I have never proclaimed to be innocent in calling names or calling a spade a spade. Unlike you, I have the ability to admit it rather than playing your victim game and crying foul when the heat is turned up.

I have yet to make an insinuation about someone's government workplace, their husband being abusive or what was it about wishing my abusive ex-was here when it was needed (basically to put me in place). Bear brought that lovely gem to my attention.

You are a slippery person that uses innuendo to make vicious points, but later backtracks (much like John Kerry- it was just a botched joke) and cries "no, I didn't mean it that way" only to betray yourself with a post that states exactly what I knew you meant - such as the office with a window, my having the luxury to post at work and my believing I am better for my "elevated" position as you called it.

You can try and squirm your way out of your slanderous and vindictive nature, but most of us see you for what you are. You have not only reserved your name calling, accusations and insinuations for me, but you also brought my husband into it when you referred to his friend wearing a Che shirt and applying that to somehow demean who my husband chooses to call friend / colleague.

In fact, it was on that thread that you really embarrassed yourself with your obsessive behaviour and inability to realize how irrational your posts were regarding my husbands fellow Soldier. You insinuated that HE should be in Iraq or that he was not serving his purpose... or how did you put it "must be nice for him to sit in his air-conditioned office" rather than being in Iraq.

So before you get on your self-righteous high horse, look at your own writing style and the venom filled posts you have deposited throughout this forum. Instead of being like a few other delusioned folks here, accept responsibility for your actions and don't blame them on someone else.

- Permanent Genocide -

It has been recognized in imperial circles since the emergence of the Golden Renaissance that the greatest threat to any empire is the progressive renaissance development of society. This fact became glaringly obvious when the Venetian Empire, the slave trader and looter of the old world was threatened with extinction by the Renaissance powers of Europe. The League of Cambrai (1508) was created for this purpose, but before it succeeded, the Pope intervened (probably with a significant 'incentive' from Venice) and the Venetian Empire was saved. In retaliation the Venetian Empire destroyed the Renaissance by festering a religious war that lasted for over 100 years in which nearly half the population of Europe perished. The end-phase of it, the Thirty Years War, was said to have been the worst military escapade prior to the 20th Century.

That process of unleashing genocide to protect empires would be repeated many times thereafter. It was concealed at first by the doctrine that the Earth is too full, for which it was said the human population needs to be culled like cattle. This doctrine was 'forged' in Venice by the Venetian 'monk' Giammaria Ortes (1713-1790).

It is suggested by scholars that Ortes was plagiarized by parson Thomas Malthus (1766-1834) who preached that the general population in society should be forced to live under such unsanitary and deplorable conditions that most people would die off at an early age. Later, Charles Darwin (1809-1882) said that he was inspired by Malthus. Darwin's cousin, in turn, Francis Galton (1822-1911), reformulated the Malthusian idea and partially merged merged it with social Darwinism into what became the Eugenics theory that opened the floodgates to the sterilization of targeted people. Adolf Hitler must have loved him.

In a similar fashion did covert agents of the British Empire destroy the emerging renaissance spirit in Europe by staging the French Revolution with the Jacobin terror operation raging in the background by which the renaissance intellectual elite in France was systematically eradicated. Napoleon then spread the terror process across much of Western Europe. From this background the modern form of imperial fascism emerged that became the driving force behind all the genocidal wars in modern history, especially World War II.

Genocide was also practiced in distant India, beginning in distant times, to enable the imperial control over India by a small minority of Arian invaders. In this case religion was merged with mythology by the ruling invaders (the Brahmin) and was used to 'force' the large scale eradication of girls and women, including female genocide. The process of religion-mandated sexual genocide extended across many centuries from 1500 BC on, and it still continues to some small degree. The link to Bertrand Russell (1872-1970), and his followers

In modern times the genocidal policy of intentions became less focused on any specific sex or races or nations. The old overpopulation-doctrine was dredged up again and applied universally. This latest phase appears to have been started by the imperial advocate, Bertrand Russell, who had previously argued for the development of the atomic bomb as a weapon so horrific that it would force all nations to surrender their sovereignty into the governing hands of a global world-empire. Since this atomic-bomb plan didn't work out, Bertrand Russell changed his focus back onto Ortes' overpopulation theme and argued for radical depopulation, worldwide.

He complained in the early 1950s that wars, even big wars, have done too little in terms of killing people. "War, so far, has had no very great effect... (War) has been disappointing... but perhaps biological war may be more effective," he wrote. He argued that a new Black Death should sweep the world once in every generation, and added, "The state of affairs may be somewhat unpleasant, by what of it? Really high-minded people are indifferent to happiness, especially other people's." (see: Russell: The Impact of Science Upon Society, NY, Simon and Schuster, 1953 pp. 102-104)

AIDS might have had its origin in that kind of background. It erupted in 1981 from the human swamp of a starvation ravaged Africa (imposed by policy). Since AIDS may have been deemed to be also 'insufficient and disappointing' to meet the hopes of the imperial circles, a new form of warfare was developed. Once the Soviet Union was shut down the world's newest atomic weapon, the depleted uranium weapon, was quietly put on the agenda. The depleted uranium weapon has now been fully war-tested in Iraq, Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan, and proven to be powerfully effective. It appears to be presently staged to become implemented in earnest with 50-fold increased intensity.

With this new weapon, a weapon that keeps on killing and never stops, since the radioactive uranium particles will remain in the environment forever, Bertrand Russell's fondest hopes for permanent genocide might soon become a reality.

Unfortunately, Bertrand Russell was not alone in his dreaming of implementing permanent genocide. Prince Philip of the British Royal Court has stated in his foreword to a book (People as Animals by Fleur Cowles, - UK, Robin Clark Ltd. 1986) that if it was possible to be reincarnated, he would be "tempted to ask for reincarnation as a particularly deadly virus" in order to be able to contribute to the world-depopulation.

We have seen a lot of hype forthcoming in recent decades from the imperial field in the form of ever greater depopulation demands, including in America. In the infamous Global 2000 report that was fielded in the background to the Jimmy Carter administration, radical depopulation was 'demanded' in the order of billions of people. Even the UN Organization was deeply involved in the depopulation agenda when it organized two major depopulation world conference events, starting with the United Nations World Population Conference in Bucharest in 1974, and the repeat show in Cairo in September 1994 where population reduction was demanded to be enforced by sanctions. President Clinton put some cold water on that demand, but the idea remains.

In some other cases from various imperial backgrounds it was demanded over time that the world population be reduced to less than a billion people. From the same imperial background also the infamous banner headlines emerged, actually quite early arready, in the late-1960s, that proclaimed that the Earth has cancer, and that this cancer is man. The planned massive increase in generating atmospheric depleted uranium must be seen in this context. When it is seen in any other context the 50-fold increase in the planned DU-use makes absolutely no sense (not that genocide ever makes sense).

The synarchist imperial background of the Neocons administration in our modern USA, which has become deeply committed to imperial fascism, is by this connection also deeply committed to implement the depleted uranium weapons policy and the policy of the massive increase of it in the planned new wars. That is why it is so crucial for the future existence of humanity to break the chain of the Neocon power and rescue America from its role as an imperial agent for destroying the world (and itself in the process).

The current LaRouche warning

Right now the situation is critical. The breakout to a new war is close at hand. Four aircraft carrier groups are already in position to hit Iran, or will be there any day now (although the French one might be leaving). All that is required now, is for someone to light the fuse. The American economist Lyndon LaRouche warns that the current intention might be to start a major terrorist event in Germany during the June-July World Cup Soccer tournament that can serve as a spark to light the fuse for war. LaRouche's warning is thus cast across the world to prevent this possibility. If the intention for a terrorist act is made widely known the event might not be carried out, and so, war might be prevented for another 'moment.' The globally expanding 'permanent genocide'

The planned mass bombing of Iran with a slowly spreading permanent poison has an eerie quality of irreversible permanence that affects the whole world.

The permanent effect of this poison reminds one of the method with which the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF) was 'decommissioned' recently in the state of Washington. America's billion dollar research facility for advanced nuclear power development and medical application of radioisotopes, which appears to have been the leading facility of its type in the world, was not just simply deactivated. It was permanently destroyed by drilling a large hole in its reactor vessel so that that the facility can never be reactivated. Thus, the leading edge facility that had been created with a promise for a brighter future was transformed in a single day from a national asset of great value into a 2-billion dollar cleanup liability (that some contractors no doubt will make a killing on).

We see the same trend towards permanent destruction unfolding with financier orchestrated dismantling of the U.S. auto, aerospace, and machine tool industries. The workers are put on the scrap heap. The production machinery is put on the auction block for pennies on the dollar of replacement value. The empty buildings are turned into amusement parks and so on. The damage that is thereby done is final, like a great building that is blown up with a nuclear bomb. There is a finality about these kind of insane actions. It's like a soldier shooting a man in the head. The damage cannot be reversed. It is the same with the DU-poisoning of the world. Once the radioactive particles are dispersed throughout the world they cannot be collected up. They are there to stay and they will keep on killing.

World War II was a clean war. When the war ended the killing stopped. That is no longer the case with the DU-wars. The killing continues when the war ends.

The question has been asked why America would dump this deadly pollution into foreign lands when the pollution blows back to America itself?

It doesn't make any sense to do this, does it? However, apart from the fact that war never makes sense, there is a reason behind the madness. The reason is the same for which America's industrial capacity is being rapidly destroyed and auctioned off. The reason is, and that seems hard to accept, that the USA has always been a thorn in the eyes of the imperial crowd ever since it was created. For as long as the USA existed the imperial circles of Europe have maintained a policy of intention to destroy the USA. The productive renaissance spirit that made America a great nation several times in its history, and the envy of the world, has been under attack many times since the nation was founded. The attacks were not only waged on the battle fields, but also culturally, and were cutting deep. But they never succeeded until now.

Now that it has become possible to run the attacks to destroy the USA from within with impunity. The complete destruction of the USA has yet be accomplished, but there is a powerful movement operating in high places to achieve that objective.

