WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. college graduates are facing the best job market since 2001, with business, computer, engineering, education and health care grads in highest demand, a report by an employment consulting firm showed on Monday."We are approaching full employment and some employers are already dreaming up perks to attract the best talent," said John Challenger, chief executive of Challenger, Gray & Christmas. In its annual outlook of entry-level jobs, Challenger, Gray & Christmas said strong job growth and falling unemployment makes this spring the hottest job market for America's 1.4 million college graduates since the dot-com collapse in 2001. The firm pointed to a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers which showed employers plan to hire 14.5 percent more new college graduates than a year ago. The survey also found higher starting salaries this year. Graduates with economic or finance degrees will see the biggest gain with starting salaries up 11 percent to $45,191, while accounting salaries are up 6.2 percent, business management salaries up 3.9 percent and pay for civil engineers 4.3 percent higher. But Challenger said graduates should not assume the improved labor market will guarantee everyone a job. "Even as demand and salaries rise, college students should not be lulled into thinking that the job search will be easy or that jobs will be handed to anyone with a degree," he warned. The U.S. unemployment rate rose to 4.8 percent in February from a 4-1/2-year low 4.7 percent in January, according to the U.S. Labor Department. Employers added 243,000 new payroll jobs in the month. http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=domesticNews&storyid=2006-03-20T163503Z_01_N20258421_RTRUKOC_0_US-ECONOMY-JOBS.xml&rpc=22 Hmmmm.......

That's cool. This morning I was thinking about how the job market is now versus the dot.com bust in 2001. There are positive indications of increasing capital investment in new technologies, which is a good thing.IP: Logged |

I wonder how this can be Pid? The political left has been badmouthing the economy for the last 5 years...when it's a roaring, booming economy for the last three. They've described the economy is terms of a depression, a troubled economy, a slow or slowing economy, a problem economy, an economy on the verge of collapse. I wonder what they know that the business community doesn't know? The business community which invests in equipment, in inventory, in infrastructure and in personnel. IP: Logged |

there's something that bothers me about this..the jobs..are all going in the same direction..that has brought us to this mess..what about Farms/agriculture..advancing technology that is Earth friendly..as work to improve our MOther Earth.. we have to re-verse in some ways..we can't continue to take take take..and not fix fix fix..and not replenish replenish replenish..the damage we have caused.. is it all about the high paying jobs? Is that more important? no offense to anyOne..just thinking with logic and my heart..hehe IP: Logged |

You have a point Lotus, but we keep killing our Agriculture industry. We have a contingent of people that believe ANY rancher, grower or farmer is making BILLIONS instead of the real truth, which is they are in debt and barely making enough to pay the bills and prepare for the next year. We keep pushing for globalization and shutting down our Ag so that we can be supplemented by China, Argentina and elsewhere.. We have too many people here yelling and screaming that a cow fart will decimate the ozone layer therefore we need to shut down the ranches so that China's cows can fart us into an ozone depletion. People don't understand that running farming out of the US may make a few things okay in their eyes, but that production just gets picked up by another country. Usually that country (Like CHINA) doesn't have the same strict rules we do in treating the cows / chicken...etc... or the pesticide restrictions on crops. So yeah, maybe we won't have any GMO's but hell, we can have a feast of dioxin flavored apples. Petron, your answer to just too snide without substance. I am sure that is because you have a penis. If you had a vagina you would know better. LMAO... (Just kidding dude ) Hell..I didn't even know that you were male. ~Pidaua IP: Logged |

Sue, if you want to play in the GU sandbox you might want to develop a sense of humor (just kidding - thick skin is more like it). What you write WILL get thrown back at you. I thought it was funny - and said it especially SINCE you apologized. Had you not done that, then the words would have still be mean-spirited.If people can make fun of the President to jwhop, why would you be exempt? I have had plenty of people throw back my words - or better yet, cut and paste only part of a sentence to make me look a certain way. It's the way it is and probably will be for a while. Some of the things that are off limits usually entail race, gender, sexual orientation and using someone astrology sign against them.
