I notice you listed cases where the defense was that filing income tax returns is voluntary.I didn't make that assertion...though it is voluntary and IRS booklets specifically state that the system is based on "self assessment and voluntary compliance". But, no one cam be compelled to be a witness against themselves. The filling out of a tax return and signing the return under penalty of perjury is a statement of a witness within the meaning of the 5th Amendment. I always file all federal documents I'm required to file and pay all the taxes I'm required to pay. IP: Logged |

Excellent. Better safe than sorry. I'm certain that last pdf I posted, http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-utl/friv_tax.pdf , will tell you the law regarding payment of income taxes as well as what their definition of income is. I haven't checked it myself yet, but I'm sure it's in there. IP: Logged |

I think if you make 4500 or less per year. You are not required to file and IRS won't be after you. Not sure. I heard the government has appointed private tax collection firms, and so far they collected 46 million as back taxes. They must be making some commission off that. There are upto billion in tax defaults the government plans to collect this way.