The hidden destruction of the population of the USA with countless slow acting DU-consequences is evidently a factor in the imperial war to eliminate the USA as a sovereign renaissance nation. The fact that the destruction of the USA is orchestrated directly from the old European imperial background is evident by the fascist background of the top people of the American leadership, who presently orchestrate the destruction of the USA's productive industries. Ironically, the American society is not committed to any meaningful efforts to stop the destruction of America, which people are told has become the new imperial world order. The DU-poisoning of the world falls perfectly within this framework, especially the blowback effect that brings a significant portion of the poison back to America. It is the permanent nature, the irreversible consequences of the DU-bombing that should inspire the whole of mankind to see itself in the same light - as a target for destruction -, and thus cause it to stop the planned war against Iraq by all means possible. Nothing less than a full termination of war is required, because once the next war starts and the millions of DU-bombs evaporate their content into the atmosphere and the environment, the resulting, potentially 50-fold damage, cannot be reversed. Then the deed is done. What is done in the theatre of global uranium poisoning cannot be undone.

If mankind fails in protecting itself by shutting down war, and war starts anew, a few of the high-minded imperials will then no doubt celebrate the massive bombing event with Champaign and cheers, while humanity slowly dies.

Let us hope that our love for ourselves and one-another, and all that is human, is sufficiently wide and universal to cause us to act with all the resources of our humanity to prevent the planned doom. For millennia the human society has created institutions for war and sacrificed itself to them. The time has come to step up to higher ground and create institutions for peace and for human development beyond anything we have ever seen before, which we are capable of creating as human beings. The 1648 Treaty of Westphalia is a faint example of what can be accomplished for peace. After hundred years of war in which nearly half the population of Europe was killed society turned to a new page in 1648 and resolutely 'sacrificed' everything related to war for peace. Peace became the pearl of great value that superseded everything. That process became the foundation for modern civilization. It can be rebuild.

War is never inevitable, only peace is inevitable. When the nations that make war have exhausted their resources, peace always resumes. So it has been throughout time and will be for as long wars are unleashed. Thus, only one type of question remains to be asked today: Will the peace that resumes in our age be a silent peace without a human voice to be heard? The potential exists. Or will the resuming peace be an active peace, rich and alive with the sounds of joy? These are questions that should be on the table today.

Depleted Uranium Wars,

the Ultimate Crime Against Humanity

The 9/11 event triggered the 'war of liberation' for Afghanistan and Iraq. And what a liberation resulted from those wars. For many it became a liberation by death. Apart from the war-deaths and the countless wounded and civilian deaths, Afghanistan was 'liberated' to become once again the number one supplier of heroin in the world at a tune of 5000 tons annually. Heroin kills too in many ways, and it is killing Afghanis as well.

Nevertheless, the worst killer that came out of Afghanistan, as the public begins to recognize, is a less visible killer that was silently spread across the world in the form of depleted-uranium nano-particles. And those are particles that no one can see. Some are smaller in size than the wavelength of light that carried in the air with the physical characteristic that is typical for the dispersion of a gas. Those minuscule radioactive particles have never existed in the natural environment until now. And now they are everywhere. According to conservative estimates as total mass of 2.8 million kilograms of uranium has been vaporized in DU-weapons and become a part of the world in which we live, where it remains radioactive 'forever.' Some suggest that real figure is probably twice as high. Thus the whole way of looking at the evidence changes. In the depleted uranium war against mankind we will never see any smoking-gun physical evidence as we see it to some degree in the 9/11 theatre. We can only see the result from the DU-poisoning in the world as it effects people in the form of birth defects, cancers, and a vast array of chronic illnesses that are historically not normal. In some cases it takes years for the evidence to emerge. In Basra (Iraq) it was said that people's grapes and vegetables in their gardens had mutated and could no longer be eaten, and the same was observed in fish from the river. Obviously a new type of exploration is required that corresponds with these radically different parameters that are involved, before the truth is fully known. (see: The US Military Is In DU Denial.)

The modern big increase in the dumping of radioactive uranium into the environment, which 'depleted uranium' (DU) is, began with the Tora Bora bombing in Afghanistan in 2002. The 15,000 pound 'fuel-air' bombs that were used in Afghanistan to crack underground bunkers, utilized uranium oxide as fuel that burns in the air at temperatures between 10-20,000 degrees Celsius. They were called the 'daisy cutters,' because their intense deadly fire typically spread over a wide area in the shape of a daisy. The immense air pressure from this enormously intense fire kills everyone in its range and collapses buildings and ever underground structures while the uranium itself vaporises into sub microscopic particles that are dispersed into the air and carried around the world with the winds. An estimated 800,000 Kg of uranium was vaporized in this manner in Afghanistan, the equivalent in alpha emitters to 160,000 modern nuclear bombs. The evaporation of this massive amount of uranium into fine particles that are dumped into the environment, with some of it being carried around the world, is typical for all depleted uranium type munitions and bombs. Close to two million kilograms of DU was used in Iraq where the human suffering and death toll has been most intense.

According to evidence that the public presents on the Internet, the resulting wave of uranium dust from the Tora Bora bombing, for example, was registered as far away as England at the Aldermaston monitoring station. Thus with the introduction of depleted uranium (DU) into a wide range of weaponry a new page of history was opened up that became uglier with each new wave of DU-poisoning being added to the wave of death that began with the DU-poisoning of the environment during the First Iraq War in 1991. The resulting effects from this growing mass-poisoning of our planet are gradually beginning to unfold.

In summary, the term 'DU' stands for 'depleted uranium.' The term is used as a deception. For weapons purposes and in terms of it deadly effects there this nothing depleted about it.

The so-called 'depleted uranium' is depleted only in terms of its usefulness for making atom bombs or power-reactor fuel. Depleted uranium has 40% to 50% of its fissionable component removed that is essential for bombs and for nuclear power reactors. In any other respect the so-called depleted uranium has lost none of its qualities, including its deadly qualities in the form of alpha radiation that is inherent in all forms of uranium.

Natural uranium contains 99.3% of the non-fissionable form of uranium U238, and 0.7% of the fissionable isotope U235. The 0.7% of U235 provides neutron radiation that is rich enough in the natural concentration to power a nuclear power reactors moderated by heavy water or graphite. Modern light water reactors, however, which are are more efficient and less expensive to build, require enriched fuel in the 3% range of U235 concentration. The residue of the enrichment process to produce this fuel is called 'depleted uranium.' (Bombs require a much higher concentration, but uranium bombs are rarely used anymore in nuclear weapons. Plutonium is a more 'ideal' fission material for nuclear weapons.)

In principle 'depleted uranium' consists of 99.7% of uranium U238, a powerful emitter of alpha radiation that causes biological damage, and 0.3% of the fissionable U235 that is of negligible significance as a neutron emitter. The reduced amount of the fissionable U235 in DU makes the DU a waste product for the nuclear-power industry. This waste product could be converted back into to useful fuel in a fast breeder reactor. The fast breeder reactors, however, appear to have been banned for political reasons since every major component of the fast breeder program has been shut down. Thus, by shutting the fast breeder program down, the potential resource that it would use has become a waste product that has become a major storage liability for the industry, which makes is dirt-cheap for weapons production.

In the current political environment the enriched reactor fuel that the nuclear power industry requires is produced by separating the fissionable U235 out from either natural uranium or from from the uranium of spent reactor fuel in which the U235 concentration has dropped below a certain threshold. In both cases, what is left over is called, depleted uranium. In practice the DU that is used to enhance munitions and the (non-nuclear) uranium-enhanced bombs comes from spent reactor fuel. As such, the DU typically contains some of the fission by-products that makes radioactive waste a storage liability. For military purposes, however, that doesn't matter since all types of depleted uranium are equally as efficient. In either case the physical properties of the uranium metal remains the same, which is the chief factor for which uranium is used in non-nuclear weapons and bombs, the kind that were commonly used in the Second Iraq War, which were essentially 'dirty' bombs.

Depleted uranium (DU) is ideal in military applications for two physical properties that are unique to uranium as a metal. One is that the metal it is extremely heavy and extremely dense. It is thereby able to penetrate the armor of tanks or thick concrete like cutting through a block of butter with a hot knife. And it really does become a hot knife. That's the other quality for which DU is used by the military. Uranium is extremely flammable at high temperatures. On impact the uranium metal heats up and then explodes. The impact friction heats the uranium so intensely that the metal becomes flammable and burns up in an extremely high temperature explosion. The resulting heat is said to be so fierce that some children that were playing near a tank that was hit had their clothes and skin burnt off instantly. Of course the 'enemy' soldiers inside the tank suffered the same fate. The Americans soldiers called them, 'crispy critters.'

Sadly, that is how we loose our humanity.

What we call war has now drifted far into the range of insanity and inhumanity. And this is probably intended. The physical effects of the DU-use qualify the conduct of this war for this description of insanity. But the DU story doesn't end there. There is a side effect associated with exploding uranium that is still worse in its effect. The superheated uranium that explodes into a fierce fire in the range of 5-10,000 degrees C., and up to near 20,000 degrees is special cases. The uranium vaporizes in the process of burning at these enormously high temperatures. As it vaporized it forms an invisible dust of superfine nano-sized particles. Half of the particles, by volume, that result from a DU explosion are so fine that they are smaller in size than the wavelength of light, and more than 30% are said to be substantially smaller than that (smaller than 0.18 microns - see table of particle sizes). They are so small that they disperse in the air like a gas. Being smaller than the wavelength of light, the vaporized DU-gas particles literally vanish from sight. Nevertheless they remain radioactive with a half-life of 4.5 billion years. (see article on the discovery of radiation and the transmutation of elements)

Since the the radioactive nano-sized particles of uranium behave like a gas, they are easily carried with the air currents over long distances. The larger particles, of course, get eventually rained out or settle locally onto the ground where they become a part of the environment in which people live and work. They also get into the water, and become a part of the food that people eat. We really don't know for how long the minuscule particles remain suspended and in the air and the environment before they become washed out into the oceans.

The small particles that remain suspended in the air become a part of the air and are inhaled with the air (typically a minimum of 50,000 particles a day). Once inside a person the minuscule particles, in some cases, become absorbed into the cells of the human body or become trapped otherwise, where they do their damage. The nano-particles of insoluble uranium oxide can be as small as 1/10,000 the diameter of a red blood cell. They are most certainly small enough to elude the filtering celia in a person's air passages and then become lodge in the lungs, even the deepest lung sacs.

