Iran's president on Wednesday warned the West to expect a "bloody nose" over mounting pressure on Iran to halt its sensitive uranium enrichment activities, state television reported.

The five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany will meet on April 16 in Shanghai to discuss whether to sweeten incentives they had offered Iran in 2006 to curb its nuclear program.

In a televised address from the northeastern city of Mashhad, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad insisted Iran would never abandon its atomic work, which the West fears is a cover to build nuclear bombs. Iran says its work is to produce energy.

"The Iranian nation will bloody the enemy's (the West's) nose if they want to violate an iota of our rights (to nuclear technology)," he said without elaborating.

The Security Council has imposed three rounds of sanctions on Iran for refusing council's demand to suspend its uranium enrichment activities, which can be used to make fuel for power plants or atomic bombs, if refined much further.

Iran, which says it wants nuclear technology to generate electricity, has so far ruled out halting or limiting its nuclear work in exchange for trade and other incentives, and says it will only negotiate with the U.N. nuclear watchdog.

"We are standing firm and the West's misbehavior towards Iran, will encourage the nation to capture higher summits," the president said to chants of "Death to America" by the crowd.

"The nation will slap you in the mouth."

Accelerating activity that could give Tehran the means to make atom bombs in the future if it wants to, Iran said on Tuesday it had begun installing 6,000 new centrifuges at its Natanz uranium enrichment plant and said it had tested a "new generation" of centrifuges.

Iran, the world's fourth largest oil exporter, launched 3,000 centrifuges, a basis for industrial scale enrichment, in Natanz. But they are a 1970s-vintage design, prone to breakdown.

"ERA OF OPPRESSION"

Washington said Tehran's move showed its intention to ignore Security Council demands to halt sensitive nuclear work and France suggested major powers may have to toughen sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said incentives offered to Iran in 2006 if it halted uranium enrichment, including civil nuclear cooperation, had been "very generous."

But Russia, which is building Iran's first nuclear power plant, said "new positive proposals" should be put to Iran.

The United States has not ruled out military action to stop Iran's nuclear activities and Israel has repeatedly urged the international community to stop Tehran's atomic work.

Ahmadinejad said imposing sanctions on Iran would have no results for the West.

"It will not weaken our nation's will ... the era of oppression is finished," Ahmadinejad said.

I guess they are following Jwhop's policy.

>>>>Carry a big stick and beat the hell out of anyone who attacks you.

Why must nations attack a peaceful program?
We all know that America was an idiot to not have the vision to pursue nuclear power for civil use. It is much greener than coal. Its all due to its good for nothing congress.

Anyhow the world must prove that irans programs are not peaceful before casting its stones. And please countries who built smoking guns around iraq, go to the back of the line. We are tired of your preaching.

And you should be shown the door for inflammatory speeches.

No wait I am a "classical" liberal. Talk your non-sense. No one will listen to you.

Perhaps you are unfamilar with the English language Mannu. Or, perhaps your eyesight is too poor to have noticed the question mark at the end of my sentence.

Now Mannu, how can a question be inflammatory?

Oh dear Mannu, have you picked up the unsavory habit of speaking for other people too?

I guess your habit is getting rubbed off on people like me

And I did not see that question at the end.
Perhaps, you edited it later on.

Actually thats Teddy Roosevelt's policy...Tread softly and carry a big stick... But I will give tons of credit to Jwhop for upholding it...that is a pretty clever way...

Yea....Ukraine tried that...worked wonders...u know with the whole reactor exploding and all, and polluting the environment in ways that cars couldn't manage in 100s of years...yay nuclear power...

quote:

Gosh...how many times does Ahmadinejad need to say what he says for people to believe it is not peaceful...the man is deranged... though I strongly oppose bombing Iran for now...at this point I am against bombing Iran but I am also against Iran's nuclear expansion..

quote:
Bomb all war mongering nations.

Wouldn't bombing a warmongering nation make the bomber also war mongering and thus deserving of being bombed? its a paradox you see...

Yeah BUD, Ahmadinernut and the Iranian Mullahs are clearly insane and that's the most important reason they must never be permitted to develop a nuclear weapon.

It's a totally asinine statement that the world be "required" to "prove" Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons.

Iran has the opportunity to open up their nuclear facilities for a thorough inspection...and that issue would disappear.
They are enriching Uranium or attempting to enrich Uranium beyond the requirements of fuel for nuclear energy.

Precisly...

Its also highly naive to assume that a developing nation wishing to explore nuclear power would only use it for peaceful purposes...come on...any nation with the capability to have a nuclear weapon that has at least some semblance of enemies will choose to have those weapons...its just basic logic...so yes Iran is making nuclear weapons...they shouldn't and I hate that they do...though I still don't think we should go to war with them over it...

Sorry to say BUD but its not basic logic. Though yes the military build-up in the region would indicate a massive defense station, saying that mass scale unranium enrichment for weapons purposes is nothing more then a hypothesis. They have enough capital to make the required nuclear reactors for power though the only reason why one would say that their program could lead to nuclear weapon's program is the fact that they have an ample supply of oil yet do not use it for powering up their plants.

Would that mean that their programs are leading towards weapons building? A possibility but not an affirmation and to say otherwise is logically incorrect; Its not an absolution, its an assumption.

Iran would likely comply if international pressure and UN legilature continues on its course. If they don't then there are always tougher sanctions and well... we all know how theat ended up hurting Iraq.

BUD , I don't answer cyclic questions.

Yeah great democrat err socialist party people of the old America.

