It was just announced in breaking news and has been confirmed that Donald Rumsfeld is resigning. Another victory for the American people and the world!!!!!!!!What a truly glorious day!!!! I am in tears here from joy and Rainbow I tried to call you but your phone was busy. We, along with millions of other American people did it, Rainbow!!!! Our efforts through the years have paid off. God bless America!!! God bless the world!!!!! Also want to announce that in the Montana race the Democratic candidate has now got a lead of 3000 over the Republican Burns with only 800 more votes to count. That should soon be announced as a win for the Dems and one more seat in the Senate lost by the Republicans. So the balance of power in the Senate hangs on the outcome of the Virginia election where the Dem is still leading over Allen. IP: Logged |

GOP says Rumsfeld is stepping down 11 minutes ago Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, intends to resign after six stormy years at the Pentagon, Republican officials said Wednesday.
Word came a day after the Democratic gains in the election, in which Rumsfeld was a focus of much of the criticism of the Iraq war. Officials said Robert Gates, former head of the CIA, would replace Rumsfeld. Earlier today, a spokesman for Rumsfeld said he'd given no indication that he would step down in the wake of Democratic election gains. The spokesman said Rumsfeld would work with Congress on Iraq but added that the focus on stabilizing the country will remain the same. In the days leading up to the election, President Bush said he wanted Rumsfeld to stay on as defense chief until the end of Bush's second term. Copyright © 2006 The Associated Press. Rumsfeld replaced after poll loss US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is standing down, President George W Bush has announced after bruising losses for Republicans in mid-term elections. Mr Bush said that "after a series of thoughtful conversations" he and Mr Rumsfeld has decided "the time is right for new leadership at the Pentagon". He said he had nominated former CIA Director Robert Gates to serve as Mr Rumsfeld's replacement. The Democrats gained control of the House of Representatives. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/6130296.stm What's this Robert Gates chap like then? I've heard his CIA director nomination was previously rejected in 1987 because of his possible role in the Iran-Contra affair. Is that true?

And that statement is correct because Bush's second term in office also ended yesterday. The duck is now lame officially whereas he was always lame. Am I gloating over all this? You betcha!!! After 6 long years of hell for America and the world I cannot help gloating but I am gloating over the fact that the voice of the American people has been heard big time after our 6 years in hell!!!!!!! This is kind of like a resurrection day for democracy in America. IP: Logged |

Don't worry, CG because the American people restored the checks and balance system of government in yesterday's election and Robert Gates and the President now will be held accountable to both the House and Congress and the American people. They can't do anything to hurt America and world any longer. Their reign of terror has come to an end. IP: Logged |

You should gloat Mirandee- it suits you. Nothing is going to change. Jwhop laid out in a simple enough for so that even a braindead moron would understand. That is why this is so funny. The Democrats may have taken over the house and possibly the Senate- but, they do not have enough support to get anything pushed WITHOUT a significant number of Republicans. A majority of the new Democrats elected are conservative- I don't see them cow-towing to Ms. Shrew Pelosi (oh.. sorry I demonsized her- from the mouth of the woman that calls Bush a baby killer). LMAO.... As jwhop said- Bush can break out his supply of Veto pens now- cause not alot is going to change, with the exception of the Democrats being severly embarrassed in the coming months with Pelosi as their mouth piece. But, you can keep dreaming...... PS.. this Rummy Replacement- I think you'll hate him just as much. Have fun gloating IP: Logged |

LOL I see the republicans at lindaland are breaking out the "braindead morons." Hmm where have we heard namecalling from republicans before? Maybe from virgnia republican Allen, remember Macaca?Apparently republicans don't get that namecalling doesn't work for them. Oh and by the way, apparently Allen just lost the race in Virginia. Looks the republicans have something thinking to do! Or perhaps they'll just be slinging out childish names like schoolyard bullies! IP: Logged |

Hi BlueRoamer, Maybe you are forgetting the Leftest liberal here calling us braindead, idiots, baby-killers, morons, liars, claiming fraud on behalf of a poster and threatening to sumbit his documents to the authorities only to be proven wrong.. should I go on or are you willing to admit that Democrats HERE are just as likely to call names as the Republicans - they just don't admit it. We call that lying. Seriously, I don't know one Republican that is upset by these turn of events. Maybe we should be gloating because in the long run this mini-upset (and I must emphasize MINI) is going to work in our favor. Time to set back and let the Dems royally screw up and then we'll be back to clean up the mess - as usual. By the way, did I miss the "mandate" details that the Democrats keep talking about? What is the exit strategy with the war on terror, enforcing our borders and keeping this Country safe? Time to come up with the goods, the shrill yelling isn't going to work any longer...LMAO....
This is going to be a hoot!!!!

