I was eating strawberry cake (not strawberry shortcake or real strawberries, but strawberry flavor). The colors were vivid, and it tasted incredible. I also had a plate that had slices of cake with powdered sugar on it, and the sugar fell from the plate as I held it. I was going to eat that cake next, but then I woke up. I feel like strawberries are a significant part of the dream.

Sounds like you were in an astral world.

Also, your blood sugar levels may have been a little 'off' in your physical body.

Food in dreams generally means thoughts or ideas.

Cake means a need to share or allocating work instead of doing everthing yourself. It could also mean not getting a fair share.
Strawberries mean sensuality or desires.

Maybe you could link them together.

okay the way you described it has me hungry now...yeah the ideas theory sounds about right, also maybe youre more hungry/desire for creativity/ideas/thoughts....vivid colors make me think of creativity....? hope this helps.
