You seem to be very attached to him, but he is "too preoccupied to chat"... But still he came to see you, meaning he, too, still have strings. He stayed with your mom. On the one hand he is being personal, as he is with someone close to you, on the other hand there is a distance, as he is not with you. Your mom talks with you about his wife - you acknowledge things have changed and now someone else is sharing his life. The message comes from your mother, perhaps to soften the blow. She functions in the dream as a mediator. You feel strongly his son - his new life.
