Photos that damn Hezbollah
Chris Link

Article from: Sunday Herald Sun

THIS is the picture that damns Hezbollah.

Suburban warfare: Hezbollah fighters are ready for action in a residential area.

It is one of several, smuggled from behind Lebanon's battle lines, showing that Hezbollah is waging war amid suburbia.

The images, obtained exclusively by the Sunday Herald Sun, show Hezbollah using high-density residential areas as launch pads for rockets and heavy-calibre weapons.

Dressed in civilian clothing so they can quickly disappear, the militants carrying automatic assault rifles and ride in on trucks mounted with cannon.

The photographs, from the Christian area of Wadi Chahrour in the east of Beirut, were taken by a visiting journalist and smuggled out by a friend.

They emerged as:

US President George Bush called for an international force to be sent to Lebanon.

ISRAEL called up another 30,000 reserve troops.

THE UN's humanitarian chief Jan Egeland called for a three-day truce to evacuate civilians and transport food and water into cut-off areas.

US SECRETARY of State Condoleezza Rice returned to the Middle East to push a UN resolution aimed at ending the 18-day war, and:

A PALESTINIAN militant group said it had kidnapped, killed and burned an Israeli settler in the West Bank.

The images include one of a group of men and youths preparing to fire an anti-aircraft gun metres from an apartment block with sheets hanging out on a balcony to dry.

Others show a militant with AK47 rifle guarding no-go zones after Israeli blitzes.

On guard: A militant watches over a no-go zone.

Anti-aircraft gun: these pictures were taken by a visiting journalist and smuggled out by a friend.

Another depicts the remnants of a Hezbollah Katyusha rocket in the middle of a residential block blown up in an Israeli air attack.

The Melbourne man who smuggled the shots out of Beirut and did not wish to be named said he was less than 400m from the block when it was obliterated.

"Hezbollah came in to launch their rockets, then within minutes the area was blasted by Israeli jets," he said.

"Until the Hezbollah fighters arrived, it had not been touched by the Israelis. Then it was totally devastated.

"It was carnage. Two innocent people died in that incident, but it was so lucky it was not more."

The release of the images comes as Hezbollah faces criticism for allegedly using innocent civilians as "human shields".

Mr Egeland blasted Hezbollah as "cowards" for operating among civilians.

"When I was in Lebanon, in the Hezbollah heartland, I said Hezbollah must stop this cowardly blending in among women and children," he said.

It's not like they're doing this intentionally.

Where are they supposed to show themselves? Should these common people direct you to a field where they'll all be standing so you can just drop one huge bomb over them and be done with them?

Where are the battlefields in this war? This war is completely assymetrical, and highly favours Israel's side in great part to America arming them.

While it would make things a lot easier if they were just to "show" themselves, no, I don't think that's "expected", though it would be nice.

However, when they ARE hiding amoung civilians, and civilians die when Hezbollah is targeted, let's stop with the whining that they're killing civilians. It's ok if you wanna hide amoung civilians, just know that you are dooming them along with you. Don't act like, "OMG They Killed Kenny! B@stards!" about it.

Isis,

You are trying to reason with an unreasonable person. Those really aren't rocket launchers, they were innocent people on on horses until Israel doctored the pics to make them look like they were straddling a launcher.

These murderers hide behind women and children and then cry when they are killed. The saddest thing I watched was how hard Israel tried to get people out of those areas only to watch as the Hizbollah terrorists would fire off a round..then hide the launcher next to a school.

We call those people cowards. They are no more innocent than drug dealers that make meth or crack in a housing project or hotel around children.

DayDreamer will always have an excuse for the terrorists because she is brainwashed.

The democratic world believes that it is not the terrorists that are to blame, but us. Us, the westerners.
WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the sooner you eliminate this misconception from your minds, the better.
We are NOT to blame. It is the freaking terrorists and the freaking terrorists only!!!! They are the bad guys. They do not understand concepts like peace, democracy, and respect for human life. They are, pure and simPle, EVIL!!!!! Behind all their political manipulations, if you carefully look at the actions of these MONSTERS, they are EVIL!!

It's a dishonorable and sleazy tactic, but it works, doesn't it? It puts the enemy in a damned if they do/damned if they don't position. It might not be the best war strategy, but the Israelis should refrain if they know human shields are being used.

I can't, in good conscience, root for either team.

Poor Lebanon.

TINK,

I understand what you are saying and I'm not at all thrilled with the loss of human life.

The question is, what does one do when terrorists hide behind human shields? Let it go on, refuse to take action and allow the enemy to continue to hide behind humans until what? They march right into your embassy? We say those types of things occur when there was a rash of hijackings and no one would do anything but try to reason with the hijackers... until the US said NO MORE and began to kill those terrorists.

Hijackings went way down. Waaaaaay down.

How does one react when one is being attacked and their lives are in danger -but one cannot fight because the person firing on them is holding a baby?

I think all that can be done is being done with the phone calls, flyers and notification from Israel to the civilians instructing them to leave. But.. it doesn't change that fact that there is a loss of life.

So far Hizbollah has launched over 4000 bombs, but has killed only a slight number of Israelis. People think that means Israel is that bad guy because they were able to get their people out and the terrorist have incredibly bad aim. But what if each of those 4000 bombs hit their targets and killed the desired number of people?

