lol!!! jwhop!!!the "government" brought down bcci "along" with a ny prosecutor??!!
sounds more to me like it was this ny da who wouldnt quit sticking his nose into bcci til the "government" had no choice.....
BCCI and Law Enforcement - District Attorney of New York
"In going after BCCI, Morgenthau's office quickly found that in addition to fighting off the bank, it would receive resistance from almost every other institution or entity connected to BCCI, including at various times, BCCI's multitude of prominent and politically well-connected lawyers, BCCI's accountants, BCCI's shareholders, the Bank of England, the British Serious Fraud Office, and the U.S. Department of Justice. Each, while professing to cooperate with the District Attorney, in fact withheld information from the District Attorney and in some cases, impede, delay, or obstruct his inquiry for months. Ultimately, Morgenthau proved BCCI's criminality, not because of information or cooperation provided by other government agencies -- with the key exception of the Federal Reserve, there was almost none -- but because BCCI had left a trail of evidence of wrongdoing there for anyone with the tenacity to pursue it."
"don't attempt to implicate the US government in that enterprise"??!!
I dont have to , just read the report....all of it...
BCCI, THE CIA AND FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE
"even when the CIA knew that BCCI was as an institution a fundamentally corrupt criminal enterprise, it used both BCCI and First American, BCCI's secretly held U.S. subsidiary, for CIA operations. In the latter case, some First American officials actually knew of this use"
"The professed lack of knowledge by the CIA about the activities of its foreign intelligence liaisons and operatives who were BCCI's major shareholders and customers is perplexing and disturbing. The relationships between the CIA and Adham and Khalil were, according to public accounts,
among the most important intelligence relationships the United States has had in Saudi Arabia over a quarter of a century. Similarly, Khashoggi and Ghorbanifar performed a central role for the U.S. government in connection with the Iran/Contra affair in operations that involved the direct participation of CIA personnel."
and yes this is also connected to Osama Bin Laden, the leader of the Mujaheddin ,and brother of Salem Bin Laden who died in a plane crash in (of all places)...MIDLAND TEXAS
"BCCI's role in assisting the U.S. to fund the Mujaheddin guerrillas fighting the Soviet occupation is drawing increasing attention. The bank's role began to surface in the mid-1980's when stories appeared in the New York Times showing how American security operatives used Oman as a staging
post for Arab funds. This was confirmed in the Wall Street Journal of 23 October 1991 which quotes a member of the late General Zia's cabinet as saying 'It was Arab money that was pouring through BCCI.' The Bank which carried the money on from Oman to Pakistan and into Afghanistan was National Bank of Oman, where BCCI owned 29%"
jwhop...are you suggesting that all this is ancient history with no impact on current events? I suppose you must think that after decades of covert criminal activities all these terrorists, drug dealers, arms dealers and corrupt politicians just packed up, went home and led virtuous lives just because bcci (finally) got shut down?
Introduction and Summary of Investigation
"BCCI cannot be taken as an isolated example of a rogue bank, but a case study of the vulnerability of the world to international crime on a global scope that is beyond the current ability of governments to control. Its multi-billion dollar collapse is merely the latest in a series of international financial scandals that have bedeviled international banking this century. Its techniques and its associations with government officials, intelligence agencies, and arms traffickers, were neither new nor unique"
of course one would think that if the conspiracy was this widespread then even the senate intelligence committee would be "in on it"
but if that were the case then one would assume that the author of this document should have recieved massive political "favors" for his role in
glossing over and burying the most damning evidence connecting prominent u.s. politicians to bcci.....
but heck...I've never even heard of this John Kerry fellow...have you?
