There are certainly specific attributes associated with particular animals, but animals in general often represent aspects of self or energies at work within self or in one's life. The three triplicate animals (dog, cat, parrot) are all pets, perhaps generally representing close/familiar aspects or energies concerning love, acceptance, care, and/or nurturing. As the dream clearly points out, the issue for you here is that "these animals had been abandoned".The number three is obviously emphasized (three each of three animals), generally suggesting the beginning of a transformative or developmental process. There are many other things three can represent, such as mother-father-child (which could be at work here), completion, time, or whatever else you might associate with three, so it may be worth looking into further. It may also be helpful, or at least interesting, to explore the number nine (3x3).
As a bird that can see in the dark, an owl can represent a messenger from the unconscious, intuition, wisdom. Petting this baby owl suggests nurturing (petting) a new or developing (baby) wisdom/intuition/insight (owl).
So, this dream suggests that you feel as if you are "losing control" of some area of your life and need to "exit"/park/stop. Driving a truck could indicate your job or some other "work". The conflict could have its roots in a process of development/transformation wherein "abandoned" aspects of self concerning love/acceptance have re-activated as a new/developing intuition/wisdom/knowledge is being nurtured. Perhaps some inner work you are doing is attempting to heal past wounds, and not without some difficulty.
Does this make sense whatsoever? If so, we can pursue smaller details. If not, then we'll try again.
The second dream may be related to the first. Do you feel kind of like you have "abandoned" your cats? As in the first dream, it is suggested that an "abandoned" love/acceptance aspect of self (cats) needs to be nurtured (petting). Because a skunk is black and white, it can represent instinctual energies within the unconscious (black) that are becoming conscious (white). Or maybe something just stinks.
Night can have the same meaning … emerging unconscious material. All of this has to do with something you want to be free from, unrestricted (outside/argue about mom following)).
What is bothering you?
Do these dreams have something to do with the relationship with your parents?
The first dream could indicate issues with your father, and the second, your mother … but I could be wrong about that.
Thoughts?
