My daughter who is 5 has been having dreams a lot lately. 2 or 3 times a week, sometimes 2 or 3 a night. Mostly they're nightmares. A doctor cutting up a baby; Me getting hit by a car and dying; me with my head on sideways and on and on. She just started this like three or four months ago. The only big change in her life has been her new 5 month old sister. any ideas? She's an Aquarius with Cancer rising.IP: Logged |

That's a major, major change for a child. I still remember what it was like to be the only child until I was 6, and then the arrival of a sibling changed everything. It can be very traumatic, and if your little girl has a cancer rising, she needs alot of comfort and security to ensure her that she is still loved. (of course, luna, I hope you can see I am not saying you don't give her love and comfort. But the psychology of a young child can be very delicate.)Night terrors and nightmares are very common at this age. Her dreams may be the way her psyche is dealing with the new child, being that you have to devote more time to a "new" person in the household, and she must share you with the baby. Also, she has reached the age where children fear abandonment from parents, and she may be going thru the "what if mommie dies?" fears. My neice has been showing the same pattern of sleep behaviour. Is your daughter afraid to go to sleep? Does she wake up crying? Perhaps a bedtime ritual would help calm her fears. A stuffed animal that will guard her, maybe sprinkling pretend "faery dust" that keeps the bad dreams away would help engage her imagination to good things, not scary things. Congrats on your new baby....and I admire your strength with 2 young children. I know its not easy...... MK

Hello lunacrab I agree with MK. My 5 year old son is going through the same thing - nightmares, afraid to go to sleep, afraid of monsters, etc. He has been telling me his dreams since he was three, but in the last six months or so he has gone into overdrive. Several times a week, multiple dreams in one night. We write them down and I get him to draw pictures when he can. I have a one year old as well, and there is no doubt that some of his anxiety-type dreams are related to our newest addition. As MK suggested, some sort of ritual or object (like a dream-catcher) is worth a try, although I have only had temporary success with my son using these. If I find something that works, I will let you know ... and if you find something that works, please let me know! Good luck! IP: Logged |

I've been told that certain prayers and affirmations before one goes to sleep will work.-StarLover IP: Logged |

Thanks. I will try some of your ideas. She's really into fairies so maybe we can do something with that.IP: Logged |

Well last night we put a dream catcher and a witch's ball over her bed. No bad dreams! She was thrilled when she woke up that it worked. Now she wants fairy dust sprinkled all over her room every night as well.IP: Logged |
