My bf and I had similar dreams last night. He dreamed that he was comforting his mother, in a father-type role, because his brother had gone missing or something like that; and I dreamed that my bf was the father of my child, and I hadn't seen my child (who was a baby) for a year and she was in the care of my bf's mother! So in both of our dreams, my bf was a father figure, there was an absent child, and an upset mother. And both of our dreams featured my bf's mother (in his, as a 'childless' mother - and in mine, as an 'adoptive' mother, whereas I dreamed that I was the one who was the childless mother instead).