In fact, the trapped particles can cause enormous damage. They act like miniature cannons that fire off high energy particles at a rate of 12,000 shots per second that can wreck the DNA chains by blasting links out of them or damage links, etc, or they can cause chemical changes in cells, or injure the human cells in many other ways. Scientist and radiation expert Dr. Rosalie Bertell testified, “DU is a very powerful alpha particle emitter, with each particle carrying a force of about 4.2 MeV (million electron volts). It requires only 6 to 10 eV (electron volts) to break the DNA or other large molecules in the body.” Then, if a cell is damaged by DU-radiation, pray that the radiation has killed it outright, because if it survives in its damaged state and is still able to reproduce, that cell would no longer be fit as a team player in the body's organization, and like a fungus would replicate itself without restraint and become a parasite, a cancer that exists and grows without a purpose until it disrupts the organization in the body so severely that the person dies. The biological damage that is inflicted by uranium is caused by two types of radiation. The typical DU particles emit both Alpha and Beta radiation.

The Alpha radiation comes almost exclusively from the non-fissionable uranium U238 that makes up the bulk of the DU in the 95% range or higher. Alpha radiation can also come from plutonium-239 and the highly exotic americium-241, which may all be present in minute quantities as fission products if the DU is produced from spent reactor fuel. The Beta radiation in DU comes exclusively from fission by-products.

The two types of radiation are radically different from each other.

Alpha radiation doesn't penetrate far. A couple of inches of air will stop it, or a heavy piece of paper. Nevertheless the short-range penetration is sufficient to cause great damage in the miniature environment of the human cell or a whole lot of them. Alpha radiation is a type of radiation that emits nucleonic clusters made up of 2 protons and 2 neutrons. The clusters are ejected from the core of the radiating atom with a velocity equal to 1/20th the speed of light. The biological damage that even the tiniest speck of an alpha emitter can cause, becomes soon large enough that it can be seen visibly. In the human lung tissue alpha-damaged cells typically appear in star like clusters as shown on one of the websites. The damaged (altered) cells are subsequently replicated. They typically spread throughout the body since they don't belong to any specific function and multiply without control as no function controls them. If the DU gets into the blood stream and subsequently gets stuck in some of the most sensitive parts of the body, almost anything can thereby become effected. The end result is the development of a large array of biologic failures including diabetes, leukemia, lung cancers, teen age breast cancers, and stomach cancers in boys, and so on. Over 90 different diseases have so far been attributed to DU-radiation (both Alpha and Beta Radiation). In some cases persons are diagnosed to suffer from several different types cancers simultaneously, or entire families being simultaneously infected, as un the case of a family of nine. Bata radiation is radically different that alpha radiation. Beta radiation emits high energy electrons from the surrounding sphere of the emitting atom. The electrons are infinitesimally minute in mass (one trillionth the mass of a neutron), but the high energy with which they are ejected in terms of speed causes considerable harm to living cells. Beta radiation is a high energy radiation that penetrates much farther than alpha radiation does. Nevertheless, a barrier of 3mm of aluminium can stop it. Beta radiation is causing major damage biological damage by breaking down chemical bonds and creating disruptive ions with their electrical energy. The effects of Beta radiation are typically chronic illnesses that are developing over long periods in the range of 5-30 years, including cancers.

In rare cases as third type of radiation, gamma radiation is also present in DU in minute amounts. Gamma radiation consists of high energy photons that have enormous penetrating power. A centimetre of led cannot stop it. Thick lead shielding is typically required just to attenuate the radiation.

A Geiger counter can detect all three types of radiation. However, the alpha radiation inside the human body, which makes up over 95% of all DU-radiation, will decay long before it can reach a counter. The internal radiation that is lodged inside a person's body is therefore not measurable.

Because of their small size of the airborne DU particles, smaller than the wavelength of light, and their extremely low density in the air, the airborne presence of uranium requires elaborate processes for detection, even though a single nano-particle of uranium is theoretically sufficient to cause a deadly cancer if it enters the lungs, etc..

However, the DU story doesn't end here. It gets still worse. If the nano-particles of uranium get into the blood stream and create DNA-defects in the reproductive system, then the human blue-print may become gradually alerted. The resulting birth defects that have been observed so far are varied, but often dramatic. They are mostly too horrible to describe, with such ghastly effects as growing tumour instead of eyes, or intestines growing outside the body, and so forth. In Iraq, over a ten-year period following the First Iraq War birth defects increased ten-fold over the natural frequency, and cancers increased twenty-fold and in recent years thirty-fold. Accurate comparable figures are not available for the Second Iraq War in which over five times as much DU was dumped onto the country, and much of that in the cities in the form of bombs. Against this background the thirty-fold increase in lung cancers is probably a conservative figure. When all is told, the actual increase in the cancer rate in Iraq, resulting from the DU-bombing (that is till going on) might be a hundred-fold.

In comparison with the Iraqi experience, the six-fold increase that is being reported for U.S. lung cancer rate is not astonishing, but might be just the beginning and might be echoed in other types of cancer as well. While we might not see the fifty-fold increase in America that Iraq experienced (that would add eight million annually to the list of cancer patients), we will most likely still see a major increase above the near-one-million per year that has already been observed.

The sad reality is that some people say that the Iraqi deserve what they are getting, because they are an enemy, and an enemy deserves to die, so that the DU-bombing may continue. Most likely many in the Muslim world are saying the same about the unfolding tragedy in America. And so, mankind is truly loosing its humanity as human beings. No one deserves to die. No one deserves war. War is a tragedy that is 'eating' humanity. War has become obsolete with the advent of DU-weaponry. The purpose of war is to destroy and kill human beings. The DU-weaponry is super-efficient for this purpose as the former US military researcher tells Gay Alcorn explains. It kills people indiscriminately over long distances as its DU-poison is carried by the wind. The military made it clear they won't give it up, regardless of the worldwide health consequences, because the mission of war is to destroy and kill, so, let's hide the secondary effects. The DU-weapon is as efficient for the purpose of war as any atomic bomb. It is in effect a nuclear weapon without the nuclear explosive. It is a weapon of mass destruction that kills quietly and slowly and continuously for all times, and what is more ideal about it for the military than that is the slow kill-rate that makes the DU-wars it politically acceptable. The DU-weapons are for all intents the ultimate weapon, except for the one glitch that mankind cannot live with the consequences. Certainly the world's children deserve better than having to live a personally poisoned radioactive environment, even if the present society doesn't care.

The imperials most likely have also their own cause for celebrating as the rising human toll is putting any thought of creating a new renaissance further and further out of sight. And more than that, the potential long term death toll is powerfully advancing the imperial's world-depopulation project that has been on the imperial front-burner for almost two centuries since the time of Thomas Malthus. Of course since the imperials and their Neocon stooges control the global 'show' almost totally the mounting wave of horror that flows out of the modern DU-war-zones continues unabated, with vastly more in the planning stage as the stockpiling (pre-positioning) of 2.7 million DU-bombs in South Korea indicates. And what is worse than the increasing cancer-rate, etc., in this escalation of insanity, is that mankind is thereby beginning to loose the DNA blueprint of itself as a species. It is being suggested by some concerned people who are raising this particular alarm flag on the Internet, that Iraq has already been so deeply polluted with two-million kilograms of uranium having been pulverized over its territory that the whole county, or large portions of it, should be deemed technically unfit for human habitation. Nevertheless, people still live there, though not without the dire consequences of living in a basically uninhabitable environment. The sad reality is that Iraq, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan are essentially no longer suitable for human habitation, and therefore uninhabitable. (See: Depleted Uranium is WMD)

This horrific assessment that the public presents on the Internet in respect to the DU-poisoning of our planet might well be true. It might even be an understatement if one considers that the resulting DNA damage typically becomes accumulative over time so that the population in a heavily infected region will eventually die out if it remains in that environment. The resulting trend could have tragic consequences for the whole of mankind.

The radioactivity of uranium has a half-life of 4.5 billion years. In practical terms that's forever. We don't know yet what the long term practical effects of the global poisoning will be, but we do know that the effects observed so far have already become too ghastly to contemplate.

The effects of DU-poisoning from short-term exposure that were experienced by soldiers serving in Iraq hint at things to come. The brief exposure of the soldiers serving in the First Iraq War has put over 300,000 of them on permanent disability before the year 2000. That figure now exceeds 500,000. Some returning soldiers have secondarily 'polluted' their wives or girlfriends through intercourse, without being aware of it, and this in some cases so severely that hysterectomy became necessary to save the affected women's life. Thousands of poisoned veterans apparently also committed suicide as their life had been too deeply destroyed that made living unbearable. Apparently the situation is worse in Iraq itself as the real conditions filter out into the open by the "scuttlebutts" that tell their stories. (see: Is Doomsday Coming For U.S. Forces In Iraq?)

However, the DU-exposure doesn't remain contained in Iraq. The DU nano-particles are carried with the winds across the world and have polluted the global environment. DU-fallout from the Tora Bora bombing in Afghanistan had been registered in far away England. The same has occurred from the much larger fallout that originated with the 'Shock and Awe' bombing of Iraq in March 2003.

It is suggested by the public on the Internet that the DU-poisoning has already severely blanketed most of the USA. The evidence for that appears to be just beginning to unfold. It was reported on CNN on March, 8, 2006 that a six-fold increase in lung cancer has been experienced in the US for the first two month of 2006. The historic yearly average of 175,000 new cases had been reached by the end of February with 172,000 new cases diagnosed. In terms of the timing of this large increase in new lung cancers in the U.S., the increase falls within the two to five year time-span that has been observed for the development of lung cancer if one starts counting backwards. That takes us to the Tora Bora bombing in Afghanistan in October 2002, and the 'Shock and Awe' bombing in Iraq five months later. This unfolding horror show might also be intended as a slowly dying society becomes less like a force for universal economic development that would threaten empires. The DU-war might be a war for the crippling of mankind and its potential to create a new renaissance on this planet.

