I rarely see symbolic dreams. When I do, I get the message immediately. That's another thing. But my question is: I tend to see dreams that mean something - the other way round! In my dreams, e.g. sadness is happiness in real life, or anxiety is relief! I have always wondered, why my dreams work the other way round. Any ideas? IP: Logged |

My feeling is that you are resolving the situation in your dream so you are able to bring in the opposite. Is it always a negative in your dream that means a positive in real life? Does it happen with positive in the dream to be negative in real life? For instance, have you dreamed happiness and you got sadness in real life? Or relief and you got anxiety? IP: Logged |

Thank you for your reply, anongrl10!Yes! That's the point! I GET the same result both ways. Another example - IF I see someone pregnant in my dreams (which is a happy event), that means that this person has a huge burden in their soul or are/will get heavily depressed. You know what I mean? The funny thing is that the only explanation that I used to give for years to this, is that since I am contradictive myself as a character, I get these these sort of opposite influences! I don't know... IP: Logged |

No, I don't think it has to do with you. That's how the subconscious works. It is not exactly the opposite, btw. This is how YOU view it (I mean in your perception of it, it looks like the opposite but it's not). For instance, the opposite for the "pregnant person" would be "barren". You didn't get barren in real life, you got something bad though. Yes, pregnancy CAN be bad news in a dream. It's a symbol. You have to interpret it in context, i.e. in the whole dream not just by itself in isolation. That's why I don't like the DreamMoods dictionary of dream symbols btw... Anyway. When you see something positive that translates into something bad it's like a premonition. The older generation say that you ought to never say your dreams out loud to prevent them from becoming true. Because negative news are often symbolized in ways that could be positive literally (e.g. a pregnancy), you should never take your dreams literally. On the other hand, when you see something negative (say, sadness) that turns to be positive in real life (say, happiness), it is like a resolution of the problem within the dream. Again, "sadness" is an abstract interpretation of the symbol; what did you see exactly? what was the dream about? how did it make you feel? It's not as simple as "I see neg it becomes pos and conversely". You have to see the whole picture; the symbols in their context. What made you believe that it was a negative dream? How did you see "sadness"? If it truly was a sad dream and all the symbols in it were negative, you appear to have resolved the issue in your dream and that is why it was free to become positive in real life. Hope this helps.
