CHUCK SCHUMER
Two staffers on a Democratic political committee headed by Sen. Chuck Schumer are being investigated by the FBI for an alleged dirty trick — getting a Republican candidate's credit report illegally, officials confirmed yesterday. "We are investigating the matter jointly with the FBI," said a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Washington. Phil Singer, a spokesman for the Schumer-headed Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said two staffers were instantly suspended — with pay*haha — in July after admitting they obtained the credit report of Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, who is running for Senate.
Since July? It's near the end of September, and Schumer has known all this time, and hasn't said a word? Meanwhile his staffers were awarded with a paid vacation?
UPDATE: The real irony here is the fact that Chuck Schumer has been very interested in the issue of identity theft...
HARRY REID
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) wrote at least four letters helpful to Indian tribes represented by Jack Abramoff, and the senator's staff regularly had contact with the disgraced lobbyist's partners about legislation affecting other clients. The activities — detailed in billing records and correspondence obtained by Associated Press — are more extensive than previously disclosed.
They occurred over three years as Reid collected about $68,000 in donations from Abramoff's firm, lobbying partners and clients. *note, and helpful letters were written by Reid within 4 days of Abramoff's clients ponying up money to Reid.
Reid also intervened on government matters at least five times in ways helpful to Abramoff's tribal clients, once opposing legislation on the Senate floor and four times sending letters pressing the Bush administration on tribal issues. Reid collected donations about the time of each action. Ethics rules require senators to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest in collecting contributions when they take official acts benefiting donors.
PATRICK (LEAKY) LEAHY
During the 1980s, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) leaked the Senate Intelligence Committee’s draft report on the Iran-Contra investigation. The draft contained information on CIA intelligence gathering methods. Leahy later resigned from the Committee in disgrace.
It was discovered he leaked classified information to reporters. Now he's on the Senate Judiciary Committee which is currently investigating top secret information regarding the NSA surveillance activities.