The meteorological mechanism certainly does exists for the DU pollutants from the battlefields in South Asia to reach America (first and foremost). The battlefield output falls within the northern Hadley Band of the Intertropical Convergence Zone in which the tropical trade winds occur. On the American continent the DU pollutants are subsequently carried northward from the intertropical zone by the polar anticyclone that flows out of northern Canada into the Gulf of Mexico and then returns northward across the U.S. Atlantic region where most of the US population is concentrated, and from there partially across the Atlantic back to the arctic in a continuous circular pattern. Another path for the fallout to reach America from the battle fields in South Asia is provided by the northern jet streams that carry the fallout from South Asia directly into the USA coming in from the West,

The massive increase in lung cancers that has bee observed may be due to the DU-pollution that became concentrated in the USA since the major DU-bombing campaigns began, especially since the "Shock and Awe" bombing. The six-fold increase in U.S. lung cancers that has been reported on CNN (March 8th, 2006) is not likely caused by "increased smoking" and other conventional causes, but reflects what its known abut the highly unconventional cancer effects of DU-poisoning.

While low-level background radiation has been a part of the environment of our planet for as long as the planet has existed, the pulverization of uranium into fine particles in the 100 nanometre range and less has added a whole new dimension -- a different kind of dimension -- to the low-level planet-wide background radiation. The entire crust of the Earth has always been a natural nuclear fission 'reactor' that contributes presently 33 kilojoules of thermal energy per year per square metre of the surface of the Earth to its warmth, (reduced over 4.5 billion years of radioactive decay from 117 kj/sqm/yr. -- See: Zbigniew Jaworowski).

The human biology has efficient defensive processes to deal with natural uranium and other natural radioactive particles. The modern nuclear power reactors are a concentrated extension of this natural fission process. The nuclear power industry therefore produces in essence no new types of radioactive hazards, and with proper handling the hazards that are produced can be contained. In fact, the resulting waste products can be recycled into new fuel and the highly concentrated radioactive waste be burnt up in the same reactor. Compared with the large scale health hazards that are associated with any other thermal plant for producing electricity and process heat, the modern nuclear plants are essentially the safest and cleanest power plants ever built.

The same cannot be said about nuclear weapons, especially the depleted uranium weapons, the dirtiest of the dirty bombs. It's the minuscule particle size produced by the DU-weapon that the human body has no defective defences against. And that is the difference that makes a world of difference in the biological sphere. All low-level background radiation is not the same! Some day this difference will be recognized. With DU particles as small as 1/10,000 the size a red blood cell the 'DU-invaders' find the door to the body almost totally unprotected. Also the invading pollutants are small enough so that they don't necessarily kill the cells that they become lodged in or nearby, but tend to just damage them, especially their DNA structures. It's from from the damaged cells that cancers develop.

It is impossible of course, at this stage, to forecast any future trends in the global cancer picture, but the public's reaction on the Internet to what is already happening is beginning to unfold -- slowly as this unfolding may be compared to the magnitude of the problem. Some people find the already existing increase of potentially one-million cases of lung cancer per year quite alarming, especially since the care-infrastructure no longer exists that could provide treatment for this rapid increase in seriously sick people.

It also appears that the growing sense of alarm reflects a growing uncertainty about the whole DU-cancer issue for the lack of honest reporting. Honesty goes out the window when truth becomes classified as a national security secret. It might well be that the DU-poisoning, and the enormous health problem that results, is a staged event to give the nuclear power industry a bad image in a future smear campaign in order that might be conjured up to shut down nuclear power on the planet completely. So far, every scare campaign that has been staged to shut down nuclear power on the planet has failed. The scare campaigns failed mostly due to the high safety record that is inherent in the modern nuclear power industry, and also because of the world's growing need for a new power resource.

While the DU-hazards have fundamentally no relationship to potential nuclear-power hazards, the DU-hazards might be used as an excuse to shut the nuclear power industry down on which mankind's future depends. The vast majority of mankind could not exist on this planet without large scale power production. Power production is the key to everything that we regard as civilization. From efficient agriculture to the dinner table our civilization is an energy intensive process. To advance civilization, especially towards an Ice Age Renaissance with indoor agriculture, more advanced energy production is a key requirement. Sine we are presently in a neo-feudalist age in which any new renaissance is feared, it is not surprising that one sees nuclear power and anything that is related, being sabotaged and turned into villain. There certainly is no better way imaginable to vilify the nuclear power industry than to have it stop recycling its waste products and to make it's waste available to the military to dump it into the environment in vast quantities in the most finely pulverized form that spreads across the world. Of course that's presently not classified as a hazard.

It appears to have been the historic practice of any fascist war administration to treat the truth that it wants to conceal from the public as a national security secret . This means that the field is wide open today to speculation, and also to fear as to how deeply the DU-pollution has already penetrated the American home ground. We are officially treated with lies, such as, 'DU-is harmless,' while the evidence is in the opposite and is already too horrific for words to describe it. Thus one can only speculate therefore, whether the six-fold increase in lung cancer that has been observed is merely a spike on the long term horizon, or the start of an up-ramp.

Doesn't the public have a right know how many more people might have been infected, that are still developing the symptoms that might not show up for years after an infection. And how many might yet be infected according to the prevailing DU-density in a given area? And of course, one would want to know how to prevent future infections if that is indeed possible?

The protection of human life doesn't seem to be a thing of great concern to a War President that has permanent war his agenda in the service of imperial objectives. Human life is probably of no greater significance to a War President than the nation's laws and the very Constitution that he regards as a but "******* piece of paper," as the Scriptures appear to be regarded by him that he placed his hands on while being sworn to uphold the laws and the principles of the Constitution.

The ever-mounting wave of tragedy that the public is now facing in its daily life tells us how deeply the fascist takeover, which Franklin Roosevelt had warned about, has already penetrated America. The depth of the penetration is especially evident when one considers that another massive campaign is now being launched to bomb another large country (Iran) with probably another enormous dose of increased DU poisoning being spread across the world that is mankind's common home, especially when it is already deadly in its smallest beginning. The new campaign for the bombing of Iran is now fast moving towards the implementation phase in spite of all the evidence of the dangers that such bombing campaigns bring to the whole of mankind. In a fascist world, ruled by 'men of war,' nobody cares about that.

The fascism in America has apparently reached so deep and become so wide-spread that the new (insane) campaign to bomb Iran might not be stoppable by any means. Officially the pre-emptive campaign is said to be 'required' to prevent Iran from acquiring the capacity to produce an atomic bomb in five to ten years time (according the official US estimate), which Iran says it has no intentions to build, Nor has any proof been shown that Iran has plans to create a nuclear bomb in the future. Thus, the entire insane campaign to blow up another country in a huff is evidently intended for some other purpose, an imperial purpose that fascism has historically been designed to serve. The official reason, obviously is sheer hypocrisy, as Mr. Mark Weber, Director of the Institute for Historical Review, points out (below) in a recent interview (March 26, 2006).

Our government has said a lot about Iran in recent months, and the rank hypocrisy of the Bush administration in this matter is just amazing. Bush denounces Iran for not being a democratic country, while he himself came to office in an election in which his opponent got more votes than he did. Iran has not attacked another country in more than two centuries, although it has been attacked by other countries repeatedly over the last hundred years. In 1941 two allies of the United States -- the Soviet Union and Britain -- attacked, invaded, and occupied Iran. In the aftermath of the Islamic Revolution, Iraq attacked Iran with the connivance and support of the United States. To denounce Iran as a great threat to world peace is not only untrue, it's amazing hypocrisy coming from an administration with the record that this one has.

And so the DU-wars will likely continue since society doesn't care to call the hypocrisy for what it is. Consequently more and more of the deadly vaporized uranium will be dumped into the global environment. Nor is Iran the only country set up to be destroyed with the more efficient non-nuclear uranium munitions and bombs. Ira is one of many countries on the list of "centers of tyranny" that officially tallies up the nations that don't like the 'flavour' of American democracy that has opened the flood-gates to the new age of the rich 'for-profit-wars.' America has made it clear that those wars are not designed to end, but are meant to go on for 100 years and more, apparently to keep the profits flowing.

Together with Iran, North Korea is also slated to become eliminated soon. As reported (according to the Korea Times, Dec. 23, 2005), the U.S. military has already 2.7 million depleted uranium bombs pre-positioned in South Korea. (see: Korea Times 12/23.2005) And even that appears to be just another beginning as the thermonuclear bomb has been openly put onto the table to be used against Iran.

The stockpiling of 2.7 million depleted uranium bombs might also mean that their is another 'Dresden' in the making, and one that is many times worse.

The bombing of the German city of Dresden in the last days of World War II is said to have been the most brutal single act of genocide in all history up to that time. The bombing attack had put twice as many people to death than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. In one single 14-hour circus of madness 700,000 firebombs were dropped onto this city that had previously swelled to a city of one-and-a-half million by a large flood of refugees from Poland and Czechoslovakia, mostly women and children fleeing the war. The allied forces themselves were just a few dozen miles away from the city on the night when the first of three waves of the Lancaster bombers arrived. The pilots would likely have heard the chorus of the people's screams had their voices not be drowned out by the drone of those thousand Merlin engines that relentlessly powered the work horses of this armada of death. The bombs created firestorms that became hotter than a steel furnace, with a plume of smoke rising that could eventually be seen in London, 650 km away.

All that the city had needed at this time was one more day or two. So close was its liberation. When the liberation finally came it was meaningless. More than 260,000 corpses were collected in the aftermath of the estimated 500,000 people that were burned to death that night.

Strategically speaking the event was an allied attack against fascism. In real terms it was a fascist attack against humanity, a showcase of terror to illustrate the might of the British/American imperial machine and the 'colour' of its resolve.

Apparently the madness had a purpose. A showcase of the West's awesome power had been desired, probably by Winston Churchill. Such a showcase had been planned for just a few days before the Dresden bombing. It had been planned for the conclusion of the Yalta conference. The imperial goal apparently had been to inspire Russia to subject itself to the awesome power of the West in the coming postwar period, as if to say to Stalin, "resistance is futile."

