without context and feeling it's hard to even think...

Are they in love?
Is it a real thing for him?
Maybe he is expressing that she is his ideal mate, the future mother of his children.. depending upon how he felt about the pregnancy...
on the other hand, maybe he is feeling 'unqualified' as a mature adult, and possible caregiver, and the reality is that he is exploring adult situations and finding where he fits with them.
Having a baby means settling down.. being responsible..being a 'man'.. so maybe those are the very things he fears, or is working though psychologically........
