I had a dream this morning of a grasshopper catching a caterpillar almost in a spider like fashion.

I have never seen these two in my dreams before so its really stood out to me. Anyone have any insights?

The grasshopper is vegetarian, so him eating a caterpillar is even more meaningful and symbolic. The caterpillar did not have the chance to turn into a butterfly. Or maybe this means you are feeding of ideas which are in their initial stages, and are yet to develop in the future. Perhaps these ideas need to develop inside you, and the result would be something wonderful and mature. It might be as if you digest these ideas as a cocoon is making a butterfly out of a caterpillar. Things are moving into the next stage.