Would we then think "poor Lebanon" or "poor Isreal"? Either way, a loss of life is still horrible.

That's a good question. My uncle was a cop. A cranky, hard-core, take no prisoners, sonofabitch, old time cop. I know what he would say. What would your father say?

I say "poor Lebanon" because they appear to be caught in the middle. Lebanon has ... for lack of a better phrase ... potential. I'm sure you see that. Lebanon, left to its own devices, has a cosmopolitan, liberal culture and a generally moderate nature. Remember the days when Beirut was called the Paris of the Mid East?

I sympathize with the Israeli position regarding Hezbollah. I sympathize with the Lebanese position regarding Hezbollah, as well.

I'm thinking the hijakings and kidnappings stopped because they weren't accomplishing their goals. They became, let's face it, boring old news that barely got our collective attention. The criminals had to up the ante. And they sure have our attention now, don't they?

Yep.. I know exactly what my Father would say and what he has done. He was in a situation where two of his fellow agents dropped their guns at the demand of some scumbag that was holding another agent hostage. Of course the scumbag was going to shoot them all - not realizing my father was around the corner sneaking up on him.

My dad ordered the guy to drop the weapon, he said NO.. move the gun to the agents head, my dad fired... getting the guy in the neck and paralyzing him.

He was livid that the other agents dropped their guns.. all of them would have been dead.

I do feel sorry for Lebanon...for the people stuck in the middle of a total crap sandwich. I wish there was another way.

No one should stop "whining" about civilian casualities. I think it's very sick that some people use the term "whining" when others cry out against the injustice that happens when innocent civilians are killed.

Not everyone can/could get out of the country...not everyone was a citizen of another country and had a free, immediate emergency ticket out of the there when the bombs started falling.

Hezbollah is not hiding behind babies and women's skirts. Most of the people who are still in Lebanon today, support Hezbollah, even if they may not be directly fighting with them, and that includes some of the resistance members' family, women and children. Should they be bombed on too? Do you believe those fighting with Hezbollah want their families and people killed?

This reasoning that Hezbollah is entirely/mostly to blame for civilian deaths is absurd.

I should ask, why didnt/dont the Israelis just bring in their troops, instead of mostly relying on air strikes, which mostly hit civilians and not militants, and try to fight them face to face, from the start?

I might add, Pid was acting a fifth reasonable today (not talking about the post where you call me brainwashed, but some of the later posts seem like some logic went into them) keep it up!

Yeah... DD.. take a look at what you're peace-loving, matyr Muslims are doing...

http://www.seconddraft.org/streaming/pallywood.wmv

Maybe they could stop faking 90% of what happens there and start owning up to the fact that they support terrorists and their wrong.

Let's see if you can stomach the truth.
http://newsbusters.org/node/6685

PS...DD... it came out- there is video tape of Hezbollah with the rocket launchers hiding behind homes..

It is also QUITE odd that only women and children were killed.... here's one theory..

"There are also questions as to why there were no men killed in the Qana building. And the lack of concrete dust and lack of blood on the victims they were dragging out of collapsed building. Sunday when it initially happened I first heard that the reason the victims were still in Qana was because the IAF had bombed all the roads out, but then the rescuers and journalists had no problem getting in to Qana. There're a lot of questions."

Wow..... I wonder... how much of this was actually orchestrated by Hezbollah? Did THEY KILL the women and children and blame it on Israel?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Unless they are Western or Isreali civilians. That's not injustice, it's "karma", and calls for a rousing rendition of the Happy Dance.

You are showing only one side.

Israeli bombing kills 54 in Qana, Lebanon

Israel said it mistakenly bombed a building near a Hezbollah rocket-launching site in Qana, Lebanon, on Sunday where at least 54 people died, including 19 children. The Red Cross said the Qana airstrikes hit a residential building for refugees, which Israel said was near Hezbollah rocket launching sites. More than 54 bodies were pulled from the building’s remains.

In an emergency session of the U.N. Security Council on Sunday, Secretary-General Kofi Annan called for an end to the conflict. "We must condemn this action in the strongest possible terms," said Annan. "I am deeply dismayed that my earlier calls for immediate cessation of hostilities were not heeded, with the result that innocent life continues to be taken and innocent civilians continue to suffer. I repeat that call once again."

Let me remind you TP and all the other airhead twits...that this outbreak of violence started because Hamas and their related terrorist organization have been sending suicide bombers into Israel and firing unguided rockets into Israel to blow up civilians...including women and children...especially women and children. The final straw was the capture of an Israeli soldier...inside Israel proper.

It was expanded when Hezbollah entered into a sovereign nation across an international border, killed Israeli soldiers and captured 2. Since that time, Hezbollah has fired more than 2000 unguided rockets into Israel from Lebanon. These are terror weapons pure and simple. They fall where they fall and are not directed at military installations. They kill innocent civilians...including women and children.

Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and indeed all Islamic terrorists hide behind women and children to launch their attacks.

According to your rhetoric, Israeli is supposed to suffer these acts of war, suffer the death of their civilians...including their children in silence and with inaction to put a stop to it.

Your phony compassion for the death of children doesn't extend to the death of Israeli children and as such, it's entirely a talking point that you and the rest of the phony compassionate set can take and shove up the most convenient orifice.