Looks liek Tester has won in Montana, do I hear a democractic majority in the senate too?Pid it's normal during times of crisis to try to minimalize the losses by all kinds of illogical justifcations, it's a coping mechanism and you're presenting it first hand to everyone at lindaland. So keep on babbling sweety, you know you lost, now why don't you go into the corner and lick your paw with Jwhop? IP: Logged |

Well BR that would mean there was something to cope with. Unless you are unfamiliar with how our government works, you would know that the Dems don't have signficant power. Nothing has really changed other than we are now going to see what they can try to do or what they will propose. I think I would be upset if the new Dems taking over had the same ultra-liberal communistic bend as Pelosi and her crew. Most of them are still conservative - that is evident with how the states voted on most propositions in the South and Midwest. Coming up with the "coping" theory is something I believe you have manufactured in order to not feel uneasy about the Republicans lack of despair. Cute, but completely off target. IP: Logged |

It's easy for anyone to see that you're clearly overcompensating and trying to present a confident exterior when inside you're frustrated and feel defeated.Just be honest with yourself Pidoodle, your party lost this election, by a landslide, and more is to come. IP: Logged |

Blue, you fail to see the most elementary points.First, not much is going to change...except for radical democrats making fools of themselves screeching and shrieking Bush lied..let's investigate Bush and all the so called Neo-Cons...that's the circus aspect. If you were familiar with the "Peter Principle", you would understand people are promoted to the level of their incompetence...where they utterly fail. Pelosi has had cover as Minority Leader..where she didn't have to lead but merely attempt to bite Bush on the ankle at every opportunity. No longer and not only that but she will now be faced with Republicans resisting every step she takes over the line. You are likely to see the new conservative members of Congress not lining up with her and the rest of the leftists. The newly elected conservative democrats will be offered a choice. Vote with the far left radical elements of the democrat party...and lose the next election or walk the conservative walk they talked to get elected. Lastly, if they sided with the most radical elements of their party, they still couldn't override a Bush veto of leftist legislation....nor could they muster the 60 votes necessary to overcome a Republican filibuster in the Senate. This is pretty elementary Blue. democrats have no mandate. If they had, you would have seen a far different group of democrats elected and most certainly NOT conservative democrats. The fact is....the only reason democrats picked up the necessary seats to take control is BECAUSE they put forth far more conservative candidates and if they don't walk that walk, they will be gone. They'll all be gone eh? Looks like it's the all to conservative far right moral majority that's gotten the boot today.Maybe you should leave your prophecies for somewhere else on the website, Jwhimp, as for now your party has lost, and you're looking for any sort of silver lining you can. There's nothing wrong with conservative democrats, who knows maybe those elected will actually favor ECONOMIC CONSERVATISM unlike Mr.Bush and his wasteful cronies. You should be happy, maybe some REAL conservatism will be put into effect, now just wasteful spending and christian values disguised as laws.

Yeah, how exactly are conservative Democrats bad for us? These people are moderates who decided to run as Democrats, and won as Democrats. If they don't want anything to do with Democrats (or Pelosi) they wouldn't have ran as Democrats. IP: Logged |

BR.. A Landslide? Are you kidding? Well, that makes sense, you are the one that said on the other thread that "The polls have spoken, Iraq has been mismanaged, and people want something done about it, they're tired of their children dying for no reason. And whats that? Only 2 of the house members had children in Iraq, yet most of the republicans in the house voted for the war, surprise surprise." When in actuality it was between 5 and 7. Maybe math isn't your strong point and that is how you confused a mini-upset with a landslide? Love... Pidoodle IP: Logged |

democrats and republicans aside, does this make Rumsfeld the scapegoat?you know I have more respect for a man who stands up and admits he made a mistake and tries to rectify it than one who tries to confuse issues, cover it up, or passes the blame on to someone else. To me this is childish and not what I expect in a leader. I'm still reading, but I would like to see both democrat and republican views on this question. is Rumsfeld the scapegoat? Jwhop
