I’ve had a recurring dream every few weeks or so and I wonder if someone can help me decipher it. Its always rather short too.

I come home to an apartment I lived in about 7 years ago. The door is ajar and a kid is rifling though my stuff. I never get a good look at him (or her?) because when I enter they take off running, I just get a brief look of the color of clothes, etc. Sometimes I enter through the back door sometimes the front.

After hearing me the person darts up the stairs. This particular apartment building has two stairwells, one in the back and one in the front. After chasing them up the stairs (they are always out of my reach) I see them enter a doorway and disappear. (this doorway does not exist in the apartment building, at least it didn’t when I lived there!) When I open the door it’s a long, narrow staircase, going up toward the sky, as far as you can see. I never go up those stairs, but seem to wake up instead.

Any ideas. I’ve had this dream 3 or 4 times in the last 5 months or so. Thanks for any help.

Greg

Heya Greg!

About how old is this kid?

What kind of stuff is he/she rifling through? (musical?, personal?, bedroom?, bathroom?, etc.)

How do you feel when you see the skyward-rising stairs?

In general, this dream suggests to me that there is something you are pursuing, some goal or aspiration, which you cannot quite "catch". The kid could suggest anything from an immature/undeveloped or unconscious aspect of self, to your "inner child", to some repressed event/memory from childhood. Or he/she could be reaffirming that this is based in the past somehow, as possibly symboized by your old apartment. It could be something that began around that time, or an old habit resurfacing.

A little more information about these dreams should help to clarify at least some of the meaning.

What was/is the general feeling you had of the dream? ... frustration, stress, confusion, anger, nothing?

Hi Ra. Thanks for your reply...

The kid is about 12 or 13 years old and tends to rifle though glassware and other things that make a lot of noise, like a silverware drawer or something similar. Its always noisy.

When looking at the stairs I feel defeated and ambivilant about going up the stairs. I feel like he got away but I'm not really interested in going up the stairs. Does that make sense?

In general I feel a bit anxious in these dreams and often wake up startled. Even scared sometimes.

Thanks for your help

Greg

Is there some dream or aspiration that you left behind while you lived in that apartment? Prehaps something that you felt you wanted since you were 12 or 13? Or some dream that you gave up at that age? It is always noisy, so perhaps it is some clue that you are supposed to listen to. The stairway leads to the sky and you are reluctant to follow or don't want to follow...is there something you have left behind because you thought it was above your reach or impractical? As Ra said, it sounds like there is something you did not catch. Perhaps it is still important that you try. I'm no dream expert, but does any of this ring any bells?

Interesting.

Thanks for your response fishkitten.

I've been trying to figure out those exact questions and can come up with nothing. I lived in that apartment for roughly 2 years when I was in college. I was pursuing many dreams at the time and don't remember really putting any on the backburner.

The noise is interesting as well because it was an apartment full of music. I went to music school and loved with two other musicians so there was always a rehearsal or practicing going on.

Thanks so much for your thoughts.

Music is going quite well actually, sure I'd like to be more busy with it, but all in all I'm pretty happy with the direction its heading. Thanks for asking

Okay ... your subconscious is trying to get your attention! (recurring, noisy kid) There IS something that you feel is "out of your reach", something that elicits feelings of "defeat" and a degree of anxiety. If this is not about your music or your material future, then it is about the progression/advancement of self.

There are two doors here, one which is already open and which you do not hesitate to enter - because this is your past and you have already been there. The other is where you are now ... you have progressed from that past (up stairs) and you have reached another door. This door represents a point of transition from that-which-is/was to that-which-could-be ... and the sky is the limit! It represents your current perceived limitations. You have opened this symbolic door, which is the first step towards attainment, but you are afraid to continue. You can see where the future can take you, but you have not yet crossed the threshold.

The kid does represent some aspect of self. He could represent something about you that needs to mature, perhaps on hold since the age of 12-13. He could represent a need for independence in some way. He could represent emotional immaturity or insecurity. Whatever he represents - and only you can determine that - he is trying to get your attention. Your subconscious is telling you that you need to at least pursue this part of yourself so that you can continue your ascent towards your higher self.

You are stuck in some way - in what way do you feel stuck? Is this a spiritual matter?

There could be correlations between this dream and the last one you posted ....

Hi Ra,

Thanks so much for your thoughts...

I do feel somewhat at a crossroads. The door ahead is open and I can see part of where it leads but I need to take the leap.

My problem is that I'm not sure exactly what aspect of my life this may be referring to. I find it easy to make an argument that this is about any aspect of my life, music, my relationships, spirtuality, sexuality, etc.

I'm in pondering mode for awhile, trying to stay present and let this come to me...

Thanks

Greg
