I mean this is the most diplomatic way, but those female celebrities are SO much more talented than the male ones. Lance Bass? I mean, come on.

I'm not insulting your selection, however, I'm pointing out a common cultural trend in America. Perhaps its simply my own personal problem that I don't really respect or idolize any of the males mentioned. There are very few positive gay male role models, why? Because they're mostly in the closet. Being a female and gay is much more acceptable than being a male and gay. Gay males threaten men, and gay women do not, its that simple.

How many popular big name male actors can you name that are gay? Anyone associated with theater knows how many actors are gay. I wonder how many famous hollywood actors are actually gay? Probably a lot.

BR: What qualities would a gay celebrity need to have to be considered a "positive role model"? I'm just wondering what in your opinion makes Ellen Degeneres a positive role model, but Elton John not one, for example.

I think Rock Hudson was a positive Hollywood role model.
He lived in dignity and died in dignity...

Plus, he was one heck of a good actor!

I'm a big fan of Ellen as well.

Here's an up and coming new gay arist.

Many of you will not like his lyrics.

Believe me though, if you were a gay man, you might be tired of America too. We're the most openly persecuted and scapegoated group in this country, one of the only where it is still basically publicly acceptable to poke fun at. The F word is much more acceptable and more used in common parlence than the N word. What's very strange about the prejudice against gays is that it makes no logical sense, the world is greatly overpopulated, its starting to buckle under the burdens we put on it, and homosexuality often will curb population growth. Then again, most people in America don't seem to care much about facts.

I like Ellen too. She's very funny.

Agreed, Juni Another one that was a good actor and perhaps good role model was Montgomery Clift.

Why is it, just curious, that anyone who posts something favorable about Gay people has to place a " disclaimer" on their posts stating they are not gay? Would not seem to matter to me what your sexual preference is so why do people have to clarify that they are not gay?

I'm still not clear on what constitutes a positive gay role model. Is it just that they're out? Should they be an activist for gay rights?

I'm just genuinely curious what you're referring to when you said you wish there were more positive gay male rolemodels.

Rock Hudson was great - but he wasn't out until the very end, right? So like in that instance, is he not a positive gay role model because he kept it hidden most of his life? (I realize why he did, Hollywood was a very different place back then, etc).

Stonewall Riot 6/28/1969
is one of the reasons why GLBT month is celebrated. What's ironic is that Judy Garland a famous gay icon passed away during this event.
Also, the Sun was Cancer that time. Since Cancer represents Motherhood. I've noticed most gays I've met are very close to their mothers!.

Rufus Wainright is one of my favorites! Actually his whole family is musically awesome. Have you ever heard his sister, father, and mother?