As it turned out the scheduled showcase of strength had been called off in Yalta, apparently due to bad weather. However the plan apparently had not been abandoned so that Dresden became selected for it as a backup location. It is suggested by historians that the imperial goal had been to terrorize Russia in to cowardice, whose soldiers were probably at the scene when the city was still burning. The goal might have been similar to America's "Shock and Awe" bombing of Iraq. In the more modern timeframe it appears that a four-times larger event than the bombing of Dresden is planned for North Korea, for which 2.7 million depleted uranium bombs have already been pre-positioned. The evident strategic goal is to terrorize China into subjecting itself to imperial rule, and possibly also Russia. Those 2.7 million uranium enhanced bombs would certainly stage an awesome show of western imperial strength and resolve. But to what end? Who will bear the cost? Dresden was rebuild as time went by. It is a beautiful and liveable city again. But can the same be said about the world after another few million kilograms of vaporized uranium are added to the air around the world and to the global environment? Will the world remain suitable for human habitation? Will its cities remain liveable?

In these questions we see the face of modern fascism shining through. By all appearances this face is the same 'face' that we have always beheld under the emblem of the 'swastika' in its many forms. We saw this face reflected in Maitre's wheel, in Goya's cross for the Inquisition, an in Hitler's perversion of the swastika into an emblem of universal terror and evil. For as long as fascism remains a feature on this planet the swastika will remain the enduring emblem of fascism. The swastika is the universal emblem of horror regardless over which nation, religion, or ideology it presides, because the horror is always the same no matter where and how it unfolds and by whose hands. In the modern days of DU warfare the swastika is also becoming the universal emblem of suffering that mankind might soon become unable to escape.

It appears that we are nevertheless still at the beginning stages. In terms of the progressing poisoning of the world with depleted uranium one sees no future for mankind. The only path on which mankind appears to have a future is the path of love for itself, for its humanity that is under attack and so easily thrown away as worthless for countless reasons that don't amount to anything in comparison with what we are prepared to throw away. The pivotal point here literally is the Principle of Universal Love and its universal expression. Do we have enough love for ourselves and one-another as human beings to prevent any further destruction of the world in which we live before the boundary of no return is crossed and mankind is lost.

We face a unique situation in the sphere of DU-wars where the full consequences won't show up for a decade or two. We get no feedback in the DU-wars from our actions until it is too late to escape the consequences. We are literally forced into a higher regime of thinking and acting that has never been a necessity in the past. That puts us into the realm of having to defend ourselves with the only option we have, which is our love for our humanity as a matter of principle. Nothing less than the Principle of Universal Love will inspire us to block the path to war, which has become a path to DU-war, a war against humanity universally. The active expression of the Principle of Universal Love that closes the door to war is Our Universal Kiss. War cannot be stopped by passive means. An active devotion to peace is required. A kiss is an active thing.

The path to Our Universal Kiss may be a hard path to tread as it requires society to surrender many of its 'treasures,' such as its acquired greed, in order to make room for its natural humanity and for it to give up its stolen profits for a productive prosperity. We must give up our 'glee' for destroying and find our prosperity and security in building a richer world, and throw away the sword along the way for honest cooperation among a universal humanity of equals. That is the kind of Universal Kiss that alone builds civilizations and creates the much needed renaissance in the world in which bombs have no place no matter by what name they are called.

Very interesting salome.
However, so far as I know there has never been a depleted Uranium bomb and certainly not one dropped as a weapon. Depleted Uranium is a penetrator in that it's very much denser than the hardest steel and heavier. That's why it's used in anti tank rounds...to pierce heavy armor.

Now assuming and only assuming the writer is correct about the level of radioactivity of depleted uranium being high enough to cause harm or death to humans....

I could take this more seriously if....the author could tell us all how the "elites" of this depopulation conspiracy think they could protect themselves against breathing in radioactive particles in the air, coming in contact with the particles on their skin, avoid drinking radioactive water, eating radioactive food...including animals which have grazed on radioactive grass and eaten radioactive hay, oats, bran and other radioactive feed products.

Any ideas?

You might also want to speak to this.

If their plan is to kill most of us off, shouldn't we just kill them all first? Haven't they forfeited their lives by hatching such a monstrous murderous plot?

Lastly, what do you calculate their life expectency would be if it were generally known they are attempting to sentence 5 billion of us or so to death?

Top Scientist Advocates Mass Culling 90% Of Human Population

Fellow professors and scientists applause and roar approval at elite's twisted and genocidal population control agenda

A top scientist gave a speech to the Texas Academy of Science last month in which he advocated the need to exterminate 90% of the population through the airborne ebola virus. Dr. Eric R. Pianka's chilling comments, and their enthusiastic reception again underscore the elite's agenda to enact horrifying measures of population control.

Pianka's speech was ordered to be kept off the record before it began as cameras were turned away and hundreds of students, scientists and professors sat in attendance.

Saying the public was not ready to hear the information presented, Pianka began by exclaiming, “We're no better than bacteria!”, as he jumped into a doomsday malthusian rant about overpopulation destroying the earth.

Standing in front of a slide of human skulls, Pianka gleefully advocated airborne ebola as his preferred method of exterminating the necessary 90% of humans, choosing it over AIDS because of its faster kill period. Ebola victims suffer the most tortuous deaths imaginable as the virus kills by liquefying the internal organs. The body literally dissolves as the victim writhes in pain bleeding from every orifice.

Pianka then cited the Peak Oil fraud as another reason to initiate global genocide. “And the fossil fuels are running out,” he said, “so I think we may have to cut back to two billion, which would be about one-third as many people.”

Later, the scientist welcomed the potential devastation of bird flu and spoke glowingly of China's enforced one child policy, before zestfully commenting, “We need to sterilize everybody on the Earth.”

At the end of Pianka's speech the audience erupted not to a chorus of boos and hisses but to a raucous reception of applause and cheers as audience members clammered to get close to the scientist to ask him follow up questions. Pianka was later presented with a distinguished scientist award by the Academy. Pianka is no crackpot. He has given lectures to prestigious universities worldwide.

One horrified observer was able to make notes on the speech and our gratitude goes to Forrest M. Mims for bringing this sickening display to the attention of the world.

Throughout history elites have invented justification for barbaric practices as a cover for their true agenda of absolute power and control over populations. Up until the 19th century, the transatlantic slave trade was justified by saying that the practice was biblical and therefore morally redeemable in nature, despite the fact that no such bible passage exists.

From 1932 until 1972, the Tuskegee Study Group (pictured below) deliberately infected poor black communities in Alabama with syphilis without their consent and withheld treatment as the diseased rampaged through the town killing families.

In 1951 the Israeli government used US government provided technology to irradiate 100,000 Jewish children in a mass atomic experiment with an entire generation of Sephardi youths used as guinea pigs. 6,000 died immediately after the experiments and the rest suffered for the rest of their lives with debilitating illnesses and cancer.

Pianka's doomsday warning of the population bomb, for which Mims claims he presented no evidence whatsoever, is complete pseudo-science. Populations in developed countries are declining and only in third world countries is it expanding dramatically. Industrialization itself levels out population trends and even despite this world population models routinely show that the earth's population will level out at 9 billion in 2050 and slowly decline after that. "The population of the most developed countries will remain virtually unchanged at 1.2 billion until 2050," states a United Nations report. Conservation International's own study revealed that 46% of the earth's surface was an untouched wilderness, that is land areas not including sea. It is commonly accepted that the entire world population could all fit into the state of Texas and each have an acre of their own land.

Think about the magnitude of Pianka's statements. He wants to kill nine out of every ten members of your family and he wants to kill them in one of the most painful and agonizing ways imaginable.

If Pianka, or 'The Lizard Man' as he likes to be called, is so vehement in the necessity of culling the human population will he step forward to be the first one in line? Will he sacrifice his children for the so-called greater good of the planet? We somehow doubt it.

Will the students who so enthusiastically greeted his ideas go home and kill themselves for the cause if it is so righteous?

It was noted how Pianka presented his argument with the kind of glee that you would see in a demented serial killer before dispatching his victim. This is an attitude we have encountered again and again. To discuss killing 90% of the world's population via a horrific plague is sick enough within itself but you would at least expect its advocates to be serious and sober in their approach to the subject. The opposite seems to be the case, where the subject is aired in a context of lighthearted lip-smacking and hand-rubbing as if the individual was about to sink his teeth into a T-bone steak.

This window gives us a clear view of exactly why these deranged ******** encompass this ideology. They love death and their lives are motivated by dark influences very different to you or I.

Pianka's approval of how the Chinese police state effectively controlled their population tells us that this rhetoric is just the glue that holds together the true agenda of the elite. A staged bio-attack blamed on terrorists could be the perfect cover for enacting the program of population reduction and the usurpation of our remaining freedoms.

In the 21st century the elite are concerned that from over 6 billion people might spring a new elite to challenge their stranglehold on the reigns of power. This is one reason for desire to cull the population down to a manageable level. Another is control over the behavior of the existing serfs and herding them like cattle into the slaughter house.

As we have documented, members of the elite are quite open in their feverish lust to commit mass murder and ethnic cleansing. In the foreword to his biography If I Were An Animal, Prince Philip wrote, "In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, in order to contribute something to solve overpopulation."

National Security Memo 200, dated April 24, 1974, and titled "Implications of world wide population growth for U.S. security & overseas interests," says:

"Dr. Henry Kissinger proposed in his memorandum to the NSC that "depopulation should be the highest priority of U.S. foreign policy towards the Third World." He quoted reasons of national security, and because `(t)he U.S. economy will require large and increasing amounts of minerals from abroad, especially from less-developed countries ... Wherever a lessening of population can increase the prospects for such stability, population policy becomes relevant to resources, supplies and to the economic interests of U.S."

Kissinger prepared a depopulation manifesto for President Jimmy Carter called 'Global 2000' which detailed using food as a weapon to depopulate the third world.

One of the most chilling admissions of deadly intent came from the lips of the late Jacques Cousteau, the sainted environmental icon. In an interview with the UNESCO Courier for November 1991 the famed oceanographer said:

"The damage people cause to the planet is a function of demographics — it is equal to the degree of development. One American burdens the earth much more than twenty Bangaladeshes. The damage is directly linked to consumption. Our society is turning toward more and needless consumption. It is a vicious circle that I compare to cancer...."

