Hi all,
I wanted to share my friend's dream here because we were both interpreting it and wondering exactly what it meant. Anyway, this is what her dream was about:

She was walking with her own dog as well as a labrador on a crowded walkway in a park. Suddenly both the dogs ran off to greet another dog. My friend chased them down to regain control and heard barking and growling. She reaches them to find there is a couple there with that dog except it's severely injured. The couple looked upset and told my friend to get better control over her dogs, which she was now doing by holding onto them. Another dog (a very large pit bull) was coming towards them growling and sneering. It's the one that attacked that dog. My friend was very calm and looking at this pit bull whilst holding her dogs and telling them to stay calm. The pit bull eventually left.

The couple tells my friend that their dog died and my friend looked over at her labrador to see that her leg was hurt and that she couldn't walk. So she took her other dog home and left the labrador there because she couldn't carry her.

Once she left her dog at home she got ready to run back to the labrador. Then some guy asks her if she's going for a run and if he can come with. My friend said yes and the two start jogging. The jog soon turned into a difficult race with lots of obstacles, a steep wall, bad ground and a bridge. As she's crossing the bridge, she sees the labrador lying there surrounded by about 2 dozen puppies or so. Happy and relieved that the labrador was doing well my friend left and returned home.

At first my friend thought the dream might be about her, but then she was looking up that dogs in dreams can represent friends, and so she thought of me, and the context of it seemed to make more sense in her opinion if I am considered the labrador. The reason why she thought of me is because I lost my sister a couple of months ago (maybe she's represented by the dog who died?) and I'm the only friend she knows who's going through hardship as a result. I also went back to my home country for the funeral and, during my time there, I met up with this friend (she's my best friend), but now I've returned. However, my friend plans to travel to see me later on this year where we'll go on a trip together.

Also, the interesting thing about the dream is that the labrador's back left leg was injured. My mum's left leg started hurting shortly after my sister's death and the pain slowly travelled down her leg and her foot became swollen and she was finding it hard to walk. My friend didn't know about my mum's leg/foot at all but I'm wondering if the labrador not only represents me but also the pains of those closest to me. Or maybe the labrador represents my mum or a hybrid of us.

Anyway, anyone have any idea what the dream could mean? My friend and I formed our own opinions but it would be interesting to see an objective perspective. Maybe we are a bit off about our interpretations.

Hello Hydrogenatom,
It could be your friend dreamt about you, but my suggestion is this dream is about her relations to and thoughts about couples and family. Maybe she's been through something painful - the dead dog of the couple. Maybe even a loss of trust. The couple tells her, before the dog dies, to control her dogs - could be she feels like she interrupted the peace of two people, one of whom could be herself, by not controlling certain aspects of her nature. The hurt labrador could also be an aspect of herself. I don't know why it was specifically the left leg that was hurt. It is interesting, though, that the next thing the dreamer does is to race - use her legs. Maybe standing up for herself? Then the race with the guy - trying to make things right between her and the other sex, while going through all kinds of obstacles. And the happy end of the labrador surrounded by family - the dreamer achieves a happy resolution of the conflict. All in all a positive dream, though there is a dead dog in the middle - sadness.

This is my take on the dream, but of course she, the dreamer, is the one who knows best.

Thanks Randall.

Hi Ayelet, thanks for getting back to me.

Interesting perspective. My friend did go through a tumultuous relationship with one guy a few years ago, which, strangely enough, resulted in her partner's dog having to be put down due to his own negligence and his untrained dog attacking her neighbour. Unfortunately, because it happened near my friend's turf she ended up being the one sued even though the responsibility wasn't hers. Her partner was rather useless while she was going through all the stress of defending herself legally. That put a strain on their relationship, which led to a break up. They did reconcile again but then broke up for good eventually. Now she's in a new relationship and has been for a while. I can see that this sort of experience would have made her lose trust. However, I wouldn't see it as her interrupting peace between them as unfortunately, given the situation, peace was thrown out the window by itself. However, the couple who told her to control her dog in her dream may signify the woman next door who got attacked and her partner, though I actually don't know that woman's marital status. But given she sued my friend even though it wasn't her fault it's a case of misplaced culpability in the dream maybe?

As for her standing up for herself and trying to make things right with the opposite sex, I don't know. That normally implies that the person did the wronging and she didn't, but maybe she want to try and set things right, not because she committed a transgression, but because she wants to keep her trust in the opposite sex for her own peace of mind instead of becoming jaded perhaps? She is in a new relationship and the ex appears to be ancient history, though I don't know what runs through her mind and what, if anything, unsettles her. Only she knows that. The dead dog could mean sadness with her memories of the previous relationship and the fact that it did involve a dog.

It could mean that too. However, given the timing of the dream and what I was/am going through, she felt that the dream described my situation better, not to mention the uncanny thing about the left leg hurting when my mum's own left leg was hurting at that time. Like I said, initially she thought it was to do with her but then changed her mind upon further inspection. The guy running with her, however, is one that I can't understand having any symbolic connection to my life. She probably hasn't considered her dream the way you have, so it would be interesting to see what she says on your take of it. Maybe she'll fine that it rings true for her. I can see the reasoning behind both sides.
