it's funny. a lot of people i know have been having school anxiety dreams...and we're all long out of school!! (although i know that you never stop learning...) i had mine last night. i kept bringing the wrong books to class and stressing out about how i was going to carry all my books home, as it was high school and you know in high school you get a big book for math, history, science. they're all huge books. anyway, sometime in between classes my friend was showing me his new pencils. i was completely fascinated by it. seemingly just a regular grey pencil. but i just started playing with it on a piece of paper, playing with the way that i could get different shades of lightness and darkness by pressing harder, and different widths of lines by holding it at different angles. now, i'm no artist (at least in the drawing sense) in real life, and i wasn't in my dream either, so i was shocked to discover that my playing around with the pencil had drawn the most beautiful leaf. but that led me to realize how long i must have been "playing" and that i was late for my calculus class. i sheepishly snuck into my calculus class and the teacher chastised me and i realized that i didn't even have the right book with me. then i woke up. anyway, just thought i'd share. i'm pretty sure that the leaf represents a new year/new life/new beginning type thing. it's the new year and on dec. 9 i'm moving to a new city and starting a new job. the job is school related...i'm going to be a pre-school teacher...and i'm sure the anxiety part has to do with not feeling prepared to jump into this. i've been an english teacher for almost a year now, but i got pretty extensive training before i started that and with the new job, i haven't really had any official training at all, other than watching the current/former teachers. anyway, just wanted to share. if anyone has additional insight i appreciate it. Hello cynicalpsychic What double post? Plenty of anxieties in your life at the moment to account for this dream. I'll have a closer look as soon as I can ... it will be a few days. IP: Logged |

Cool dream cynicalpsychic. The part of this dream that spoke clearest to me was the part about you using the pencil. I think the pencil represents a part of your Self, an extention of, something you have *at hand*. By playing with it, "pressing harder", noticing you could get different shades of lightness and darkness by controlling the pressure and getting different widths of lines, seeing that you had the power to determine the outcome of what showed up on the paper. By "holding it at different angles", sounds to me like you are seeing how your inner forces and the utensils you have 'at hand' , can direct a certain outcome. Looking at things from different angles can give you a certain outcome. And the outcome (a beautiful leaf) can be shockingly beautiful! You were amazed at the power you had to create something so beautiful. Also, since you did feel anxious in the dream, I do think that was reflecting the anxiety of your real life situation. Being a school teacher and starting a new school related job and all. Feeling you dont have enough experience. I think the "new pencils" could represent your new students. You will be teaching them the *ways of the pencil*. lol At least the *ways of the pencil* as it was in your dream. You will be molding them and helping them shape their lives. Giving them tools (pencils) to do just that. Seeing the beauty that you can create through a "pencil" by stretching yourself. Using new and creative ways....coming from different angles, using different levels of pressure. The "big books" and "not having the right books", shows the anxiety you feel in your dream, but I think the outcome (the beautiful leaf), shows you will do just fine. Let us know how it goes and if this helps at all. IP: Logged | |