"This is a terrible thing to say. In order to stabilize world population, we must eliminate 350,000 people per day. It is a horrible thing to say, but it’s just as bad not to say it."

The Melbourne Age reported on recently uncovered documents detailing Nobel Peace Prize winning microbiologist Sir Macfarlane Burnet's plan to help the Australian government develop biological weapons for use against Indonesia and other "overpopulated" countries of South-East Asia.

Pianka's ideology is in the same league as Hitler, Pol Pot, and the rest of history's despots who advocated mass extermination and had the temerity to dress it up in a 'noble' Straussian facade. Depleted Uranium: The Trojan Horse of Nuclear War

The use of depleted uranium weaponry by the United States, defying all international treaties, will slowly annihilate all species on earth including the human species, and yet this country continues to do so with full knowledge of its destructive potential.

Since 1991, the United States has staged four wars using depleted uranium weaponry, illegal under all international treaties, conventions and agreements, as well as under the US military law. The continued use of this illegal radioactive weaponry, which has already contaminated vast regions with low level radiation and will contaminate other parts of the world over time, is indeed a world affair and an international issue. The deeper purpose is revealed by comparing regions now contaminated with depleted uranium — from Egypt, the Middle East, Central Asia and the northern half of India — to the US geostrategic imperatives described in Zbigniew Brzezinski’s 1997 book The Grand Chessboard.

SOUTH REGION: “This huge region, torn by volatile hatreds and surrounded by competing powerful neighbors, is likely to be a major battlefield, both for wars among nation-states and, more likely, for protracted ethnic and religious violence. Whether India acts as a restraint or whether it takes advantage of some opportunity to impose its will on Pakistan will greatly affect the regional scope of the likely conflicts. The internal strains within Turkey and Iran are likely not only to get worse but to greatly reduce the stabilizing role these states are capable of playing within this volcanic region. Such developments will in turn make it more difficult to assimilate the new Central Asian states into the international community, while also adversely affecting the American-dominated security of the Persian Gulf region. In any case, both America and the international community may be faced here with a challenge that will dwarf the recent crisis in the former Yugoslavia.” Brzezinski

The fact is that the United States and its military partners have staged four nuclear wars, "slipping nukes under the wire" by using dirty bombs and dirty weapons in countries the US needs to control. Depleted uranium aerosols will permanently contaminate vast regions and slowly destroy the genetic future of populations living in those regions, where there are resources which the US must control, in order to establish and maintain American primacy.

Described as the Trojan Horse of nuclear war, depleted uranium is the weapon that keeps killing. The half-life of Uranium-238 is 4.5 billion years, the age of the earth. And, as Uranium-238 decays into daughter radioactive products, in four steps before turning into lead, it continues to release more radiation at each step. There is no way to turn it off, and there is no way to clean it up. It meets the US Government’s own definition of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

After forming microscopic and submicroscopic insoluble Uranium oxide particles on the battlefield, they remain suspended in air and travel around the earth as a radioactive component of atmospheric dust, contaminating the environment, indiscriminately killing, maiming and causing disease in all living things where rain, snow and moisture remove it from the atmosphere. Global radioactive contamination from atmospheric testing was the equivalent of 40,000 Hiroshima bombs, and still contaminates the atmosphere and lower orbital space today. The amount of low level radioactive pollution from depleted uranium released since 1991, is many times more (deposited internally in the body), than was released from atmospheric testing fallout.

A 2003 independent report for the European Parliament by the European Committee on Radiation Risk (ECRR), reports that based on Chernobyl studies, low level radiation risk is 100 to 1000 times greater than the International Committee for Radiation Protection models estimate which are based on the flawed Atomic and Hydrogen Bomb Studies conducted by the US Government. Referring to the extreme killing effects of radiation on biological systems, Dr. Rosalie Bertell, one of the 46 international radiation expert authors of the ECRR report, describes it as:

"The concept of species annihilation means a relatively swift, deliberately induced end to history, culture, science, biological reproduction and memory. It is the ultimate human rejection of the gift of life, an act which requires a new word to describe it: omnicide."

1943 MANHATTAN PROJECT BLUEPRINT FOR DEPLETED URANIUM

In a declassified memo to General Leslie R. Groves, dated October 30, 1943, three of the top physicists in the Manhattan Project, Dr James B Conant, A H Compton, and H C Urey, made their recommendation, as members of the Subcommittee of the S-1 Executive Committee, on the ‘Use of Radioactive Materials as a Military Weapon’:

"As a gas warfare instrument the material would be ground into particles of microscopic size to form dust and smoke and distributed by a ground-fired projectile, land vehicles, or aerial bombs. In this form it would be inhaled by personnel. The amount necessary to cause death to a person inhaling the material is extremely small … There are no known methods of treatment for such a casualty … it will permeate a standard gas mask filter in quantities large enough to be extremely damaging."

As a Terrain Contaminant:

"To be used in this manner, the radioactive materials would be spread on the ground either from the air or from the ground if in enemy controlled territory. In order to deny terrain to either side except at the expense of exposing personnel to harmful radiations … Areas so contaminated by radioactive material would be dangerous until the slow natural decay of the material took place … for average terrain no decontaminating methods are known. No effective protective clothing for personnel seems possible of development. … Reservoirs or wells would be contaminated or food poisoned with an effect similar to that resulting from inhalation of dust or smoke."

Internal Exposure:

"… Particles smaller than 1µ [micron] are more likely to be deposited in the alveoli where they will either remain indefinitely or be absorbed into the lymphatics or blood. … could get into the gastro-intestinal tract from polluted water, or food, or air. … may be absorbed from the lungs or G-I tract into the blood and so distributed throughout the body."

Both the fission products and depleted uranium waste from the Atomic Bomb Project were to be utilised under this plan. The pyrophoric nature of depleted uranium, which causes it to begin to burn at very low temperatures from friction in the gun barrel, made it an ideal radioactive gas weapon then and now. Also it was more available because the amount of depleted uranium produced was much greater than the amount of fission products produced in 1943.

Britain had thoughts of using poisoned gas on Iraq long before 1991:

"I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilized tribes. The moral effect should be good... and it would spread a lively terror..." (Winston Churchill commenting on the British use of poison gas against the Iraqis after the First World War).

GUIDED WEAPONS SYSTEMS

Depleted uranium weapons were first given by the US to Israel for use under US supervision in the 1973 Sinai war against the Arabs. Since then the US has tested, manufactured, and sold depleted uranium weapons systems to 29 countries. An international taboo prevented their use until 1991, when the US broke the taboo and used them for the first time, on the battlefields of Iraq and Kuwait.

The US military admitted using depleted uranium projectiles in tanks and planes, but warheads in missiles and bombs are classified or referred to as a ‘dense’ or ‘mystery metal’. Dai Williams, a researcher at the 2003 World Depleted Uranium Weapons Conference, reported finding 11 US patents for guided weapons systems with the term ‘depleted uranium’ or ‘dense metal’, which from the density can only be depleted uranium or tungsten, in order to fit the dimensions of the warhead.

Extensive carpet bombing, grid bombing, and the frequent use of missiles and depleted uranium bullets on buildings in densely populated areas has occurred in Iraq, Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan. The discovery that bomb craters in Yugoslavia in 1999 were radioactive, and that an unexploded missile in 1999 contained a depleted uranium warhead, implies that the total amount of depleted uranium used since 1991 has been greatly underestimated. Of even greater concern, is that 100 per cent of the depleted uranium in bombs and missiles is aerosolized upon impact and immediately released into the atmosphere. This amount can be as much as 1.5 tons in the large bombs. In bullets and cannon shells, the amount aerosolized is 40-70 per cent, leaving pieces and unexploded shells in the environment, to provide new sources of radioactive dust and contamination of the groundwater from dissolved depleted uranium metal long after the battles are over, as reported in a 2003 report by the UN Environmental Program on Yugoslavia. Considering that the US has admitted using 34 tons of depleted uranium from bullets and cannon shells in Yugoslavia, and the fact that 35,000 NATO bombing missions occurred there in 1999, potentially the amount of depleted uranium contaminating Yugoslavia and transboundary drift into surrounding countries is staggering.

Because of mysterious illnesses and post-war birth defects reported among Gulf War veterans and civilians in southern Iraq, and radiation related illnesses in UN Peacekeepers serving in Yugoslavia, growing concerns about radiation effects and environmental damage has stirred up international outrage about the use of radioactive weapons by the US after 1991. At the 2003 meeting of parties to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, discussing the U.S. desire to maintain its nuclear weapons stockpile, the Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi AKIBA stated,

"It is incumbent upon the rest of the world ... to stand up now and tell all of our military leaders that we refuse to be threatened or protected by nuclear weapons. We refuse to live in a world of continually recycled fear and hatred".

ILLEGAL UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW

Four reasons why using depleted uranium weapons violates the UN Convention on Human Rights:

LEGALITY TEST FOR WEAPONS UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW

TEMPORAL TEST – Weapons must not continue to act after the battle is over.

ENVIRONMENTAL TEST – Weapons must not be unduly harmful to the environment.

TERRITORIAL TEST – Weapons must not act off of the battlefield.

HUMANENESS TEST – Weapons must not kill or wound inhumanly.

International Human Rights and humanitarian lawyer, Karen Parker, determined that depleted uranium weaponry fails the four tests for legal weapons under international law, and that it is also illegal under the definition of a ‘poison’ weapon. Through Karen Parker’s continued efforts, a sub-commission of the UN Human Rights Commission determined in 1996 that depleted uranium is a weapon of mass destruction that should not be used:

RESOLUTION 1996/16 ON STOPPING THE USE OF DEPLETED URANIUM - DU

The military use of DU violates current international humanitarian law, including the principle that there is no unlimited right to choose the means and methods of warfare (Art. 22 Hague Convention VI (HCIV); Art. 35 of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva (GP1); the ban on causing unnecessary suffering and superfluous injury (Art. 23 §le HCIV; Art. 35 §2 GP1), indiscriminate warfare (Art. 51 §4c and 5b GP1) as well as the use of poison or poisoned weapons.

The deployment and use of DU violate the principles of international environmental and human rights protection. They contradict the right to life established by the Resolution 1996/16 of the UN Subcommittee on Human Rights.

