Hello Love&Light
The setting of the dream suggests that you are dealing with emotions (body of water) of a "dark" and "cloudy" nature, perhaps emotions you do not want to feel, or have "put on ice" (snow covered region). Something has occurred which has upset your mental state or thinking (catastrophe in the sky) or has disrupted your connection with your higher, spiritual self.
As animals of the sky, and particularly in the context of this dream, the fallen birds likely represent thoughts, or maybe even communication of a sort, that you wish to avoid (dodge them) and hide or protect yourself from (behind small mound). They represent the fallout from whatever it is that has disturbed you which you do not want to deal with.
Optionally, they could represent messages or thoughts not received from your higher self due to a disconnection caused by the disturbance/disruption. Either way, it is something you are avoiding and/or protecting yourself from.
Does this make any sense? Or should we look from a different angle?