So why not applaud Obama's policy of bombing Pakistan along the same lines?
Don't give me that crap they are our friends etc. Right wingers head is too much buried in their ass. (Bush gave carrots to Pakistan to get Osama...Obama wants to play with the stick now. )

>>>>Yea....Ukraine tried that...worked wonders...u know with the whole reactor exploding and all, and polluting the environment in ways that cars couldn't manage in 100s of years...yay nuclear power...

Well thats how we get better don't we? By learning from our mistakes.
Besides I heard the nuclear technology has gotten better with less dangerous by products and environmental friendly.
Research France for example.

Yes Nuclear technology has gone way better over the years and experimental Fusion reactors have experimentally proven to generate 4 times more power then fission reactors. Though there are numerous problems with containing fusion based reaction activity including high tempratures, core clusturing problems, etc.

Now lets not all play with sematics here about warmongering nations. In Iran's case, Military action should be well played by UN's book this time (don't start with me on this Jwhop. We all know what happened when people jumped the gun on the decision to go to Iraq.) No military action unless sanctioned by the UN and agreed upon by the security council.

The UN can stuff Iran up it's butt Xodian. If the UN were not a bunch of worthless, brain dead moron incompetent chair warmers, the problem of Iran's quest for nuclear weapons would already have been ended.

The minute it's determined Iran IS assembling a nuclear weapon, the US and Israel should bomb their nuclear facilities, bomb their command and control centers, sink all their military vessels, blow their military aircraft out of the sky or blow them up on the ground and bomb every munitions storage facility and munitions production factory in Iran...for starters.

Don't bring up Jimmy (the Teeth) Carter to me Xodian. He should have been impeached for withdrawing US support for the Shah of Iran and ushering in the most radical Islamic fundamentalists in the world. In my opinion Carter's passport should be revoked and he should be restricted to the United States...unless he would like to renounce his US citizenship, leave and never come back to America.

And what do you recommend Jwhop? Go to war with an already inflated budget, over possibility of a more stringent fight with a country who definately has more viable and effective defenses? Lets not even compare the senerios with Iraq to Iran. Iraq was a walk in the park; The regime had nothing in terms of a viable defense and plausible baseline station of a counterattack. Iran is a whole new ballgame and you wanna tie the U.S. into another prolonged conflict? Use your head.

The "quest" is still a hypothesis and will be kept as such UNTIL the resolution for stronger sanctions can be passed and an agreed upon contersrike is sanctioned. To do so otherwise would be going against UN protocal and would categorize the U.S. in the same category as Iran on being a rouge nation. Be rational will ya?

If Iran is attacked, its possible that Russia could jump in to defend and WWIII could start.

Xodian , the country is based on the philosophy of not giving the government too much power. Americans will loose their individual freedom. So giving power to UN is a big no in this country. And I agree, UN is corrupted just as any other large organization.

I do not agree with Obama 100 percent either. I believe in educating the people than bombing them. I am glad I don't have to make those decisions that the politicians do.

You should try using your brain Xodian. Iran with nuclear weapons is a nightmare for the whole world. If the UN won't stop them..and this bunch of shiitforbrains won't stop Iran then it will fall to the US and probably Israel to do so.

Your nonsense that Iran is better prepared to defend itself against US airstrikes by F-117s and B-2 bombers is a flight into fantasyland.

Russia will not, repeat, will not defend Iran against air strikes. Perhaps against a land invasion but even that's doubtful. Anyone who thinks Russia wants to go to war with the United States over Iran has nothing but rocks between their ears.

The UN sets limitations on how much they can impede upon another nation's soverignty Mannu. There are set guidelines on what actions can define a nation under the "rouge nation" category. The soverignthy of individual nations is safe. What the UN tries to do is to prevent long term conflicts by trying to use excessive force. Obviously there will be times where excessive force will be called upon for use and thus with an agreed upon vote with all nations, there will be a set ideal that the conflict in question is not the work of just one individual nation who is trying to gain the upper hand in its own benifit.

Offcourse, I am not gonna deny the UN have had its fair share of corruption scandles and bungled up important decisions like any other orginization but I rather have a united front for key important global decisions.

Jwhop... B-2s and F-117s or not, the Iranian Airspace is guarded by more viable fighters including quite a few of the U.S's own F-14s which are well capable of BVR combat. Not the mention they have the modified s-300 SAMs and a more orginized and well equipped army.

The UN obviously has made headway in its decisions and France is already calling upon for tougher sanctions.

Not to mention Ahmerjad isn't exactly liked by his people. Given enough time, he will most likely be removed from power. The only reason why people seem to back the guy up is because they have this ellusive fear that their soverignty is under risk and that their denial to Nuclear Power seems prodominant. Its the only tune Ahmadinejad is singing and is trying to convince the people likewise. Unfortunately for him, most people aren't buying it.

So let this one go with the UN way.

America has a tough job to convince to the world to strike Iran. The world is already weary with Iraq war. The world will perceive their attacking Iran as sucking up to Israel.

America also bullied India in the past to stop all nuclear experiments. And they still went ahead with their research explosions. I think Iran will someday do the same.

Xodian,

Yes UN's existence is not totally not required. On any given time the consciousness of all people in the country matters. If people in their countries pressurize government to retaliate against American strikes, then even UN cannot do anything. UN acst as traffic policemen. Its better to have some regulation than no regulation at all. Thats why even America recognizes UN and Rockfeller gave prime property to UN in new york

I think we must lift all poor nations of the world and make them civil first.

The pie is big enough in this world and just because America eats a larger slice of the pie does not mean the rest of the world should suffer. They can create their own pie (err wealth) as India and China has shown LOL