FOUR NUCLEAR WARS

Although restricted to battlefields in Iraq and Kuwait, the 1991 Gulf War was one of the most toxic and environmentally devastating wars in world history. Oil well fires, the bombing of oil tankers and oil wells which released millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Arabia and desert, and the devastation from tanks and heavy equipment destroyed the desert ecosystem. The long term and far reaching effects, and dispersal of at least 340 tons of depleted uranium weapons, had a global environmental effect. Smoke from the oil fires was later found in deposits in South America, the Himalayas and Hawaii. Large annual dust storms originating in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia will quickly spread the radioactive contamination around the world, and weathering of old depleted uranium munitions on battlefields and other areas will provide new sources of radioactive contamination in future years. Downwind from the radioactive devastation in Iraq, Israel is also suffering from large increases in breast cancer, leukemia and childhood diabetes.

RADIATION RESPECTS NO BORDERS, NO SOCIOECONOMIC CLASS, AND NO RELIGION

The expendability of the sanctity of life to achieve US political ends was described by US soldiers on the ground, and from the air, along the Highway of Death in Iraq in 1991:

"Iraqi soldiers [whether they] be young boys or old men. They were a sad sight, with absolutely no fight left in them. Their leaders had cut their Achilles’ tendons so they couldn’t run away and then left them. What weapons they had were in bad repair and little ammunition was on hand. They were hungry, cold, and scared. The hate I had for any Iraqi dissipated. These people had no business being on a battlefield."

American pilots bombing and strafing, with depleted uranium weapons, helpless retreating Iraqi soldiers who had already surrendered, exclaimed:

"We toasted him…. we hit the jackpot….a turkey shoot….shooting fish in a barrel….basically just sitting ducks… There’s just nothing like it. It’s the biggest Fourth of July show you’ve ever seen, and to see those tanks just ‘boom’, and more stuff just keeps spewing out of them… they just become white hot. It’s wonderful."

Nearly 700,000 American Gulf War Veterans returned to the US from a war that lasted just a few weeks. Today more than 240,000 of those soldiers are on permanent medical disability, and over 11,000 are dead. In a US Government study on post-Gulf War babies born to 251 veterans, 67 per cent of the babies were reported to have serious illnesses or serious birth defects. They were born without eyes, ears, had missing organs, fused fingers, thyroid or other malfunctions. Depleted uranium in the semen of the soldiers internally contaminated their wives. Severe birth defects have been reported in babies born to contaminated civilians in Iraq, Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan and the incidence and severity of defects is increasing over time. Women in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq are afraid now to have babies, and when they do give birth, instead of asking if it is a girl or a boy, they ask ‘is it normal?’.

Soldiers who served in Bradley fighting vehicles, where it was common to sit on ammunition boxes where depleted uranium ammunition was stored, are now reporting that many have rectal cancer.

For the first time, medical doctors in Yugoslavia and Iraq have reported multiple in situ unrelated cancers developing in patients, and even in families who are living in highly contaminated areas. Even stranger, they report that cancer was unknown in previous generations. Very rare and unusual cancers and birth defects have also been reported to be increasing above normal levels prior to 1991, not only in war torn countries, but in neighbouring countries from transboundary contamination.

Dr. Keith Baverstock, a senior radiation advisor who was on the staff of the World Health Organization, co-authored a report in November 2001, warning that the long-term health effects of depleted uranium would endanger Iraq’s civilian population, and that the dry climate would increase exposure from the tiny particles blowing around and be inhaled for years to come. The WHO refused to give him permission to publish the study, bowing to pressure from the IAEA. Dr. Baverstock released the damning report to the media in February 2004. Pekka Haavisto, Chairman of the UN Environment Program’s Post-Conflict Assessment Unit in Geneva, shares Baverstock’s anxiety about depleted uranium but UNEP experts have not been allowed into Iraq to assess the pollution.

"DEPLETED URANIUM SCARE" - Claimed by President George W. Bush on the official White House website:

"During the Gulf War, coalition forces used armor-piercing ammunition made from depleted uranium, which is ideal for the purpose because of its great density. In recent years, the Iraqi regime has made substantial efforts to promote the false claim that the depleted uranium rounds fired by coalition forces have caused cancers and birth defects in Iraq. Iraq has distributed horrifying pictures of children with birth defects and linked them to depleted uranium. The campaign has two major propaganda assets:"

"Uranium is a name that has frightening associations in the mind of the average person, which makes the lie relatively easy to sell; and Iraq could take advantage of an established international network of antinuclear activists who had already launched their own campaign against depleted uranium."

"But scientists working for the World Health Organization, the UN Environmental Programme, and the European Union could find no health effects linked to exposure to depleted uranium."

The US war in Afghanistan made it clear that this was not a war IN the third world, but a war AGAINST the third world. In Afghanistan where 800 to 1000 tons of depleted uranium was estimated to have been used in 2001, even uneducated Afghanis understand the impact these weapons have had on their children and on future generations:

"After the Americans destroyed our village and killed many of us, we also lost our houses and have nothing to eat. However, we would have endured these miseries and even accepted them, if the Americans had not sentenced us all to death. When I saw my deformed grandson, I realized that my hopes of the future have vanished for good, different from the hopelessness of the Russian barbarism, even though at that time I lost my older son Shafiqullah. This time, however, I know we are part of the invisible genocide brought on us by America, a silent death from which I know we will not escape." (Jooma Khan of Laghman province, March 2003)

In 1990, the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) wrote a report warning about the potential health and environmental catastrophe from the use of depleted uranium weapons. The health effects had been known for a long time. The report sent to the UK government warned "in their estimation, if 50 tonnes of residual DU dust remained ‘in the region’ there could be half a million extra cancers by the end of the century [2000]." Estimates of depleted uranium weapons used in 1991, now range from the Pentagon’s admitted 325 tons, to other scientific bodies who put the figure as high as 900 tons. That would make the number of estimated cancers as high as 9,000,000, depending on the amount used in the 1991 Gulf War. In the 2003 Gulf War, estimates of 2200 tons have been given — causing about 22,000,000 new cancer cases. Altogether the total number of cancer patients estimated using the UKAEA data would be 25,250,000. In July of 1998, the CIA estimated the population of Iraq to be approximately 24,683,313.

Ironically, the UN Resolution 661 calling for sanctions against Iraq, was signed on Hiroshima Day, August 6, 1990.

The parallels between Iraq, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan are startlingly similar. The weapons used, the unfair treaties offered by the US, and the bombing and destruction of the environment and entire infrastructure. In every city of Iraq and Yugoslavia, the television and radio stations were bombed.

Educational centres were targeted, and stores where educational materials were sold were destroyed on nearly the same day. Under UN sanctions, Iraq was not even allowed pencils for schoolchildren. Cultural antiquities and historical treasures were targeted and destroyed in all three countries, a kind of cultural and historical cleansing, a collective national psychic trauma.

The permanent radioactive contamination and environmental devastation of all three countries is unprecedented, resulting in huge increases in cancer and birth defects following the attacks. These will increase over time from unknown effects due to chronic exposure, increasing internal levels of radiation from depleted uranium dust, and permanent genetic effects passed on to future generations.

Clearly, this has been a genocidal plan from the start.

Millions of years ago, before India crashed into the Eurasian continent and uplifted the Himalayas, the ancient shallow Tethys sea stretched from the Atlantic across what is now the Mediterranean, Black, Caspian and Aral seas. Rich oil deposits are now located where ancient life accumulated and ‘cooked’ under just the right conditions to form large oil deposits in the ancient sediments. Long before 1991, Unocal in Afghanistan, Amoco in Yugoslavia, and various oil companies interested in Iraq oil deposits, had conducted extensive exploration and characterisation of oil deposits in the Middle East and Central Asian regions, including the northern half of India.

Britain has maintained an interest in Middle Eastern oil deposits for a century, and has been the staunchest military partner of the US since the first depleted uranium war in 1991 in Iraq. Germany, another military partner in Yugoslavia with forces now in Afghanistan, was one of the major economic beneficiaries of the breakup of Yugoslavia and the colonisation of the Balkans. US interest in Yugoslavia had much to do with building pipelines from Central Asia to the Mediterranean warm water ports in Yugoslavia. A silent and hidden partnership between the US and Japan provided large amounts of cash from Japan to finance the 1991 Iraq and 1995/1999 Yugoslavian wars, with additional help in Afghanistan by providing not only cash, but fuel for the war, from Aegis warships of the Japanese Self Defense Forces in the Indian Ocean. Nippon Steel, Mitsubishi, and Halliburton are now partners in a Central Asian oil pipeline project. In 2004, despite much citizen opposition in Japan, the Japanese government has sent Self Defense Forces to Iraq for ‘reconstruction’. This action taken by the Japanese government, of placing troops on the ground in a war zone, will lead to rescinding Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution, which forever prohibits military aggression by Japan.

But what do oil, military partners, depleted uranium wars, and US foreign policy have to do with nuclear weapons? The answer came to me in 1991 when I became a whistleblower at the Livermore Nuclear Weapons Laboratory near San Francisco, California. Richard Berta, the Western Regional Inspector for the Department of Energy, told me "The Pentagon exists for the oil companies… and the nuclear weapons labs exist for the Pentagon."

Depleted uranium was used beginning in 1991 for three reasons:

To test the radiobiological effects of 4th generation nuclear weapons, which are still under development

To blur and break down the distinction between conventional and nuclear weapons

To make it easier to reintroduce nuclear weapons into the US military arsenal
Today, the US is number one in 4th generation nuclear weapons research and development, followed by Japan and Germany tied for number two, and Russia and other countries follow.

