I usually ask my boyfriend about my dreams and he can interpret them very well... but he's busy lately and hasn't gotten around to doing this one for me, so I'm asking here cos I'd really like to know!

I dreamed I was writing strange symbols on a large glass window... I was writing the symbols from left to right (I think) and each line was higher up the window. One of the symbols that stands out to me was a zig-zag like the Aquarius glyph (however I think it was just one zig zag, not two) or what my boyfriend tells me is "mu" (I've dreamed about this symbol before); this symbol repeats quite a few times in what I'm writing on the glass in the dream. When I stood back from the window I saw that the symbols were forming the shape of a tree, with foliage at the top and at the bottom of the tree where the roots would be, instead of roots there was a river flowing either into or out of the tree (not sure which).

It was dark outside the window and members of my family were there (inside with me).

I'm wondering what the tree and the symbols mean and what the river at the roots of the tree stands for. Like I said, I've dreamed about "mu" before, and it was carved into stone (either a wall or on a tablet); I've also dreamed about rivers before (in my river dream there were crystals in the river that I was responsible for, and some old ladies stole the crystals for souveniers and I was devastated... my boyfriend says this was because I had my period and the dream was about the lost opportunity for conception... when he said that it struck a very strong chord and I started crying, so I guess he was right!)

Any thoughts?

Hello GeminiLover

Very cool dream ... quite interesting. We'll give it some thought, and be back as soon as possible.

Wow! I wish my dreams were so interesting and esoteric. Can't wait to hear what Ra makes of this.

I had a thought, probably way off-base, but... could the tree have something to do with your family, as in a "family tree"? Your family represents your "roots", and water is your emotional connection to them.

As for the symbols, I have no idea, but they're intriguing. As I understand it, "mu", roughly translated, means "no thing" -- the answer to use when no answer applies.

That's an interesting interpretation! Could be right - the only other people in the dream were my immediate family.

I dreamed about my family again last night, and it was about my grandad dying (he died a few years ago), so that's weird.

Looking forward to what Ra has to say!

What a cool dream!

"Mu" in several ancient languages means the "mother", or "earth", in Bablyon it is "Mut" and in ancient Egyptian too, in Atlantis the word "Mu" is mother.

You say they were all females in your dream or the other one perhaps?

This could tie in with what paras had to say in regards to your family tree...I have also seen "Mu" as a symbol of a triangle in ancient geometry (Hittite civilisation?)doesn't a tree often looks like a triangle, sometimes...? Hmmm...

Very intriguing! Yeah I am interested in what Ra has to say as well! Esoteric indeed!

I edited to ask Ra a question, how significant is it to dream in another language (language that you don't speak perhaps?) what does that mean? I am often puzzled when that happens...

I'd like to know about dreaming in another language too... my boyfriend spoke in another language in his sleep!

I looked up my dream symbols in a book and it was rather strange. According to this book it said that trees foretell success or the coming true of my hopes; it also said the same thing about rivers. Sounds good so far... but then it said that windows in a dream foretell that my hopes WON'T come true... so what's that all about? *eyeroll*

I'm still trying to get to this dream.

Dreaming in another language is a peculiar phenomenon. I would say that it indicates either a past life, or tapping of the collective unconscious.

GeminiLover, I would suggest getting a different dream book. The one you looked in seems a bit superstitious. Books that make most symbols out to be some kind of foretelling or omen are not being very thorough.

Be back soon ...

Yes... I saw this book in a bookshop and put it back on the shelf in disgust! lol! Looking forward to any insights you may have on the dream.

Interesting point about dreaming in another language... a friend of mine was telling me the other week that she dreamed she was someone else, and she lived a whole life in her dream and when she woke up she was confused about who she really was! My thought was that maybe it was to do with a past life? But I didn't want to freak her out (especially if I was wrong) so I didn't bring up the topic!

Hello GeminiLover

There seem to be many layers to the symbology of this dream, and while I think I can understand what the dream is saying (my opinion of it, of course), I'm finding it difficult to put the thoughts to paper in some sort of concise way. Bear with me as I try to scratch the surface.

The way I see it, this dream is a symbolic representation of Self creation.

The strange symbols and method of writing (left to right, bottom to top) are drawn from past life experience, for a dual purpose. First, this infuses the dream with suggestions of ancient knowledge, wisdom, and creative expression, providing a link between past and present, as well as future. And it certainly adds to the esoteric flavor of the dream. Second, it symbolizes the transmition of information/knowledge from the left brain, our receptive side (which communicates through symbol), to the right (which translates symbol into language), or from the unconscious (left) to conscious awareness (right), while also symbolizing the creation of Self from foundation to fruition (bottom to top). Indeed, we are the creators of our own karma, our associations, our past, and our own destiny.

So the tree is Self, and the extension of Self through family and heritage. It is the Family Tree. It is also the Tree of Knowledge (it is made of the glyphs) and the Tree of Life (roots are a river). This Tree represents the coming together, the one-ness, of all these symbols as they culminate in, and manifest through Self. It represents an increase in your awareness concerning matters of your own evolution.

The dream seems to be suggesting that as you become more aware of Self (creating the Tree), you will find new areas of unawareness, new areas of the unknown, in which the potential exists to extend yourself into. (dark outside the window)

How this all relates to your waking life, I couldn't say. What do you think?

Oh my God, that is an AMAZING interpretation Ra... everything you said makes perfect sense, it really does. You just verbalised everything that was sitting there in my mind but I didn't know how to make sense of it or 'get it out'. And it does relate to my waking life! That's giving me a lot to ponder on and it seems to me very important.

Thank you! If anything else comes to mind I'd love to hear what you have to say.
