What if you dream of things happening to somebody else and not you in your dream, how do you interpret that?

Like last night I had a dream a girl at work was being questioned about where a stack of money from the till went. I had the money but I had no recollection of taking it at all. She was wearing a black tank top and a plaid skirt, and the plaid kept jumping out at me so I looked it up...but I wasn't wearing the plaid in the dream so...how does that interpretation work?

Sometimes the other person in a dream is a person from the real life and there are similarities in the behaviour found in the symbol.
On other occasions the other person symbolizes a part of the "personality/aspect of life" that wants more attention.
