I renew my call for a universal draft but this time, when I write my representatives in Congress, it's going to be a demand IP: Logged |

Interesting, JW. Good to know you want to remove more of our Freedoms. Which other Freedoms would you have taken away?IP: Logged |

Scuse me LS, but where in the Constitution do you find a prohibition against a military draft?Best thing that could happen to a totally out of control generation.

I think that it would be ALL generations that would be "out of control" from one form way or another JW! I don't think that it's change much, since the begining of mankind(if their ever was a begining) till now!Humanity has always had to deal with the concept of good and evil, ever since he/she has learned to use it and yet realize it too as well! The only difference of today is the fact that we have "bigger guns", that's my opinion, but I think that it's pretty accurate, for the most part. The day mankind ceases to be wrong and NOT go the wrong way, is the day mankind ceases to exist! But their will always be those that fool themselves to believe that they can change all of that and apply it to they're "fellow brethren" and I believe that they will be successful, as soon as they "pull the log out of they're own eye", so they can see better of what they are doing! Hey Ozone, I don't in any way think this or any other generation is evil....no way. I like this generation very much, very idealistic.I just happen to believe that service in the military in some capacity is beneficial to the country and to the individual as well. I believe it teaches discipline and focus, imparts a sense of accomplishment and prepares people for life in the real world. Hehehe, welcome to the real world. IP: Logged |

I actually don't think that some form of service is a bad idea, though the military might not be for everyone (remember that I enlisted as soon as I graduated HS).I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, I kinda like the idea of 1-2 Years Service in * The Military (Any Branch - but it must be Active Duty, not Nat'l Gaurd or Reserve) * The Peace Corps or * AmeriCorps or some variant That way you don't run into problems of Concientious Objection (at least not about violence, but perhaps about service to a government), and those with standing familial obligations or medical conditions precluding travel could do local or near-local AmeriCorps service. Some issues that arise immediately given the above: * Enforcement - How would you go about that? Would service be a requirement for voting rights? Governmental scholastic financial aid (as with registering w/ the Selective Service)? Would exemptions be given for religious communities such as the Amish? * Funding - Talk about tax increases...the same goes for a universal draft. * Lowering of standards, especially in the military but in the others as well, in order to accomodate the influx. And...er...I had a few others in mind, but Meg wanted to be fed and now I've lost my train of thought IP: Logged |
