I dreamt of a green bird living in my house. In the dream I lived with my father who passed away in real life.

It was about the size of a budgie. In the dream it was as if the bird was s.t more than just a pet. At first I just didn't like the bird. Then I felt it was evil. I felt it watching me. I feared it. And the fear built up to a point where I couldn't take it and I tried to kill it.

I tried to drown it and I did some other things that I can't remember now. But each time it survived and the wickedness it emitted got stronger. There is a scene where I hid in a room and it slowly walked towards the door, blood red eyes and all. I threw a piece of newspaper on it and flattened it with a hammer. Then I threw its remains in the bin.

Then the dream changed scene and there was a lot of people around me. We were all sitting at a table. There was my husband, some friends, and some people whom I don't know. They laughed, talked and told me that they would protect me.

"From what?", I asked. And everyone suddenly looked serious. But the dream faded and I woke up.

I keep thinking about this dream. please tell me what you think.

Have your father, when alive, protected you in a special way? It is interesting that you tell that in the dream you live with him, but you don't mention him again. The green bird may represent your fears, or a dark side. Are you afraid of birds? Notice that each time (but the last) that you try ro kill the bird, it becomes stronger and more evil. You feed that evil with your fears and murderous act. When you finally kill the bird, the scene changes. It seems like a nice party, everyone laughs and talks, only they say they will protect you. "From what?", you ask, and everyone becomes serious. From what? From yourself! The dark side within, all negative feelings which stem from fears, they killed the bird while feeding it. You did not kill the enemy. It is within you.

This is my interpretation. Does it resonate?

I will second that as my opinion is similiar.

Thank you for your replies.

Yeah I only had some glimpses of my father at the start. I don't know the significance of this element of the dream. It's hard to describe our relationship. He was somewhat "absent" throughout my childhood, but he was also the one who had a big impact on my life. He couldn't be a father figure, but he was an ally. That's how he wanted me to view him anyway.

About the bird, I find it strange that the bird was green. Like, isn't bird supposed to be a symbol of something good and peaceful. One in peaceful green colour at that. I like the colour green. I've never been afraid of birds. I had pet birds before.

I think your interpretation is a logical one. I don't feel that it resonates much with me though.

I'm trying to see if it could be interpreted in a slightly different way. The one thing that disturbs me the most was the bird kept walking towards me. Could it be that it was trying to tell me something? Could the bird be a warning sign that something bad might happen? Or maybe the bird itself was the first bad thing in a series of bad events? And the people in my dream got serious because although I tried to run away and "crush" it, but it doesn't change the fact that those things will happen?

Hi, 12muddy. Mind if I play?

I have some thoughts, but want to ask you a clarifying question. When you asked your friends (and husband) "From what?", was it feigned innocence, like you knew what they meant but didn't want to admit it to them, or were you genuinely puzzled about what they were referring to?

Oh, and, is this husband of yours still alive, and are you still married to him?

It is difficult to find a connection that resonates. I am sorry, that I could not help you.

I wish you all the best to find your connection!

Hello 12muddy

The dream suggests that there is something in your life - a situation, experience, attitude, emotion - that you do not wish to acknowledge, that you want to "kill", cover up, or otherwise rid yourself of. However, you may not be fully aware of what "it" is (you asked, "protect from what?") which makes it doubly difficult to recognize. Whatever it is, it evokes fear/uneasiness in you, at least subconsciously. This dream signals the beginning of its revelation, if you allow it.