The Carlyle Group, a private massive equity firm, the 12th largest defense business with an obscenely high profit margin, is a business "arrangement" between the Bush and Bin Laden families, wealthy Saudis, former British Prime Minister John Major, James Baker III, Afsaneh Masheyekhi, Frank Carlucci, Colin Powell, other former US Government administrators, and Madeleine Albright’s daughter. The Carlyle Group is the ‘gatekeeper’ to the Saudi investment community. It owns 70 percent of Lockheed Martin Marietta, the largest military contractor in the US, and because Carlyle is privately owned, has no scrutiny or accountability whatsoever. A journalist who calls himself ‘a skunk at the garden party’ described investigating the Carlyle Group, he said ‘it’s like shadow boxing with a ghost’. The Group hires as lobbyists the best known politicians from around the world, in order to influence the politics of war, and privately profit from their previous public policies. The conflict of interest is obvious: President George W. Bush is creating wars as his father, former President George Bush, is globally peddling weapons and "protection". Lockheed Martin Marietta now owns Sandia Laboratories, a private contractor that makes the trigger for nuclear weapons, with a Sandia laboratory facility across the street from Los Alamos and Livermore National Laboratories, where the nuclear bombs are made.

At the May 2003 University of California Regents meeting which I attended, Admiral Linton Brooks was present and newly in charge of the nuclear weapons programme under the Department of Energy. Admiral Brooks informed California Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante and the UC Regents that the management contract for the nuclear weapons laboratories, held unchallenged by the University of California for over 60 years, will be put up for competitive bid in 2005. The favoured institution, with a faculty member on the ‘blue ribbon committee’ making the contract award, is the University of Texas. This privatisation and management contract transfer of the US nuclear weapons programme will put control of the US nuclear weapons programme close to the Carlyle Group. The incestuous relationship between the US government, private companies, and the Bush and Bin Laden families in a way answers many of the lingering questions in everyone’s minds about many of the ill fated decisions and policies that have been implemented.

Leuren Moret has worked at two US nuclear weapons laboratories as a geoscientist. In 1991 she became a whistleblower at the Livermore nuclear weapons lab, and since then has worked as an independent citizen scientist and radiation specialist in communities around the world, and contributed to the UN subcommission investigating depleted uranium. The war in Iraq is over.

The rubble is still smoking. While the first dozers are already entering the country.
After the coalition forces destroyed Baghdad it is now primarily American companies who are to rebuild Iraq.

An interesting point is that these companies usually have people on the payroll who have been politicians. Is this a conflict of interest or a new (global) way of doing business?

One of the corporations that work this way is the Carlyle Group. On their payroll are people like : George Bush (Sr.), James Baker III and old premier John Major.

The Carlyle Group is a private investment bank which doesn't come to the publics attention very often but it is one of the biggest American (ed: USA) investors of the defense industry, telecom, property and financial services.

What is the Carlyle Group? Who are the people behind the name? And how much power does Carlyle have?

Ebola as a biological weapon to reduce the population...if the conspirators could develop a vaccine for themselves only..would be a possibility.
But, depleted uranium sounds far fetched because if the suppositions are correct and I dispute that they are correct...but if they were, there would be no way to avoid the "fallout" and the "conspirators" would be at as much risk as everyone else.

Now, it would be nice if you could post some scientific studies to back up the supposition that depleted uranium is radioactive to the degree necessary to cause harm, death or birth defects. We've been down this road before and no legitimate study...one which didn't come from an anti war group or one which even did any testing was provided here.

Birth defects have been with the human race forever. Cancers of various types as well..used to be called "consumption".

United States military personnel handle these munitions AND doctors treat military personnel who are injured in combat...having been exposed to the so called dust particles. I doubt those doctors..who are well aware of radiation poisoning...wear anti-radiation gear in their offices and ORs. Some of those military personnel are officers up to full colonels.

Now, do you really think the United States would expose our own troops to an environment which produces some very aggressive cancers and that the United States military would go along with that?

Don't you believe extensive testing was done under all kinds of conditions to make certain there was no danger from the depleted uranium munitions?

BTW, depleted uranium is the by product of enriching natural U-238/U235 to U-235 which removes the U-238 or most of it. U-235 powers nuclear reactors.

U-238 is found in water, soil and rocks. Uranium is mined without the need for special gear and depleted uranium is about .7 times as radioactive as natural uranium...which means it's less radioactive than natural uranium found in soil, rocks and water. The reason that is so is because natural uranium is a mixture of U-235 and U-238. U-235 is more radioactive than U-238 and comprises less than 1% of the mix. During enrichment, it's the U-235 that's being separated out for fuel...leaving the U-238 which is less radioactive.

The same cannot be said about nuclear weapons, especially the depleted uranium weapons, the dirtiest of the dirty bombs. It's the minuscule particle size produced by the DU-weapon that the human body has no defective defences against. And that is the difference that makes a world of difference in the biological sphere. All low-level background radiation is not the same! Some day this difference will be recognized. With DU particles as small as 1/10,000 the size a red blood cell the 'DU-invaders' find the door to the body almost totally unprotected. Also the invading pollutants are small enough so that they don't necessarily kill the cells that they become lodged in or nearby, but tend to just damage them, especially their DNA structures. It's from from the damaged cells that cancers develop.

Dr Rokke discusses the effects of depleted uranium

Doug Rokke sits on the edge of his chair in a beige, could-be-anywhere hotel room in Carlton. He stares at you with an almost embarrassing intensity and is close to tears.

"It's lonely," he says slowly. "It's very lonely. I made a decision. I was given a job. I did my job. I learned something. I gave them an answer they didn't want. I became persona non grata. And the better parts of my life ended."

What remains is an obsession with proving he is right about the dangers of depleted uranium (DU) weapons. A waste produced from the uranium enrichment process, depleted uranium has become increasingly contentious since American and British militaries first used it in the 1991 Gulf War and, since then, in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Rokke, a health physicist who became the Pentagon's most senior DU expert during the first Gulf War, became convinced it had contaminated the battlefield and could be a factor in Gulf War Syndrome, the mysterious mix of illnesses that have afflicted returning soldiers. Rokke acknowledges DU's brilliance as a weapon - because it is an extremely dense metal that sharpens and burns as it hits its target, it is used on the ends of tank shells and missiles to penetrate steel and concrete much more easily than conventional weapons. But he also believes that he and the research team became contaminated. "Everybody is sick," he says. "We've all got rashes, respiratory and kidney problems. It's there; there are no two ways about it."

Rokke is a military veteran. He joined the US Air Force in 1967 and bombed Vietnam targets "before I could shave". Years later, with a master of science and expertise in environmental health, he was ordered to the Gulf to help protect American soldiers if chemical and biological weapons were used and, later, to oversee DU clean-up. He became convinced DU was causing illnesses such as cancer, and that the Pentagon was downplaying its dangers. When he went public with his views, he was sacked

He is still campaigning, and this week urged the Australian Government, which doesn't allow weapons to be made with DU, to test returning troops for contamination and to campaign for it to be banned globally.

DU is only slightly radioactive - far less than uranium itself - but it is also chemically toxic, and scientists are divided about whether the combination poses a serious or remote health risk to soldiers and civilians who come in contact with it or inhale its dust. Little rigorous research has been done, and Rokke's theories remain unproven.

The official American position is that it is safe. In March, US Army Colonel James Naughton dismissed Iraqi claims that DU weapons caused cancers and leukaemia in children who played around bombed-out tanks and buildings during the first Gulf War. He claimed the real reason Iraq complained about DU weapons was because they were so effective. "Why do they (the then Iraqi government) want it to go away?" Naughton asked. "They want it to go away because we kicked the crap out of them. There is no doubt DU gave us a huge advantage over their tanks."

In the first Gulf War, most American deaths were from friendly-fire DU weapons. Rokke was ordered to decontaminate shot-up vehicles and tanks and to investigate health effects on troops. Dressed in protective gear and masks, he and his team crawled over tanks and other vehicles, sending some back to the US. Those considered too dangerous to move were buried in a giant hole in the ground.

In the mid-1990s, he was recalled from an academic job to head the Depleted Uranium Project in Nevada, which test-fired weapons into targets to analyse the health risks and to work out how to clean up safely.

Rokke, now 54, is convinced that he and other members of his team in Iraq were contaminated and that the tests he undertook showed that significant amounts of the DU vaporised on impact, making it extremely dangerous when inhaled. He pulls up his trouser leg to reveal the red rash he says appeared within hours of his contact with DU. He holds up his hand and moves fingers clumsily to show that his fine motor skills have gone. He has respiratory problems and cataracts and has medical reports showing that the amount of uranium in his urine is way above acceptable limits.

He has become a campaigner, not just for better clean-up and treatment, but for the weapons to be banned. "After everything I've seen, everything I've done, it became very clear to me that you just can't take radioactive wastes from one nation and just throw it into another nation. It's wrong. It's simply wrong."

Depleted uranium is so cheap and effective - 350 tonnes was used in weapons in the first Gulf War and possibly 500 tonnes in this year's Iraq conflict - that Rokke says the US is reluctant to do proper studies of veterans or Iraqi civilians. "It's the arrogance. Once they acknowledge that there are actual health effects of depleted uranium munitions, then they can't use them any more; the house of cards falls apart."

Rokke, brought to Melbourne by the Victorian Peace Network, has the single-mindedness of a whistleblower. He says he has lost friends, had his house ransacked, had his taxes audited and been publicly vilified for his outspokenness.

Concerns about DU have found some political acceptance - the British Government has announced it will test returning troops for DU contamination. But neither it, nor Washington, plan decontamination in Iraq. In the Australian Senate this week, Democrat Lynn Allison urged the Government to campaign internationally against DU in the same way it does against cluster bombs. Defence Minister Robert Hill said Australian troops in Iraq were not in areas where DU was used, and "there is no conclusive evidence to indicate that ammunition containing depleted uranium poses a significant adverse health risk to (Australian) personnel operating in Iraq".

The scientific evidence is cloudy because there has been so little research. It is broadly accepted that DU does little harm outside the body. But it may cause serious damage if it is inhaled. That means that people near where it is used could be contaminated, and it is possible it could seep into water tables.

Professor Brian Spratt, chairman of the British Royal Society's DU working group, this week told Radio National he welcomed the testing of British troops, because it meant the government "was at least taking the issue seriously, which is a very different attitude to the American military, who seem not to be interested in having any tests for their soldiers".

Spratt acknowledged that the issue was deeply political: the military have reasons for downplaying DU's health effects, and the anti-nuclear lobby have an interest in inflating them.

Rokke has faith he is doing what is right, and he clings to the belief that he is still doing the job the Pentagon ordered him to do. "I didn't ask for this job," he says. "I was given the job, and I'm going to finish the job."
