I dreamt we had a lot of people over at our house. The lights were off, and my mom was making dinner in the kitchen. When she was cleaning up I heard her say to my Dad "Don't undermine me!" really loudly and I remember feeling embarrassed in front of our guests, so I went outside.

When I went outside it was nighttime. I saw our normal real-life backyard which includes a pool, but there were some animals walking around. A sheep I believe, a dog, a puppy, and something else. I had the feeling of wanting to find the puppy so I could pet him and cuddle him. In chasing him or trying to find him (I don't remember) my cell phone bounced out of my pocket and almost went in the pool. I also found my old cell phone model perched in a tree, and I remember turning it on to see if there was anything left on it (before I remembered the sim card was now in my new phone)

When I did he was white, and I remember holding him above me and then brining him back down to give him a peck, and he licked my face. Then I noticed something on my leg - it was poop. And I remember as I sat up from the grass I kept getting poop on my hands even though though I was trying to wipe it off. I also noticed the crowd that was in my house was now in my neighbor's driveway getting into a big white van and driving off.

I woke up hearing Ciara's "Hotline" song, which says "Call me up, hotline! I got some conversation, I can be your operator, Baby you should call me later."

Symbols I've put together

Poop - This could be a symbol for being s*it on or feeling that way in real life. But I also read it represents aspects of ourselves we feel are dirty or want to hide.

Nighttime and the theme of "darkness." - Again this kind of coincides the meaning behind the poo.

Pool - Here I'm just guessing the pool represents emotions.

Phones - Phones are symbols to reach out to someone or someone is reaching out to us aren't they? So the fact it didn't fall in the pool means someone or maybe my emotions are keeping me from reaching out to someone?

With the information you have provided, much of the guesswork can be taken out of the various possible meanings of the symbols. And you must remember that 98% of the time the symbols in your dreams are directly related to you and your relationship to the issue being presented by the dream. An example of this is your interpretation of the cell phones. Rather than representing your dad and the other woman, they represent the fact that you were not paying attention to the information in front of you, or ignoring your inner communication. Your conscious awareness is filtered, but your unconscious mind doesn't miss a thing.

The crowd of people represent the people around you, friends and associations. The lights were off, indicating that in general, others are not aware of the issue with your dad, it's a private matter. The interaction of your parents in the kitchen obviously reflects the tension and problems between them. The kitchen represents the heart of the family as well as choices and changes … you can see how this is relevant.

Night time outside indicates that this issue, at the time of the dream, was not a fully apparent one, that full light had not yet been shone upon it. The animal walking around symbolize unconscious energies/material. You wanted to find the white puppy because it symbolizes a new beginning, soft and fuzzy, which is what you would chose for this family situation if you could. But your unconscious mind was telling you that this may not be the case, which is what the cell phones were all about. That's why you kept getting poop on your hands and couldn't wipe it off, because this nasty issue can't easily be cleaned up any longer. The crowd driving off could represent feelings you have of being left behind, or feeling alone.
