Have you ever felt like you were in someone else’s dream and not your own? Like there is a foreign feeling about it. It has happened to me only a couple times where there is a certain feeling of detachment and does not seem like your own. I wonder what causes this. Anyone else expierence this?

Yes, though virtually every time was back when I engaged in various practices to open myself up to the mystical realms. When I shut down as it was getting too intense, such dreams stopped...at least the more surreal ones.

There have been at least a few that seem oddly synchronous with others close to me as if we may be "swimming in the same current" for want of a better word. (And what's funny is that my best friend and I have each other as our own Shadow side in dreams, but that's another topic.)

Back when it got intense, there was one time we were able to talk about how we were in each other's dream (me and 2 others). A lot of little things were different, but overall our vivid recollection of events (and each other) were parallel. We all knew this was something beyond the norm the moment we woke up as well, though none of us attempted to make it happen, but the 3 of us had worked on a spell together recently, which included attuning to each other.

A really odd one is kinda funny, and I felt I'd entered someone else's "dreamscape." Long story short, it was a dream of Revelations and Christians were being persecuted like in some Chick tract (not something I'd normally dream, and never dreamed anything like that before or since). Since I tend to favor the underdog, I was helping some Christians escape (who were all pacifist, unlike me) but we got intercepted by a couple of guards. I wrestled the automatic rifle from one (I know how to "twist against the thumb" to take things or free myself from even much stronger people) and shot the both of them and took cover as more came out (the Christians also hid praying).

Then a Chick-style (that is fundamentalist, Bible belt stuff) Satanist appeared in black robes and cast a spell that caused the rifle to heat up in my hands so that I was forced to drop it. In anger I shouted something like, "So you wanna play dirty, huh? FIREBALL!" (It's worth noting that I was playing D&D with a character that could cast that spell, and also watching The Slayers which included Lina Inverse who normally did this a lot which no doubt inspired my action here.)

The fireball detonated, but did no damage...save that everything was frozen. The people weren't moving or talking and I felt "free" of it so to speak. I was waving my hand in front of the Satanist who stood frozen and felt like I'd "broken the program" (by doing something I wasn't supposed to be able to do) that caused the screen to "freeze" in a matter of speaking. I then realized this was a dream and woke up.

I asked a Wiccan witch about that as it mystified me so, and she shared something about learning how dreams tapped into streams of consciousness (including, but not limited to, the Collective Unconsciousness) and that there were many islands and rip currents so to speak that could suck us into someone else's dreamscape. She believed that I was in someone else's dream (or at least his or her dream realm) but at the end I pulled in a power from my own dream self and that disrupted the rules of that dream island so that it froze as it did, and then I was able to recognize that this was not "my" dream.

Ultimately, it's a mystery.

I can add that I've only had one precognitive dream in my life, but unlike others who report such things, there was nothing metaphorical about it. It was literal, save for minor details. I KNEW that this was precognitive when I woke up, though I didn't see how it could be because in my dream the library was open to the public on Christmas (as I saw the church by it lit up for it)...but when the dream happened in real life later on, I didn't leave the library as I did in the dream, I instead walked past it on my way from the store, and the church wasn't lit up for Christmas but for Easter (other than that the events happened EXACTLY as I dreamed them). It was so trivial that I have no idea why I had that experience then, but like the other dreams, I instantly knew it wasn't a normal dream when I woke up from it.

Thank you pixiejane for these stories! What kind of practices were you doing to being more open to this? I wonder if I was subconsciously open at certain points to cause this. I know almost certainty that once I shared a dream or was in someone else’s dream. Like seeing through his eyes or feeling his feelings but still being me? Hard to explain but it felt very different than all of my own dreams.

It was about 20 years ago (closer to 15 for the premonition) so it's hard to say with certainty. I believe the spell I worked on with 3 others just before we shared a dream was for more protective auras (the dream reflected that with castle walls and the like), and we attuned to each other (synching our breathing as we tried to direct our own energy to interweave with each other, similar to trying to attune to a tree or the Earth itself, and also to the Tarot when my teacher tried to teach me that). This was within 2 circles, the inner clockwise to help us focus our energies while the outer circle was counterclockwise, all drawn and the energy appropriately directed, which was to repel other influences that could adversely affect what we were trying to do.

As for opening myself to the mystical, some simple meditations included a full clearing of my mind. It's best to set a timer out of the room (to prevent the temptation to look at it while also knowing it will let you know when the time is over). It focuses on all the physical input (eyes closed), ending with smell, and then trying to tune that out. Typically, when first starting this, one will think of an image or mantra as "nothingness" is ironically too much to consider at first (in my case it was a flower forever blooming). This was very important for calming the conscious mind to allow other states (including mystical and psychic ones) to come about consciously. It takes a lot of practice.

Once that's somewhat mastered then focusing on a large ball of energy (can also attune to say a redwood or other tree, the sun on a lonely beach with the earth underneath while on a large beach rock or in a cave or on a mountain, etc) while also focusing on a specific chakra, which for me was mainly the third eye or throat (and I'd have physical sensations for a long time even when I wasn't meditating on it).

These were my primary meditations during this time in my life, though I also did some out of body work (attempting to focus on creating a body outside of myself which I could then "transfer" to and use) which may have helped. This wasn't successful for the most part though I did have one stunning success, even if I felt it might've been a dream. In that one I floated up, then out, a house cat looked straight at me as I flew overhead (one reason I thought it was a dream) and I made it to the beach (where I often meditated) before brought right back, fully awake. I opened the door to see if the cat was where I saw him and he was which makes me think it was a real experience. Given that the realm of dreams is intertwined with (if not part of) the astral then maybe that opened me up to other dream scapes as well.

I did have some interesting success with making what a teacher called tulpas (new agers tend to call them "thought forms") which were like programmed astral bodies shaped into specific forms which even others might be able to see while asleep or even when awake, often mistaking it for a real person (like a waking dream intruding into the mundane world?). That's a weird story I feel uncomfortable sharing at this time, and ended on a scary note which my teacher then worked to close me down to the astral after, which I never undid and had very few mystical experiences since then (though I did have that one dream of the future).

There were two times in my life this has happened to me while dreaming, where distinctly aware that I am in someone else’s conscious if you will, observing like a fly on the wall. I think it’s a form of remote viewing, the very least clairvoyance. Possible you have stumbled onto a gift.
