Ummm, why? The majority of people who use are of color and its not really done offensively. When someone says "My n___" they usually mean "my boy" or something like that. What happened to freedom of speech anyways?IP: Logged |

True that words get censored out on television, but the people who say them are still allowed to say them...are they not? Again, I don't see the point of banning the use of the N-Word when most people today don't use it offensively at all. Though I guess its all subjective because you will find people of color who find that offensive too. But still, freedom of speech?IP: Logged |

Freedom of speech is all well and good until someone believes they're being subjected to a defamation of character - But, they'll just sue you, so that usually takes care of it. Can you imagine if people starting sueing each other over the use of the N word? There would have to be a whole new and separate court system just to process the work load...Lol...Can New Yorkers still use words like Kike, Limey, Honkey, Chink, Squaw, Packy, etc? (oooh. wow. I was horrified at myself just for typing those words!) Why are some racial slurs so offensive, while others are not? IP: Logged |

true dulce, freedom of speech is fine, but theres a violent history in this country linked to the word "n*ggr", and out of respect, people generally shouldn't say it, and also think back to Michael Richards (Seinfeld - Kramer) tyrant using that word, its used quite unauspiciously, and characterized with threats and violence. Theres a history to this country, dulce (and everyone else), and i thought you would've been respectful of that. And actually for real, i'm glad there banning it in New york, very glad, because i want to live there in a nice condominium and shop in designer shops, and i would be so hurt if a store clerk, stylist, lobbyist, whoever, would call me out of my name like that, and i'm sure another sophisticated, distinguished coloured person as myself would feel the same. ------------------ Virgo Rising 8'57, Sagittarius Sun/4thH 3'26, Pisces Moon/6thH 8'22 "Our passions are not too strong, they are too weak. You can't say "That is gay" or something like that in california now.infringing on our freedom of speech. words are subjective, this is orwell's world rearing its ugly head. you can censor peoples words but not their feelings, which scares me, thought control next? IP: Logged |

Oh no, no, no, no Neptune. I don't think you're getting me. I am verrry aware of the history of this country....I did take Social Studies in school thank you very much. I am trying to say that its ridiculous to ban it when the word is still used but most times its by a person of color and not as it would've been used in times past. I already explained it here: quote: When someone says "My n___" they usually mean "my boy" or something like that.
The N word has evolved into something totally different for people of color from what it was in centuries past. And I for one am glad because to me its like a big middle finger to all those bigots who want to use it to keep us down. If you disagree that is fine but I'm telling you that the majority of people who use it in NY are of color themselves (and not offensively) so its kind of ridiculous to ban it now when they could've done so fifty years ago when it was used offensively. quote: true dulce, freedom of speech is fine, but theres a violent history in this country linked to the word "n*ggr", and out of respect, people generally shouldn't say it, and also think back to Michael Richards (Seinfeld - Kramer) tyrant using that word, its used quite unauspiciously, and characterized with threats and violence.
Yes, I am ****** with what that man said but I got my satisfaction with the fact that he's been crucified by public opinion and probably won't be able to make any comeback in Hollywood again. I'm trying to say that its our word, why should we be banned from using it??

I don't know I kind of disagree with it. I think it should be not allowed for politicians, teachers and people of such positions to use any racial slurs but as for people I don't think banning it is a good idea. Because in order to ban one, you will have to ban them all and then anyone who gets offended over something should get the right for it to be banned. Why this one word and not the others like Lioneye mentioned? IP: Logged |

true BUD,oh and thank you for clarifying dulce, and honestly, if people still use it their not going to be punished, so people probably aren't going to stop using it, BBC stated that it was just symbolic and not really an actual law. ------------------ Virgo Rising 8'57, Sagittarius Sun/4thH 3'26, Pisces Moon/6thH 8'22 "Our passions are not too strong, they are too weak.
