In my dream I was looking out across a golden sky. The sun was just peeking over the horizon and I couldn't tell whether it was sunrise or sunset. There were red rock formations and it looked like Sedona, Arizona. I was in awe of the beautiful golden glow and marveling at the formations. Behind me was an ocean and stretch of beach, with large sand dunes. A hawk flew down from the sky and landed on top of one of the sand dunes nearby. It looked straight at my right eye with its left eye, and I could see the hawk's pupil moving as it focused on my eye. I could feel my pupil adjusting, and it was as if my right eye zoomed in on the hawk's copper/brown eye. I feel like the hawk was trying to tell me something, and that we were communicating telepathically when our eyes were zoomed in.

As this was happening, a tan squirrel with white spots appeared on one of the dunes. I was hoping that the hawk wouldn't see the squirrel because I didn't want to watch it suffer, so I yelled to try to scare the squirrel. The hawk went after it, but the squirrel was running back and forth in a valley between two of the sand dunes. The hawk jumped around flapping its wings, almost like the hawk was just waiting for the squirrel to wear itself out since there was no where to run. I woke up before seeing the fate of the squirrel, but I knew that it didn't stand a chance. I did feel bad for the squirrel, but I knew that this magnificent hawk existed because of this circle of life.

I can't get this dream out of my head, and I was just wondering if someone could offer insight into the possible meaning or message. Thank you to anyone who even took the time to read this. I know its long, but the dream was so vivid and detailed that I didn't want to leave anything out.

And thank you for writing this, because I just witnessed a murder of crows attacking a hawk's nest outside my door. Defending the babies, it was horrible.

As you say, it is the circle of life, if distressingly so...

That's awful to witness something like that. I always feel like birds are omens whether they are seen in dreams or in real life. To the crows it was kill or be killed, and they wanted to take out the next generation of predatory birds. I just hate to see any animal suffer, whether it's for the overall good or not.

In the dream I didn't want to see the squirrel get eaten, but I felt like the hawk was a far superior being and that this was following the natural order of things. The dream had a very strong feeling of destiny. I think I have an idea of what the message in the dream is, but I wanted to get feedback from others.

I'm sorry, I don't know a lot about dreams, I think sometimes you know your own associations better than someone who doesn't know you; of course there are certain Symbols that mean certain things Universally, as Jung was so well-versed in.

Those stinking crows do that to those hawks every year in top of the same pine tree.

They always come back.

The Hawks, I mean.

Hello Bluejay

I love this dream. Simple yet deep.

The setting is representative of the layers of your mind/psyche, from the unconscious (ocean) to the superconscious or divine (golden sky), and the landscape of the self in between (rock formations, beach, etc.), perhaps even referencing the destiny you speak of (sand dunes).

The animals, too, are reflections of self. As Hawk lands atop the sand dune, it is reminding you that this aspect of yourself, your higher/divine self, is the master of your destiny. Acting upon (right eye) this spiritual influence within yourself (left eye), focusing upon the balance it can provide (right/left, upper/lower, inner/outer) will give you the knowledge and wisdom to understand these things, these aspects of self, which are seemingly trapped within the confines of fate and time (squirrel in the dunes). Squirrel, representing lower, instinctual aspects of self, cannot see beyond the dunes. Hawk can rise above and survey the larger picture.

Hawk is telling you that you signed up for this, that you agreed to make certain sacrifices in this life for the greater good of others as well as yourself. You are experiencing the circle of life that you created. The suffering is an illusion, for in the end there is no suffering … it is the natural order of things.

You are a spiritual person. The dream reflects it, and of course you already know it, but sometimes we need a reminder. This dream is a reminder, and a gift, from spirit, from your divine Self. Draw upon the energy and power imparted to you by Hawk.

What do you think?

Wow Ra, thank you so much for taking the time to interpret my dream. Your interpretation was amazing and so insightful. I knew what I felt the dream meant to me, but I wanted to hear other points of view. I can't believe how spot on your interpretation was.

I will start by saying that I dream A LOT. So much so that my doctor recommended me for a sleep study because he said I'm not going through the proper sleep stages, which is causing me to stay too long in the dreaming state. I have multiple dreams every night, and even though I don't keep a dream journal, I do take a few minutes every morning to think about my dreams and their meaning. Every once in a while I have a dream that I feel is very meaningful that I will always remember in detail, even from childhood. This dream was one of those.

It almost felt like a memory from a past life, although I'm not aware of a place that has these types of rock formations near a coastline. I feel like I was looking out over the formations wanting to explore what was out there. I felt like it was both sunset and sunrise, I think representing an ending and subsequent new beginning. I could feel the warmth of the golden glow that surrounded me in the sky, it was very comforting and felt like a very destined and fated moment. I think the hawk represented my subconscious and intuition. When the hawk looked at me, I feel like it was trying to tell me to trust my intuition, and not question what I intuitively know to be true. It's so serendipitous that your username is Ra, since when I was searching for meanings of the dream I came across several references to the eyes of Horus and Ra, and I've always been fascinated by ancient Egypt. Also the symbolism of the end of one day and the beginning of a new day. The squirrel I wasn't really sure about. I didn't know if it represented a person, or a part of myself. I guess it's simultaneously both, because I have been struggling with a decision that may cause pain to another person. I don't want to hurt this person, but I feel like in order to live my life to its fullest potential that I have to trust my intuition and follow my heart. To do otherwise would be living in denial and not being my authentic self. To avoid potentially hurting this person, I would ultimately hurt myself. I think being between the dunes was quite literally being in a rut, unable to take action, but only postponing the inevitable. If I could do what I have been avoiding out of fear, I would have the strength to soar above the rock formations towards the new day. The situation I'm referring to has caused me years of turmoil, because I questioned my own intuition. I feel that the outcome of the situation is not as important as learning the lesson to never let fear influence my decisions in the future and to trust my instincts.
