'm in NYC in the dream and the WTC is almost always in the skyline. I've had extremely detailed dreams about 9/11 from just about every perspective imaginable. I've been on the planes crashing into the buildings.. I've been on the ground outside watching... I've been on the 100th floor.. I've been on the floors the plane crashes into.. I've been on the lower floors.. I've been in the parking garages... I've been on a helicopter reporting it...

hrmmm... even had one I was there the night before it happened and I was taking pictures of all the people working there and just crying anc crying.

heyyy I didn't even think about the snow being ash.. that's a great observation on your point, too!!

Thanks for the nice words, Ra and Wych. I didn't know you had such a strong connection to New York, Wych. No wonder you are still dreaming about the WTC.

From another perspective, this dream hints at anxiety that you are very much trying to keep under control. It has to do with your employment situation (references to jobs/interviews), or lack of it (homeless man), and the personal upheaval (earthquake) that could take place if things do not work out quickly. You are attempting to keep your emotions in check (snow/cold) but you feel anxious, disoriented, and somewhat lost about what to do ... and it seems that those around you are just doing fine, which is a bit frustrating.
