I woke up pretty freaked out a few days ago. I had a dream where my boyfriend and I were at this house we stayed at recently in Portland, OR for a vacation. However, it wasn't in Portland anymore, it was now on a lake/river. My brother and best friend (both live far away from me) were there too. It was the last day of the "trip" so we all were cleaning up, and then after decided to go out on the lake/river one last time.

While out on the lake, I was on a raft. We were all talking and enjoying ourselves when we started playing around and I managed to tip my raft over. When it tipped, I fell into the water and hit my head on some rocks below.

Next thing I know I wake up in a hospital and I can't breath or move very well or talk. Slowly my arms and legs begin to get feeling back but I still can't speak. I freak out because how will anyone know I'm awake, what if they think I'm still asleep forever. My nervousness makes my heart monitor go off and nurses come in. It's still dark out. The take out the ventilator. I somehow manage to walk around and end up looking in a mirror. I have wires and IVs plugged in. I notice my hair is still long, which is surprising because I thought I would be bald. I ask the nurse how long I was asleep - she says I was in a coma for 3 years. I am now moved out of my solo room into a room with a middle-aged, friendly, chatty man. He is uplifting and makes me happy.

I ask the nurse if I can call anyone - namely my Mom or my boyfriend. She says she is supposed to take a nap (it is still early). But she then smiles and says that she has to call people first before I can so as not to startle them. She says I am allowed to call my Mom but I ask about my boyfriend. She says that would cause too much emotional stress so no. I wonder what sort of stress - has he moved on?

Then I wake up all freaked out.

It was SO vivid! I was kind of freaked out about it all day...

Hello muddytoes

I have some thoughts and I'll post them just as soon as I can.

Atlanta, huh? That's where I am from. What part of town?

There are three symbols that all represent the same sort of thing. The lake can symbolize the unconscious, emotions, change. The dark can symbolize the unconscious, unawareness, the unknown. The coma obviously represents unconsciousness, unawareness.

The dream is suggesting that there is energy/material/emotion emerging from your unconscious, perhaps energy that you do not particularly want to acknowledge or think about (hit head on rock). It is again suggested that feelings/emotions are emerging (regain feeling/begin to awaken) from the unconscious (dark outside) which you do not wish to acknowledge or "voice" (cannot speak). But no matter your reluctance or efforts to cast off/cut away these shadowy thoughts (expected to be bald) (hair=extension of mind=thoughts), the thoughts persist (hair is still long).

Not coincidentally, 3 is a number of change/transformation (3 years in coma), possibly related to the change of energies/thoughts from the unconscious into consciousness.

So that is what I see going on underneath. It boils down to fear/concern about the future of your relationship, and there are two possible reasons for the dream.

This dream could simply be a reflection of unfounded fears, rooted in your psychological make-up, possibly stemming from past experience. Fear of loss, abandonment, insecurity, etc.

Or, you have reason for concern, feel something isn't right, but do not want to acknowledge it and/or are just beginning to receive hints about it from your sub/unconscious.

What do you think?

This definitely resonates! I would say there are some underlying fears/worries regarding this relationship that I am nervous to acknowledge. Speaking about them could make them real. Communication issues of course. Need to be more open and self assured.

I'm glad that made sense. Thank you for sharing your dream.

Dunwoody is a nice area. I lived in North Decatur, not far from Emory University. I went to Druid Hills High School.
