Wandering around a hotel speaks rather clearly to me about the state of conscious you're in (or was in at that time). You're not "home," rather you're wandering around a space meant for temporary stay but not really going anywhere in particular and/or without any type of plan and then you happen upon room 17. Essentially, you're wandering around in life with no set plan or contingency to where you are going and while wondering you happen to look up and see what is upon you or where this aimless wandering brought you.

If it is a warning dream, it might be telling you to get your act together and start focusing on something specific before you end up in a bad place because of a lack of direction and/or application of sound principles.

I follow a certain pattern for dream interpretation and have been doing so for about 25 years.
There is nothing in that dream that indicates to me that you are on the right path, exactly the opposite. A hotel is a place meant for a temporary stay and you're in there just wandering around, not knowing where you are going but in there hanging out. You don't even have your own room there. Then you look up at one point and notice a number. If the number was "81," I'd tell you you'd soon be a drug addict, or that you were entering the room of a drug addict but your number was 17, and based on what I know, that is dishonor and shame. Whose dishonor and shame I can't say but since you've indicated it comes up consistently, it is definitely a message your spirit guides and your subconscious are trying to get across to you. I would suspect that if it meant you were on the right path, they would not go to such repeated efforts to tell you that for you'd already know that and wouldn't need them to reach out to you. But they continue to present this message to you because you need to know about this. It's a warning and you're not warned about doing the right thing. Only you can know if this relates to you or someone you know.

Your brain or unconscious is trying to wake you up while in the dreaming state. This would be called Lucid dreaming.

You've programmed the #17 as a watch word, but seems to have forgotten that you did, so now it's confusing.
