I always dream about dogs and yesterday it was about a white dog trying to hang itself from balcony in beach apartment. But he was able to reel himself in and out if he wanted.

I've seen white dogs in dreams before and they've always been friendly.

What could this mean?

Hey Charlie,

An animal in our dreams represents our own instincts (behaviours, emotions, etc.) Depending on how you see dogs in general they would show up as that aspect of yourself. So if you are feeling positive towards dogs and like them, I'm inclined to think it reflects the friendly attitude of the dog (men's best friend, loyalty, etc.)
Are you perhaps being (over)friendly and loyal in real life? (Hanging himself).
Or do feel different of dogs in real life? What do you think of them?

Or are you perhaps 'hanging onto' a certain vision of life which may not be that good? (Balcony, "life is a beach').
Is there a behaviour that is perhaps hurtful to yourself?
Just some questions to get you started.

For the other dog dreams: White is generally a colour of purity and cleansing.

Do you remember more details?
Hope this may be if some help.

I love dogs!!! Not small dogs however...

I am in the midst of moving countries and have also gotten engaged. I wouldn't say that I have regrets but I AM worried about losing my "freedom" because I am very very very independent.

I am also loyal and think I have trouble seeing "bad" things in people even if they are friends but if I do, I always forgive.

Just the past 2 months wolves have been popping up too. Not in dreams but on random billboards, random books I've stumbled upon in library, names of people I randomly met etc.

What would you say the most outstanding trait is of a dog? What do you absolutely love about them?

Freedom for me is not something I personally associate with dogs, but maybe there is something along those lines? Something feels as if it is 'choking you' (hanged of balcony).

Wolfs are the same family, but can appear rather threatening (again, depends on how you feel about them). But they are wild and not trained like dogs to listen and are very dominant. Also think of expressions as 'wolf in sheepskin' etc. Maybe there is someone around taking advantage of your kindness/seeing good in all. Just a suggestion of course.

Perhaps you can look up the meaning of wolf as a totem animal. There might be a message there for you.

Edit: the wolf does represent a free spirit by the way

I see dogs as not only dogs but an "equal" to me and I have always treated my dogs as such, friends.

I will look at the totems. Thank you!!

I am wondering wether I trust in my own loyalty towards my future marriage perhaps..

Hi again,

I still think there is more to your dream.
When you dissect them first look at the surroundings, what is the weather, is it light or dark? That gives you a first outline. Then tune into how you felt in this dream.

Now for the symbolism: the dog is a part of you and your behaviour/intuition/feelings. But it is 'hanged'. So what are you trying to shut down/not listening too/cut off from? What is 'killing that' instinct?

Now for the balcony: for me it most often refers to a future vision.
Also it being a beach apartment, it was most likely at the shore (sand-water). A referral to a transition phase.
So all in all it may have something to do with how you feel about this transition (marriage/but perhaps also the move to another country).

"hanging" could also be explained as some sort of 'surrender'. Implying you might be giving a part up again.

I'm still looking for the 'key' in how you see dogs. Is 'equal' the most outstanding trait for you? Is there enough quality in your life? Do you feel you are sacrificing your equality?
Say that I would have never seen a dog and really do not know what it is. How would you describe them to me? That might give you more clues.

If the wolf showed up as a totem for you, it also might give you more information. Perhaps you can google on 'wolf medicine' and Ted Andrews (excellent author on animal totems).

Good luck!

In terms of the "hanging" part I am not sure it necessarily is a bad thing because I know that when I am about to make a mistake or feel totally overwhelmed I ALWAYS dream of being chased by a tsunami wave. It never fails and looking back at all those scenarios it's almost comical!

The first time a white dog appeared in my dream (a white German Shepherd) was a month into my current relationship. I remember in dream I was very calm and the dog was just with me, smiling but doing nothing.

The dream yesterday, like I described it, was on beach, it was sunny, and seeing the white dog trying to hang itself on balcony I felt, in dream, "oh no, what a silly thing to do, let's save it" but it wasn't a feeling of panic but more a realization while remaining calm. All in all the surroundings where.....serene. Just the hanging dog from balcony and that it was able to pull itself in from balcony because the noose was attached to a rod.

I have a had 4 dogs in my life. 1 Golden Retriever, 2 Dobermans and 1 Pitbull/Chow Chow Mix. They all had human names and my favorite one of all was the latter because she was EXACTLY like me, bit odd actually.. I had her and the Golden for 12 years and they lived together. When you ask me what dogs TRULY mean I find myself not really being able to answer your question because it feels as if answer is deeper in me than what I can access.

Also, and this I find interesting...I have a "Hades Moon" and Hades was guarded by his dog "Cerberus" and my Egyptian sign is "Anubis" which brought people to the underworld and embalmed them. He was depicted as a dog/coyote. So there are dogs everywhere in my psyche!
