This isn't about a specific dream I've had, but I've noticed that in some dreams I'll get there and the place will be familiar to me, and in the dream I'll think to myself "oh, I'm back here, it's as if no time's passed at all."

Now I can't recall what the place is, all I know is that in my dream I don't recognize it as a place that I've been to in my waking life.
What usually happens is that I realize I'm back there, wherever "there" is, and then the rest of the dream is practically erased from memory.

Does this sort of recognition hold any significance? Is it common to keep visiting a location off and on over a period of years?
This is the kind of dream I keep trying to remember but it's as if something won't let me.

Ha, a friend of mine mentioned the same thing. She recently dreamed about return to a place she's been in a dream before, but didn't realize until later.

Upon hear that I realized this frequently happens to me too. I use to have habitual dreams that often focused on my enviornment -and not much else. Id be exploring cities or finding new rooms to old or made up houses. Often I'd find secret passage ways that were maze like and I knew if I went down that extenstion of the house/building I would never find or be incapable of escaping.

I don't have dreams like this as frequently any more but for years the majority of my dreams were about my enviornment. As you read my post (thanks btw for the insight), I'll add that I have my sun in fourth house and a few in 2nd house. Anyways yes, I have ran into the same labyrinth of corridoors before and fallen into the same house in a dream before. So purhaps these things are more common than we think. Are the significant? Probably, just like any reoccuring dream. I imagine running into the same thing or place that you did in a dream probably means your experiencing the same external-life problem that you've encountered. Chances are your better equipment to deal with it though. Like recalling or falling back on what has helped you the first time around. Just my thoughts

I thought several things all at once i.e almost.

1) What eyes_like_pisces said. Coming across some similar problems and being equipped for the solution.
2) Hitting home base in sleep. Like your inner core. Being with YOURSELF. How is the feeling? Good, peaceful contended? Then it could be this.
3) You are actually recollecting/visiting some place you were in, in any one of your previous lives. This may be such a place with which you connect deeply and feels like your home.
Just some thoughts. Does any of this connect to you?

Hi

I also agree with Eyes & Love&Light: being back in a same situation. Depends on how you would feel though. Is it a -sigh- I'm back there! (investigate how this happenend, what are you doing that ends up in the same outcome?) Or do you feel delighted (something you can use and apply in the here and now).
Environments are very important. Depending on the dreams it tells you either how long ago a pattern started, if you should shed it (when it feels old)or if you shoudl reconnect.

My best dream ever which is sometimes returning and always looks different is this fabulous theme parc. It is always about new discoveries or reconnecting with having fun.

Hope this helps

Different places, especially recurring ones, are often linked with different aspects of our psyches. These places feel familiar because they are places within our personal mental landscape … the architecture of our dreamscapes is a reflection of the architecture of our minds. So yes, it is significant, particularly when you become able to recognize what portion of your psyche is symbolized by a certain place, thing, or person.

Great topic!

Good to know it's fairly common~ After reading the detailed responses it sounds like I'm the one who won't let me remember (ugh) will work on that

Hi eyes_like_pisces, Thanks for your thoughts That sounds like a pretty cool dream to go off exploring Yeah it could be a recurring dream.. I don't remember the specifics so can't say for sure. It's like there's a gulf between that recognition and the actual meaty content of the dream.

Hi Love&Light, The feeling is a little unnerving because there's a conscious realization that I've been there before, that I keep visiting that place, as in my "waking mind" is communicating with my "dreaming mind." The fact that I can have that conscious realization spooks me actually. Not scared, just.. kinda weirded out that it's not one of my regular bizarre dreams. I don't know anything about home base in sleep? That's interesting, never heard of it before! I'm thinking now that maybe being spooked might be my mental block to remembering..
There's this other place I keep visiting off and on, lots of browns and grays and greens, I just remember that I take classes there but I don't remember what for, and I have this guide, a male, because the place is really difficult to navigate and he shows me around, where things are. It's possible that that could be the place because I have that fairly regularly too......can't be sure. This dream for some reason I've never written down. It basically seems like a village, but constructed in such a way where there's a lot of hidden passages, etc. very intricate, so you need someone who knows the lay of the land to let you know where things are because there are a lot of distractions as you walk through. Thinking back on this, I believe I've never written it down because I don't think anything dramatic happens there. Regular dreams to me, mine and reading the dreams of others, they all seem to have something extraordinary or strange about them that makes them stand out.

Hi again Twirl, Another awesome dream, a cool theme park! You guys sound like you have the best time Good things you mentioned, I'll just have to start recording when I have this recognition, so far it's just been "oh that sort of dream again" but lately it's been nagging at me for some reason. Maybe I'm supposed to pay more attention to it. Or try to anyway. I tried that self-talk "when i wake up i will remember my dream" but it doesn't work as hoped. But if I tell myself to wake up at a certain time, I wake up, look at the clock and like this morning it was 3 minutes before the time I stated...so something *better give* here! -laughs-
Thanks for the bit about environments, well if it is that village dream it doesn't seem like an old village, it feels like a place I need to be so in that sense I'm not wary.

Hi again Ra, Good things to remember
"particularly when you become able to recognize what portion of your psyche is symbolized by a certain place, thing, or person."
---Yes I want to work on this part.
