The supermarket chain Tesco has applied for planning permission to rebuild their store in Slough, Berkshire. Their current proposal would result in the cutting down of a Cedar Tree.

This tree is around 150 years old and is not a common variety. This is a species called Cedrus libani (Cedar of Lebanon) and that there are probably fewer than 500 decent specimens of this species in the whole of the UK. This tree is also protected by a Tree Preservation Order which can only be overruled by the planning committee of Slough Borough Council.

We believe that Slough Borough Council should deny this present planning permission and request that Tesco should re-submit proposals and plans that conserve and preserve this tree.

Iraq's existing laws regarding women's rights are some of the most progressive in the Middle East, guaranteeing women the right to vote, attend school, run for political office, and own property. But Article14 of the new draft constitution aims to replace these laws with Islamic Sharia law - which could dramatically affect women's rights in marriage, court, education and the political system. The draft constitution also does not guarantee Iraqi women a substantial representation in Parliament, as the current interim constitution does.

A renewed interpretation of Sharia law would turn back the clock on women's rights in Iraq. As the occupier of Iraq, the United States is obligated to uphold international law guaranteeing human rights for all Iraqi people, including the full range of rights for women.

We undersigned urge the Government of Finland immediately to tranpose The Directive (2003/30/EC) that requires 2% of all road traffic fuels sold be biofuels in 2005 progressively increasing to reach a minimum of 5.75% of fuels sold in 2010.
We undersigned strongly urge Finland to exceed these goals, and to represent this plan in the conference of ASEM countries to be held in Helsinki, 2006, in September. Automakers Talk Environment then Sue to Stop Clean Car Choice

In order to protect the health of the planet and its inhabitants, governments and industries around the world are beginning to focus their attention on reducing global warming emissions. And the state of California is leading the way, having recently passed a landmark law to reduce heat-trapping emissions from cars, trucks, and SUVs.

But instead of doing their fair share to curb these harmful gases, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, including self-described environmental leaders such as Ford and Toyota, recently sued the people of California to block this law! Honda, Nissan and the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers have also joined the lawsuit. [ send green star]

are there any americans out that feel the answer to our problems in the US auto air and overcrowded road problems start by the fact that during the turn of the 1920s the auto companies bought up the pubic transportion trains in most of our major cites and ripped out the rails forceing us no way to get around but to buy a car...why not start by sueing the auto makers to in reinstall the rail systems in our towes and citys....after all it is thier fault american is in the mess we are in and the cause of the ozone warnings we have posted in the city.
