It would be a happier occassion if most Americans knew what the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution and the Constitution really said...and meant.Nevertheless, given that the system of government of the United States has survived and is the oldest in the world...considering it's continuous operation since it's inception, that's reason enough for celebrating July 4th. Although the Constitution wasn't ratified by the states for some years, most people count the Birthdate of America as July 4, 1776. 1776-2005 and still counting. IP: Logged |

------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |
