This was just on the news that some people are pushing for a vote in Congress that will make having kids a requirement of a marriage within 3 years or it will be annuled, leaving the couple without the benefits.I think that is a horrible horrible action that crosses the line far beyond appropriate. We arent even talking about people who don't want to have kids but what about those who cannot. I think this law is simply inhumane and barbaric. IP: Logged |

No, not quite. This is a state ballot measure put forth by a gay rights group. It has nothing to do with the Congress of the United States...and it's not going to get on the Washington State ballot..or I don't believe it will. If it does, it's not going anywhere. OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) -- Proponents of same-sex marriage have introduced a ballot measure that would require heterosexual couples to have a child within three years or have their marriages annulled. The Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance acknowledged on its Web site that the initiative was "absurd" but hoped the idea prompts "discussion about the many misguided assumptions" underlying a state Supreme Court ruling that upheld a ban on same-sex marriage. http://www.breitbart.com/news/2007/02/05/D8N3SMJO0.html

Hi BUD, They want to push this law to retaliate against what they perceive as being the "right wing's" agenda in keeping same sex couples from being married. As it stands marriage is between one man and one woman- and traditionally for procreation.
The sentiment of those that have created this law is that since they perceive the argument against same sex marriage is based on the fact that they can't procreate, then the same standard should be applied to straight couples that are marriage and have either chosen not to have kids or can't have kids. I am personally against gay marriage but I am for civil unions. Ironically, a majority of my gay friends (and I live in a largely gay community) are also for civil unions and not marriage. I hope this helped
