Hello,
I've been having certain nightmares for more than a decade and I'd like to read people's opinions on what they might mean.

Ever since I was a kid, I've had this nightmare where I'm in my house...The windows are closed but there's a little bit of sun coming in, but mostly it's dark. I know there's something about to happen that will scare me to death and I'm running around the house, going from room to room in a panic to find the thing/person that will scare me before it finds me.

Eventually, I end up in the bathroom or my mother's bedroom where I will look in the mirror, get scared ******** of my image and then wake up. Fyi, the mirror I see in my mother's bedroom isn't actually there in real life any more. Also, what I see in the mirror is just me, doing some horror movie scary grimaces and making some very scary sounds. Oh and if I look into my reflection's eyes, that is the worst, it just makes my skin crawl.

This type of nightmare has evolved through the years to the point where I actually go and stand in front of the mirror on purpose because I know it will wake me up. Other times I get a twisted pleasure out of scaring myself. I guess.

Sometimes, while I'm looking in the mirror, there are tingling sensations running through my body, like an unpleasant vibration. Other times, I'm floating and moving around (not by my own will) in front of the mirror while there's this vibration going on all through my body and a buzzing noise in my ears. The room is always dark, by the way.

If you've managed to read all this you deserve a medal I would really appreciate any insight into this.

Hello Scorpiogirl,
Is there anything concerning your mother that scares you? Something you see refleced within yourself? Perhaps you are afraid you'd be like her in some way.

Hi Ayelet,

I've come to think that my mother represents my conscience in my dreams. I read somewhere that every character in our dreams represents a part of us and I've also noticed that in some dreams I will run to her bedroom where she will be sleeping and wake her up, in order for me to wake up. And that's what I do. In real life she always tries to push me to make changes for a better life and is always the person who will point out to me my mistakes, which I already know but don't want to admit. In my dreams I'm usually afraid of her, I know she's somewhere and I'm running to hide or find her first. That's why I see her as my conscience and maybe that counts as a way she is reflected in me.

I don't know if I'm scared of ending up like her. There are parts of her character that I envy like her inner strength. There's nothing about her character that I wouldn't want for myself.

It is very interesting that your mother is a symbol of your conscience. In that case, perhaps you are being confronted with your shadow self, the dark side you may not acknoledge when you're awake. When I was a child I used to be afraid of looking at myself in the mirror when the room was dark. There might be something scary in this situation, when one needs to face his/her inner demons. You may try to reflect what it is that you hide from yoursel, and shed some more light on your subconsciousness. Everything looks scarier in the dark. The bit of sun which enters through the windows in your dream may indicate that some things are getting to the surface, reaching your awareness.

Do you see yourself in this kind of interpretation?
