Hi,
I had an interesting dream about a flying unicorn. I was sat on a bench beside a stormy, dark ocean. I was a safe distance from the sea. Then, from the distance a white unicorn came flying above me. It swooped low and dropped a ball of its feathers. I didn't want to go near or touch the feather ball. There was a companion beside me who i don't recognise. I am surprised that I was scared of the unicorn because i've always thought of them as mythic and beautiful.

Any ideas?

Sparkling.

Linda wrote about Unicorns in Gooberz, and described them as nightmare creatures or something.
Wow-

Since reading that I never saw them in the same way.

Maybe it isn't really the unicorn that scares you, maybe it's the message it brings. Wings, feathers, flight, horn, white ... all of these elements separately can symbolize divine/mystical/spiritual energy, but when combined, and in the form of a winged unicorn (itself a divine symbol), it leaves little doubt in my mind. On top of that the unicorn is mythical, thus relating to the collective unconscious ... or maybe relaying from it, as a messenger. So, how appropriate that the dream takes place by the ocean, the classic symbol for the collective unconscious.

The ball of feathers could be a symbol for self, I'm not sure ... but I don't like the look of that ocean. And the energy of the ocean in your dream is related to the energy of the feather ball. I wouldn't be surprised if this dream is some kind of foretelling or forewarning. What do you think? Any feelings about that?

I am coming up to exams now....so perhaps the unicorn is bringing me the awful emotions that i've been feeling about my exams. Plus exams are a real mental hurdle...i have to think positively about them in order to revise well. I hope it isn't anything about my family because we seem to be getting through a difficult time and coming out the other side. This dream is hard to decipher....i can't hit the true meaning of it just yet.

Okay, I did some angel cards to help me understand this dream - it seemed important somehow. The first card I drew was joy - i asked what the message was through the feathers. This at first doesn't correspond with the feeling of the dream. However, the second card I drew was vulnerability- a card i draw often in connection with how i feel about myself. I used to close myself off from people in order not to be vulnerable and perhaps get hurt. In the dream I was afraid of touching the feathers (the message) and the stormy ocean was playing a role in myself feeling worried.
Does that help Ra? what do you think Unicorns?

That certainly seems to make a great deal of sense. There is a simple "excercise" you can do that may help shed a bit of light. Relax and replay the dream in your mind's eye. Approach and touch the ball of feathers. What is your first feeling?

Thanks Ra. I did the visualisation- as I go to touch the ball - i felt fearful and excited. When I touch it, it opens up and shines a strong ray of white light towards the sky - in the centre of the feather ball is a crystal ball which also shines with light. Oh and the white light birghtens up the darkness of the sea. I felt a supreme happiness from the light.

So, why do you think you were apprehensive in the first place? There is obviously nothing negative about the contents of the "message", it seems quite wonderful and enlightening, so what made you not want to approach it?

Maybe the dream is suggesting that you should face your fears, or that whatever you are apprehensive about in waking life is not really bad at all.
