So a few nigths ago, (it has taken me this long to be able to write this down). I had a dream, it was fluid with lots of other parts that I wish I could remember. What I do remember is my father and I were together (in real life he abandoned me at age 10 and haven't see him since)...in the dream, there was a haze of red and gold and I was kissing his neck *not mouth. The dream felt connected to my boyfriend in real life who has been away for three weeks and I wonder if the two things are related? Is there sexual desire mixed in with feeling of abandonment? Am I worried that my boyfriend will return not feeling the same and thus leave me?

I don't think you need to worry about this in regards to your dream. As all in the dream world are aspects of ourselves, your father is too. The father reflects your inner parent, so to me it represents you are actually open up/integrating the part where you take good care of yourself. Look out for you.
Sexuality and desire often shows up in dreams when a) there is a longing to make that part, part of yourself. Having actual sex is truly the integrating of that quality.
That's how I see it. Hope it will calm your mind a bit.

Perhaps....in the dream I felt content and passionate. There was a golden haze tinged with red, he and I were in a dark room. For years, I have had to contend with a mother who is not able to love my sister and I (in the way we need), so in the last two years I have had to develop "self love" and learning to self comfort. I am interested in what your interpretation, maybe I am facing the father role and part of me...

Sorry to hear about the difficult relationship with your parents
However in regards to the colours shown in your dream, the red & gold, they do relate to self value. That is what the gold represents to me. The fact the scene takes place in a dark room, could point towards the fact that you are still not completely aware of these inner qualities/the desire longing for these qualities. So you are basically still developing them. Also the kissing of the neck would represent the wish to integrate this part more into yourself.
The red (and the thoughts of the relationship with your bf) relate to the root chakra. So bringing this quality into the world. Really making it part of you.
Your BF in the dream would most likely show as as 'daimon lover'(similar to what Jung calls the animus), but this part of ourselves inspires actions and creativity more than just the animus. So the change comes even more from the inside.

On a deeper level it can also mean that you are coming to terms with (parts of) your father's actions, which will still lead to the fact you are becoming more and more your own parent.
The role of a father figure is to stimulate and give the gift of (self)trust to children to be their own person. And with that trust they can stand on their own two feet and feel comfortable taking their place in the world. The 'father energy' is outward orientated. You can study the Emperor card from the tarot to understand more of the Father role.
Sounds you have been working on these qualities beautifully the last couple of years. And there is a desire to even own it more. Think that was the message of your dream.

Hi Twirl, thank you for your insights.I do think this dream was relevent. I also felt a connectedness in the dream to my father , its like I had found him again. I have been thinking lately about what it would be like to have a child and be a parent, and what kind of partner would I like to raise that child with me? I have been questioning where I come from....my own parents. And thus the relationship with myself.

Makes sense. The deeper level could then suggest the parts of what he taught you (and did resonate with you), you are taking in. The other (less pleasant) parts are shed. In my opinion this is just a part of the dream. The other things (being your own parent) still stand
